How come when I fix placeholder transactions cash doesn't update?

I've recently entered a few Placeholder transactions with all the required information. However I am now seeing that new transactions for that Security have a Cash Amt of "NA" and Cash Balance is not being updated. I've tried deleting the transaction and reentering it manually, but that hasn't fixed the issue. Any advice would be appreciated.

Those placeholders prevent Cash from being updated. The best course of action is to enter the actual transactions, rather than Placeholders … even if you need to combine multiple transactions into a single txn.

In order to enter or correct any transactions prior to the Placeholder that affect the cash balance, you must first delete the Placeholder.

This will allow transactions for the Placeholder security prior to the Placeholder date to affect the cash balance.

Yes, I have learned that (ie that it;s best to directly enter the transaction vs correcting a Placeholder). My question is how do I get future transaction to update Cash now that I've entered a Placeholder. I've tried deleting the Placeholder transaction and others for the specific Security related to Placeholder, then manually re-entering the transaction but still the Cash Balance is not updating. What am I missing?

@SLewis-Atl - Right click on the transaction you entered and then click on Edit. You should get a popup that looks something like this example.

If the transaction is a BUY, then make sure "From this account's cash account" is selected.

If the transaction is a SELL, then make sure "To this account's cash balance" is selected.

It the transaction is a ReinvDiv or ReinvInt, then there will be no cash balance impact because the cash from the Dividend or Interest received pays directly for the Reinvestment.

If this is not causing the issue for you, would you be able to take a snap shot of the transaction Edit popup and, after hiding any personally identifiable or confidential information, post it in your reply so we can get a better idea of what the issue might be?

If there is a Placeholder for the affected security with a date later than the date of the transaction you are trying to enter, the From or To this account's cash balance will be grayed out.

If there are multiple Placeholders, it is easiest to note the share balance for the latest-dated Placeholder (it might be in the future) and work backwards in time.

If you have entered transactions while there is a later Placeholder, you will see a Cash Balance adjustment just before each transaction you tried to enter. After you have deleted the Placeholder, you can edit the problem transaction and delete the Cash Balance adjustment.
