Quicken Classic Deluxe - 1 Year Subscription discounts or lack thereof

Looks like the Quicken folk have wised up to losing revenue by the subscription key cards being available at places like NewEgg. This one in the subject is no longer available. The only ones available are for new subscribers only.

Anyone seen this product anywhere else or have Quicken killed them all?

I didn't search too much but I did notice a Best Buy offer for what appears to be not for new subscribers only at $69.88. That a pretty small discount but it is about 11% less than the Quicken.com price.: https://www.bestbuy.com/product/quicken-classic-deluxe-1-year-subscription-mac-os-windows-android-apple-ios/J39F7226PZ/sku/6568556?utm_source=feed

Most of the adds I saw, though, were for new subscribers which makes me wonder if the retail offerings situation might be changing some.

The pricing is very "seasonal" not year-round. You have to catch it just at the right time.

I don't know of much one can do proactively to be notified of when there are retailer specials. On some retail websites one can set up account preferences to be notified of when specific items come up for sale. This is sometimes done by entering the item desired into a "Wish List".

I think the best thing to do is to:

    • Monitor this Community because when there are retail specials going on there will often be some posts made about it to inform other users.
    • Periodically do a web search for "buy Quicken Deluxe" (or whatever edition is desired) and see what pops up in the search results.

And then be prepared to place an order for it whenever it comes up, even if it is 11-17 months prior to your subscription expiring. The expiration date of the Activation Code is 12 months after purchase and the subscription can be extended up to 6 months prior to the subscription expiration date. That's an 18 months window that can be taken advantage of proactively. (I mentioned 11-17 months because that gives a 1 month safety margin so the activation code is not allowed to expire before using it.)

You've got to have a lot of faith that the seller on eBay has never used the activation code. I'd rather purchase from a known retailer.

I'm gonna have to walk back that comment. The only ones I've found on eBay appear to be just as expensive as direct with Quicken.

Also, PayPal is really good about siding with the buyer in a case of shenanigans.

One pattern that does seem to come each year is around Black Friday sales.

Also I will point out “new user” is basically “new Quicken Id”. If ones Quicken Id isn’t tied to things like backup or biller services and you don’t mind resetting up your online services you can just create a new Quicken Id and take advantage of the new user specials.

One word of caution, since this isn’t an extension of your subscription you would want to activate it as close to the expiration of the old one. This isn’t hard to do if you are getting this from a retailer and so you get an activation code, but if you buy directly from Quicken.com, that method activates immediately.

Quicken converted everyone to subscription in summer - July, I think - so the price is high in July, as well as April, May, and June, because that's when most people renew. Check prices for sales during the other months on a regular basis and you'll find the best deals. Checking my records, I found it for $41.93 (no tax (they messed up!), free shipping) at Best Buy.com on 06 Jan 25, plus BB gave me a coupon for $5 off regular merch (so I actually paid only $36.93). The sales are basically flash sales, often good only for a few days or one week, so you have to be checking often.

It seems there are fewer deals than last year at this time ($45@eBay last Oct). I've been looking for about a month on and off. Nothing at Newegg. Slim pickings at eBay.

Amazon has a 1 year Quicken Deluxe subscription Key Card for 10% off at the moment- 10/31/2025

This morning I visited Quicken dot com and a flash screen on the home screen said up to 23% off classic deluxe with a banner on the top of page saying Black Friday Give your Finances a Holiday Bonus!

When I clicked on a purchase link price was $6.49/mo (77 and change billed annually) but on that page were 2 "new" products, quicken personal/quicken business and personal for 2.99 and 3.99 on sale.

I promptly got on with support to find out what gives… him'd and haw'd for a minute then offered me 30% off to renew today. Also told me those products were mobile only… I said meaning just Simplifi? Answered in the affirmative.

My question is how good are their Black Friday discounts on quicken dot com? Better than the 30% and worth waiting for? I DONT want mobile only software from them… but like the price… 36 or 48 a year.

Interesting… I have a conversation saved where-in Jorge offered me 30% off if I renewed with him… with a price quote of $58.12 after taxes. I wonder now… can that rep even do renewals by chat?

I think all the discounts you see when you visit quicken.com are ONLY for new subscribers; I don't think they discount renewals at all.

That said, a number of people have documented that they received a discounted renewal from Quicken Support reps (phone or chat). It can't hurt to contact Support and tell them you're not sure you'll renew your subscription at the current higher price, and ask if there's any discount they can offer you for renewing; worst case scenario, they say no and you've wasted a few minutes.

I'm on chat with them now. They offered 30% if I purchased the online backup service, which I did not want. They then offered a 10% discount for the Quicken subscription only. After asking if I could have the 30% discount for Quicken only, they then offered 20%, which I accepted.

I ran across this via another website, my question is - assuming the box doesn't say new subscribers only - how would I add this to my account (yes, essentially a new user after not using for nearly 20 yrs) to extend my subscription?

@Radiohawk Run Quicken and from the main menu select "Enter Activation Code". Enter the code that you received after purchasing the renewal - it may be shipped to you in a box or you may receive it via email. That Staples link specifically says "Box with Key Code", so you'd have to wait for the box to arrive.

The ad said not available for shipping, pick up in store. I went to my local store after a call to the mgr to confirm in stock and available (1 copy left of each, deluxe and premier) for existing users. I dbl checked the box and insert and found no language about new users only. Purchased at the store and am about to try it out. Will update later today.

Note that Walmart has the "existing user and new user" versions. Go to Walmart.com and search for Quicken.

Ironically the "new user" Starter edition is priced at more than for the Deluxe edition.

    Deluxe: $41.99

    Premier: $56.99

    Business and personal: $77.99
