R64.35 Release Notes and Experiences
Hi folks,
Like many of you, I fired up Quicken to find that there is a new version available for download. I'm a little skittish, so I always look at the release notes before I update. To my surprise, the release notes simply read:
FIXED: A few internal bugs.
I don't know about the rest of you, but that's totally unacceptable given the recent horrible release quality on the R64.xx line.
Has anyone tried this update yet? If so, how did it go?
Thanks,

I agree that the Release Notes are inadequate.
In particular, it would be nice if the Release notes said which if any of the ongoing Fidelity issues have been addressed in this release.

I have installed it. I see no changes, which is no surprise given that for the features I'm using they are working.
Well, except for the fact that my Merrill Lynch 401K account update is throwing errors, but it was doing that before the update and I'm sure the problem is at Merrill Lynch.

I think that the recent release fixed an issue I was having with auto-filling splits. Which is nice. But my major problems remain. I have to fix my paychecks every time I sync or validate the data file, then fix my tax planning tool because suddenly the tax calculations are inaccurate. I haven't seen much progress in the way of fixing all the other features that don't work, such as tons of problems with investments. I'm not buying another renewal this year. My current subscription expires in October of 2026. Quicken has til then to power through some of these very annoying bugs, and if I don't see some quality improvement, I'm jumping. I think that's more than reasonable. Putting Quicken on a 1-year notice. 😁

I was disappointed to NOT see some fixes for the Billers Tab fiasco. (Bills not updating, can't link online bills to reminders without causing more problem, Bills advancing to wrong month with wrong amounts, etc..
Otherwise, I have no major issues for the way I use Quicken but for me the Biller switchover has been very bad.

One thing that R64.35 on Windows 11 seems to have broken is the Contact Info link under Tools→Online Center. For all of my accounts, except for Vanguard, that link is greyed out. It was not this way on R64.30.
FWIW, Vanguard still uses Direct Connect.

Hi @recursor1,
What is the problem you were having with auto-filling splits that was fixed? I am seeing categories and amounts get scrambled in my Social Security deposits, which have up to a five-way split.

I agree with the comments regarding non-descriptive notes on releases. I updated to R64.35 and have seen no change so far. However, the platform continues to crash/lock up with the hourglass swirling. It seems that I have to end the task every time I login for one reason or another. I've run validate and repair multiple times to no avail. Quicken has been my go-to financial software for probably 30 years, and it has been more unstable in the past few months than I ever remember it being.

I upload using "Report a Problem Report" almost every time I have an issue now. I have been doing this for a few months and hope everyone else will be doing the same for what it's worth. I rarely ever made submissions in the past.

FIXED: A few internal bugs.
Apologies for the vague release note. These truly were a few esoteric, internal issues that would not impact the user experience. Actual example "Update logging in parse commit function and do not update database when processing record update."
That said. We could have done better. These "internal bugs" were in service of better diagnosing customer issues. A better release note may have been:
Added: Improved internal system logging to better understand customer data issues
Thanks for the feedback.

Instead of fixing internal issues that customers don't typically see, how about fixing issues that customers see and complain about?

By autofilling I mean when you have memorized payees with splits, and you click on one of the splits in the dropdown, it only fills in like the top category of that split. Nothing to do with what you are seeing, @Carl Davidson . I don't know how you are handling social security deposits, but if you are using Quicken's paycheck feature for them, that might be way. Paychecks get bugged on sync. It's been that way for a long time. I once did a clean new file, imported everything older, and it still resulted in issues. It's possible that the tax-assigned categories themselves are bugged. That might be what you are seeing.

I highly doubt that will make a difference. But I promise you I will get around to doing it for every single problem I've seen lately.

Ahh in that case my autofill problem must have been solved when I reset my Quicken data in the cloud. I just did it because I saw that advice online somewhere.

Hi everyone,
I write the release notes 99% of the time. In this case, I did not, but when this sort of note appears, it truly is not something that impacts customer experience in a direct way. This one does have the indirect benefit of helping us better track issues.
As Jeff pointed out, we can be clearer, even with these fixes.
A better note would have been Jeff's suggestion:
Improved internal system logging to better understand customer data issues
I will strive to improve clarity on this in future release notes. Be assured that when a fix addresses a customer issue, I work to be specific about the issue it fixes.I write help content for Quicken (Windows/Mac/Web/Mobile)

Thank you for the clarification @Quicken John H and @Quicken Jeff . Although users prefer to see more fixes, your transparency is appreciated.

Ditto from me, the OP. Update quality has been pretty shaky lately, so without enough detail it's hard to know whether to take an update or not. Thanks much.

I'm not using the paycheck feature for SS deposits. I have memorized an income transaction that then splits the deposit into the various tax categories. Lately the split categories have been shifting around while the memo and amount are staying on the appropriate line in the split dialog. It's just weird.

@Carl Davidson , ohh it's just the memorized category, got it. Yeah, I don't do anything quite like that so I wouldn't know. But it's probably related to the issue I'm having for sure. I read on some random thread that if you reset your cloud data, it potentially fixes issues with autofilling. And since we just got confirmation that the fixes made had nothing to do with autofills, I'd say resetting my cloud data worked for me. Maybe give it a shot.

Hi @Quicken John H , thank you for clarifying. I do wonder though many have been reporting unstable software. In my case, it's one step update, it's freezing, crashing, or taking a really long time. But most frustrating it's doing something, deleting, adding, transferring or otherwise messing with the transaction, so that my balances are completely off. It's so bad I can't use it at all and need to go to a backup and start over because I can't figure out what it messed with. At this point I can't use your software or have to figure out to manually update the accounts. Please advise. No I don't have fidelity and yes I did update to 64.35.

I'm not using cloud data or the mobile apps. For now, I've put comments in the memo fields that tell me what category each line should be and I reset it by hand. There are only two transactions per month. Bigger fish to fry right now.

@Carl Davidson , if you have the latest version, you are using the cloud data. Whether you like it or not.

That being said, I think reminders in Quicken are certainly broken. I think it's a combination of reminders and sync that are the biggest problems Quicken has right now. You hear me, @Quicken John H , @Quicken Jeff , you fix paychecks and reminders and all the problems surrounding them, I'd be eternally grateful and I'd have far less to complain about. I just submitted a report today with a thorough description of my existing paycheck issues complete with a screenshot. Please review.

Hi everyone —
Thank you for your detailed feedback and discussions around the Quicken Classic for Windows R64.35 release notes. We appreciate the time you’ve taken to share your thoughts and experiences.
We’ve seen the reports from recursor1 regarding various issues — thank you for bringing these to light. We definitely want to dig into those and help get to the bottom of them.
At this stage, to keep things organized and allow our team to properly investigate, could I please ask you (and anyone else encountering issues) to start a new separate discussion thread in the Community specifying the exact issue you’re seeing? That way, we can troubleshoot and follow up directly.
Thanks again for your patience and for helping us improve the product. Looking forward to seeing your posts in the new topic so we can move this forward together.
Quicken Alyssa
