Resizing columns in register

Using Quicken, I would like to have more space for memos. However, it seems the only way to achieve that is by expanding the payee, also expands the category to an unnecessary extent. Is there a way to expand the columns to accommodate what would be beneficial for my needs?

I am a Windows 11 Home user, My Quicken is Quicken Classic Premier release R60.20

    Hello @Jackson100,

What exactly is occurring? Are you unable to resize the memo field?

    Let me know!

@Quicken Jasmine what @Jackson100 is referring to is the fact that if you are in two-line mode the memo is a "sub column" under the payee, so the only way the user has to control the size of one of these "sub columns" (Memo/Category/Tag) is to change the size of the Payee column or by removing/adding one of the "sub columns". Quicken gives equal spacing for each of the "sub columns" under the payee column.

I doubt this will ever be changed it has been requested a few times in the past, and I have a feeling it is a limitation of the GUI library, but I don't know that for sure.

Note if you are in one-line mode you can size all the columns individually.

I see, I did not realize that @Jackson100 was in two-line mode. I had attempted to replicate using my personal file in one-line mode. Thank you for clarifying!

If you would both please allow me some time to dig deeper and investigate this situation a bit further!

    Thanks!

Thanks to all who responded. I'm going to go to one line and see how that works for me as Jasmine continues to look into the matter.

Special thanks to Chris who saved me from attempting to explain further what I was hoping to find.

BTW, are you using the Tags column in your registers?
Or are you displaying the Amount column together with the Payment and Deposit columns?

You can reclaim some space in your registers if you remove unused columns like Tags from the register views.
Or decide which of Amount or Payment and Deposit to use. You don't need all three of them. Remove either Amount only or both Deposit and Payment.

Note that if you do use only the Amount field, we recently found a bug in Quicken if this option is turned on:

Edit → Preferences → Setup → Use New Subscriber settings for new files and accounts

    Make sure it is off.

Here is the thread that explains that bug:

There is a very old Idea regarding column resizing of the 2nd header line.

Quicken user since version 2 for DOS, as of 2025 using QWin Premier (US) on Win10 Pro & Win11 Pro on 2 PCs.
