Can 2 Factor Authentication be setup for Quicken for Windows?

Can 2 Factor Authentication be setup for Quicken for Windows?

I am looking for 2FA for my local Quicken file, not my individual financial institutions.

I believe I need to be signed into my Quicken account for Quicken to operate on my laptop so I assume this might be 2FA for my Quicken account?

Thanks

    Hello @sjmsing,

Thanks for reaching out with this question!

Quicken does offer a data file password option to help protect access to your local Quicken file. You can view how to add a data file password in this Support Article. However, at this time, Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is not available for accessing your local Quicken file itself. The Quicken application does require you to be signed into your Quicken account for certain features, but this is separate from 2FA protection on your local data file.

If you'd like to see 2FA implemented for Quicken for Windows, we encourage you to submit an Idea post in the Community. This will allow other users to vote on the suggestion and help Quicken's development team prioritize new security features.

I use an alternative to 2FA for a Quicken Desktop file. It is stored on an encrypted drive which requires 2FA to access the drive. The access must be turned on before you launch QDT, or the file will appear to have been deleted.

@Quicken Jasmine Thanks for the response. I do have a password for the file and vault. I will submit an Idea Post.

If you're concerned with unauthorized access to your Quicken data on your laptop, how do you protect the laptop itself from unauthorized access while it's up and running and you have stepped away, leaving it wide open?
Once you have started Quicken and entered all your passwords (or the 2FA code), the Quicken program does not know or care who is sitting at your laptop, working on it while you're not looking.

So, if you don't want anybody from accessing your Quicken data, you need to be sure to password - protect your laptop using the Windows Password or PIN. Lock your laptop when you step away.
If you routinely allow others to use other applications on your laptop, set up additional Windows user IDs and passwords ("regular" IDs without administrator privileges) for the other user(s) and make them use their own IDs. Make sure they don't know your Windows password/PIN.
