I see this is an issue from two years ago but it has effectively bit me today. I am missing two months of transactions from a Bank of America credit card. So I downloaded the appropriate months in QFX format and attempted to Import them into the existing Quicken account. No luck. I get the error you see in the title. Clicking OK on the error box gives me this screen.

Hello @Tominator,
Since this issue involves a QFX file, it indicates a problem with the file itself. Because financial institutions create and provide these files, you will need to contact your financial institution directly for resolution.
As Quicken does not generate or modify QFX files, we are unable to fix this issue on our end. Only the financial institution that provides the file can address the problem.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and thank you for your understanding!

Will it import into a new account versus an existing account?
If so, do that and then move the transactions from the new account to existing account and delete the now empty new account.

Yes it will which is what I ended up doing for about 3 months worth of missing data. But it was a royal PITA.
For some reason, Quicken seems spotty on updating the BofA VISA if I don't update for a few months. I'm not sure what type of data the data download might contain that would stop it from being able to link to the existing account on import, yet, Quicken still processes new transactions for the original account via Express Web Connect+ successfully.

See my reply to Splasher. It's Quicken that's barfing on the downloaded file when I attempt to Link it to an existing account. It has no trouble creating an entirely new account with it however. Maybe it doesn't like the name of the old account or something?
