2oth Century Quicken

Please forgive me if I mess up the dates below somewhat. I'm old and the stuff I am talking about happened a very long time ago. 😉 If there is a better place to post this, please let me know.

I began using Quicken DOS, I believe, in the late 1980s. I was also very involved in CompuServe, one of the first online messaging boards. I had found some email addresses for some of Intuit's executives and began harassing them to put their support online and specifically on CompuServe. I guess they got tired of my emails so when they did decide to go on CompuServe they asked me to be their Forum Leader (basically the top volunteer on the forum). I did that for quite a few years, as I recall.

On July 22, 1994 USA Today published an article about Quicken on the front page of their Money section. Along with the article was a photo of a computer screen with Quicken on it, surrounded by me and my family. And now we finally get to the purpose of this too long post.

I have a paper copy of that day's paper, but I would really like to find an online version. So far I've been unable to find it, either here or on USA Today's website. Does anyone know of someone I could contact to see if an electronic version of this article exists? I'd appreciate any suggestions or help you can provide.

TIA.

If you want a digital replica of the paper, you can take your copy to a print shop and they should be able to scan it for you.

Also, a sizable number of computer printer these days are "multi-function", meaning that they also can copy and scan. Including a scan to PDF, which could be posted online.

You might ask around among people your know, or local institutions, to see if they have one. They're quite common.

I would also point out that Intuit sold Quicken many years ago, the new company is called Quicken Inc.

Like the others I think your best bet would be have someone scan the copy you have and maybe even convert the text from an image to actual text.

Does the screenshot below look like it was part of that article?

I found this by doing a free search on www.newspapers.com. I have not used this website in the past, so I can't speak to its legitimacy / safety. They offer a 1-week free trial, but if you don't cancel in time it's something like $70 for the next 6-months.

My understanding is that many local libraries can offer you access to newspapers.com or similar search engine for free.

The suggestion to use that search site came from a chatgpt session.

    Hope this helps!

Actually, I'll bet this is the one you are looking for:

I can only get snippets because I don't have a paid account.

Check with your local library — they can probably pull it up at no cost.
