Quicken for Mac, Voiding a Transaction

Has there been any movement on creating a function that would allow the voiding of a transaction in the Mac environment. I need an audit trail and deleting the transaction is not an option?

You shouldn't be deleting the transaction.

The only thing the "void function" does in Quicken Windows is put Void*** in front of the payee's name and zero the amount. And in fact, one could argue that is the wrong thing to do, it should also take the amount and put it in the memo so that you know what the original value was.

All of this is very simple to do manually, and I hope that people aren't constantly voiding transactions, so in my opinion it is one of the "least needed features".

    Hello @TereM,

    Thanks for reaching out!

At this time, Quicken for Mac does not offer a built-in “Void Transaction” feature.

However, we do have this active Idea post that is currently marked Under Consideration. I encourage you to add your vote and leave a comment explaining how a void function and audit trail would benefit your workflow.

Our Product and Development teams review Idea posts to gauge user demand and prioritize potential enhancements, so the more engagement an idea receives, the more visibility it gets during planning discussions.

    Thank you!

I can't speak to if/when the developers might add a void procedure, but it's pretty easy to do it manually and maintain a proper audit trail if you do it the right way:

Edit the transaction to be voided and…

    • In the memo field, enter "VOID:" and the original amount, and optionally a reason for the void (e.g. "check never received" or "wrote check for wrong amount").
    • Change the Amount to zero.
    • Press Return to save the transaction.

That's it. It takes just a few seconds.

On your next reconciliation, check off this zero dollar transaction as reconciled, so it will be gone from your unreconciled items, and you'll be able to determine from there reconciliation history which month you actually voided it.
