Check for Updates Doesn't Display the Latest Mondo Patch
.
I got a direct link some time ago from someone named Sherlock on the Quicken community site when I asked about getting 'Unexpected Error' messages over and over again. He gave me a link to a Mondo patch, and once I installed that, I never had anymore problems. Until now.
I bought a refurbished PC that had Win10 already loaded on it, so we just installed the Quicken 14 Deluxe directly on the computer. It seemed to work okay until I started getting the deadly 'Unexpected Error' message. I completely forgot that years ago I needed the Mondo patch (and of course that wasn't on the Quicken 14 disc I had).
I have been using Quicken since 1995, so I have a ton of data. When Intuit decided to turn this into a subscription-based serviced, I looked for the last version of Quicken that I could use without a subscription and where I could keep my data locally on my computer. It looked like Quicken 14 was the last version that I didn't have to pay for and my data wasn't stored in the cloud. I actually purchased a physical disc for Quicken 14 Deluxe and everything was working fine for a very long time.
Once I started getting the 'unexpected error' message (which also locked up my computer), one of your users asked me if I had installed the Mondo patch. I didn't know anything about it, so he was kind enough to send me a direct link where I could download and install the patch. I only use Quicken to enter transactions for Checking, Savings, and Credit Cards. I am not connected to any bank to download anything. I enter all transactions manually, and back up the data file consistently on a USB drive and it's worked great, until loading the physical disc version on the new PC (without the Mondo patch). I haven't been able to consistently enter transactions or reconcile accounts because of these deadly error messages. Someone on eBay claimed to have a USB drive for Quicken 14 (although it was the Home and Office version rather than the Quicken Deluxe 14, but I didn't think that would be a problem), and she told me that i would have the Mondo patch on it and it would work on anything from Win 7 (which is what i had been running before upgrading to Win10) to Win11.
Now it seems to be getting worse. I get various numbered 'unexpected errors' when I try to use Bill and Income Reminders. They're all there, but when I try to enter one of them or skip one, the error message pops up and I can't exit Quicken except by going to the bottom on the window and closing both the error message and a blank page that identifies as Quicken. Once I close those two things, Quicken will finally shut down. Unfortunately, the minute I try to re-open it, another error message appears and I can't even open it. The only way we've found to get it to open is to remove Quicken from the computer and re-load the Quicken 14 USB I purchased. And even though I was constantly baking up data constantly - including from a few hours earlier, once we re-load Quicken - and use the most recent backup, I've lost over 2 months worth of entries - again. I don't know what to do at this point. Losing the ability to access data from every year since 1995 is making me sick, but if I can't continue to use Quicken to manually enter transactions and reconcile accounts, I don't know what I'm going to do. I love Quicken because it basically does what I want because I don't need all the other features. It basically acts (for me) like an electronic check register along with the ability to enter credit card transactions, electronic deposits and payments - and reconcile everything when I get bank and credit card statements.
Can anyone provide me with a link to the Mondo patch that will fix Quicken 14 Deluxe? I'm desperate and I have no idea where (or how) to find it so I can re-install it on my computer.
I'd be very grateful for anyone who can help me with this. I've been trying to figure this out for over a month. And along with re-entering data over and over again (only to have it disappear) and not being able to reconcile anything or use Bill and Income reminders, it also seems to crash when I try to enter 'splits' on transactions.
I'm pretty desperate right now, so any help would be really appreciated.
Hello @lulusandy,
Thank you for reaching out! Since Quicken 2014 is no longer supported, I'm not able to help troubleshoot, but I can share the link to your previous discussion:
Unfortunately, the site you were initially able to download the patch from isn't available anymore. Hopefully someone on the Community will know another place where you can find it.
I hope this helps!
Thanks for sharing the link to my previous discussion. There are several users who supposedly have links to 2014 patches, but every one I click on give me the old '404' message.
Since the link I got previously (and worked like a champ), I'm wondering if there's anyone out there who can give me a link to a (working) patch that I can actually access, I would be eternally grateful.
The website that had all the patch releases on it was reported to have copy right violations or such stuff and was placed on a blacklist (in other words, banned, all you get is a 404 error). It is a shame that it happened, but those are the facts. Intuit (before becoming just Quicken) used to provide those patch releases on their website, but they decided to not support their users of older versions of Quicken.
You got your information wrong about 2014. Quicken 2014 was the FIRST year that required an ID to register (Intuit ID at the time), you really needed to go with 2013, which is my opinion is still better than the current subscription since it does not have any of the online cloud features that cause so many problem.
