Security list updating a nightmare

I have lots of securities in my Quicken data. I want to clean up the list on a regular basis, but it is a nightmare. All I want to do is uncheck Download, uncheck watch list and check hide. Easy, right? WRONG.

I uncheck, the check comes back, I repeat, it comes back again. Finally it takes - maybe after 5 or 6 attempts. I go to another security, guess what. The security I unchecked after about 5 minutes ago returns checked. Sometimes I check Hide and the check returns on the watchlist.

It will take me a year to clean my security list at this rate. Each check takes a few seconds to record.

I'm on Win 11 R67.7

    Hello @fciani,

Thank you for reporting the issues you are running into.

How long has this been an issue? It sounds like you could be experiencing issues with your data file. Validating the file may help clear this up.

    To do this:

    1. Save a backup.
    2. Go to File.
    3. Select Validate and Repair file… Validate and Repair 2.png
    4. Check the first box for Validate file.
    5. Click Ok.

Once the validation has completed, it will produce a report of anything it has found/corrected. After this, try some more of that cleanup, and let me know if anything has changed.

    Thank you.

    Hello @fciani,

    Thank you for following up!

Since the issue persists after validating, please proceed to Super Validate following the instructions provided below.

    Super Validate:

    1. File
    2. Hold CTRL + Shift and click Validate and Repair File...
    3. Super Validate File image.png
    4. Click OK
    5. Close the Data Log
    6. Close Quicken (leave it closed for at least 30 secs)
    7. Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.

Let us know how it goes!

@fciani it sounds like something is interfering with Quicken writing your updates to its data file. Where is your data file stored? Are you using any back up programs like google drive or one drive? What antivirus program are you using?

Quicken user since Q1999. Currently using QW2017.

Super validate didn't work. File is stored locally. I use Bitdefender. I have also reported this to Quicken.

You might try pausing BitDefender while running Quicken to see if that makes a difference. There are no recent reports of conflicts, but please let us know what you find.