I don't know where you are going to find your needed patch release, best of luck, but if you do, be sure to save it.
Thanks for giving me some insight into Quicken 2014 and I vaguely remember needing an Intuit ID ( think I still have the password for it, but that's not going to do me any good if the program just keeps throwing out errors . I would love to go to 2013, even thought I'm still not sure that would solve my Mondo patch problem and I just found out - after loading a free version of Quicken 2013, that my data is not backward compatible. I was afraid that might happened and now I'm still stuck. And still trying to find someone who can offer some help.
You may find this post of interest:
If the post does not enable you to find a solution and you want to avoid updating to subscription Quicken, you may want to try exporting QIF from your Q2014 and importing that QIF to Q2013. It’s likely to be quite a clean up task, but you would have all of your data in a readable format.
Besides patching to make sure that Quicken 2014 through 2017 are using the Quicken Id instead of the Intuit ID, one has to be able to get the registration in place so that Quicken doesn't have to go to the servers to check it, because those servers are no longer working.
I'm going to post the page that was on my website talking about that and I will leave it up to moderators to decide if it violates anything. If it does feel free to remove it. This is the one and only time I will post it on this site.
There is a discussion at the Quicken forum (URL below) about this problem. The general workaround is to copy the Quicken.ini file from an old working machine to the new machine, but it seems to be important that no matter if you copy the Quicken.ini file from the old machine, or use the hack below editing the Quicken.ini file, you should first install Quicken and the latest patch, and copy/change the Quicken.ini file before running Quicken. community.quicken.com/discussion/comment/20292663 Basically, to install Quicken 2014 to 2017 you need to login to the Quicken Id to register, and that is no longer working. If you have the right Quicken.ini file, it will already have the registration information in it and therefore not need to login. Note that at other times the login screen might still come up, but you should be able to bypass it and go on doing whatever were doing. Below is a hack that one user found. I'm posting the procedure but can't really add anything to it, in fact it doesn't work for some people, and has never worked for me. I suspect one of the main reasons it might not work for a given person is that the Quicken Id used has somehow been changed that makes it invalid. For instance, for sure you can't create a new Quicken Id and use that. Since this is a hack on person found, there is little chance that asking about it on the Quicken forum will result in any new information. NEW information about this hack. The key is a network-off installation + using an old QDF to initialize the software with the network still off for the first time Once a screen appears that says " Welcome, Quicken user! Please read the following important information about Quicken and some explanation about moving the service from Intuit ID to Quicken ID. " shut down the software and perform the rest of the instructions found below. (Note from me, given that it is talking about the Intuit Id instead of the Quicken Id is possible that "using an old QDF" might mean using one that is old enough that it is before your Quicken data file was switched to the Quicken Id. This happened in a patch after Quicken was sold to Quicken Inc.) 1. Install Quicken 2014 through 2017. 2. Install but do not run Quicken. 3. Install latest patch for your version from here: Quicken Patches 4. With Windows File Explorer go to C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Quicken\Config (Note ProgramData is a hidden folder you have to set Windows File Explorer to show hidden items to see it) 5. Open Quicken.ini with a text editor. 6. Delete the following lines if they exist. [Registration] RegistrationCount=0 7. Then add (at the end of the file should be fine). [Registration] InstallationID=TH1S1SG00BLEDEEG00KF0RQU1CKENREG RegisteredVersion=2600 (2600 is for Quicken 2017, 2500 Quicken 2016, and down such for each year version do not include what is in these paratheses, just the proper version number) RegistrationCount=1 LaunchCount=1 8. Save the modified Quicken.ini file. 9. Put your data file e.g., *.QDF into a suitable directory. 10. It should be associated with Quicken so just double click on it. (You could open it from within Quicken but this way is easier.) If you have already run Quicken after the install and the above doesn't work, you can try to get a clean uninstall and try again using this procedure: QCleanUI It has been reported that if you close the blank login screen three times, Quicken will let you in to see your data. So, you should try that too. If all of this fails, you will need to pay for Quicken Subscription to recover your data. After you pay for Quicken Subscription you have a few choices. Stay with Quicken Subscription. Export a QIF file and try to move to another application that will read in and cancel the subscription within 30 days. Export a QIF file and try this process to move it to Quicken 2013 which is the last version before the Quicken Id (actually Intuit Id) was introduced. You can get Quicken Windows US 2013 Deluxe for free from the second link and cancel the subscription within 30 days. ChangeTransfers changed transfers in a QIF file to categories to workaround Quicken not importing QIF transfers correctly. Quicken Windows US Deluxe 2013
