Slow Down Scrolling in Register

Scrolling using the mouse wheel works just fine in all apps other than Quicken — a reasonable pace, but faster than single-clicks on the up or down arrow on the scroll bar.

However, when I scroll in a Quicken register, it moves ridiculously fast.

Why??? And how can I slow this down? It's useless the way it's currently working.

Sorry, but I'm not seeing such. And, just now, I checked in banking, card, investment, liability and "Other" accounts.

And when I stop either scrolling the mouse, or clicking the scroll bar … the register movement stops instantly.

So, I have to suspect that it's something about your computer that's the cause. What's the Display Resolution that you're using? What's the Scale? This info is part of your Window's "Settings".

BTW, I'm running an Intel Core Ultra 7 @ 2.4 GHz, with Win 11 … i.e., a pretty fast machine. So if "too fast" was an issue, it should be apparent to me.

I'm using a wide screen monitor - resolution 1920x1080. The actual size of the Quicken window is smaller because I'm viewing two windows side-by-side. But it also happens when I am just using the laptop screen.

It doesn't happen all the time, but definitely several times a week (I might use Quicken 3 or 4 days during that time period).

At times, it scrolls normally like a typical manual scroll.

Other times I start scrolling and it takes off so rapidly that I can't see the content of the transactions and have to "click" in order to stop it from scrolling.

I was just able to recreate it — I am looking at a register that is one of the larger ones. One rotation of the mouse scrolled 29 transactions on a 2-row display. Sometimes, it does not stop and just keeps going until I click somewhere on the screen to force a stop. And when I scroll again, sometimes it scrolls normally, moving only a transaction or so,

As I mentioned, this is NOT an issue in other apps. For example, when I make the same mouse rotation on this website screen, the screen moves about 1.5-2 inches.

Do you click on the scroll wheel to start scrolling and then move the mouse up and down? While doing so, does the mouse pointer change to a circle with up/down arrows inside it? While moving the mouse, does that cause scrolling speed to increase until "it runs away"?

Normal mouse scrolling without clicking should work at a "normal scrolling speed", based on the settings in Control Panel / Mouse / Wheel.

No, I do not click to scroll.

No, the mouse cursor does not change.

No, I do not move the mouse when I am scrolling.

I've worked in IT for decades. I know how to use a mouse. Like I said, this is only an issue in Quicken.

I've reviewed the mouse settings — multiple times.

I've watched for patterns — sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't.

I'm not seeing this either. I have a Logitech M510 mouse using the Microsoft driver on a 2560x1440 100% display, and each "detent" on the scroll wheel is exactly one transaction in Quicken. Changing to 1400x1050 gives the same result. Tried Large Fonts and got the same result.

What I do notice is that the mouse settings don't affect what Quicken does for scrolling. This isn't a surprise to me, and most likely is at the bottom of why you are having problems only in Quicken.

Quicken being a very old program tends of be using very old API calls in certain places. When the comes to "mouse movements", this can mean that if functions differently than other programs that are using the more modern API calls.

If you aren't using the Microsoft mouse driver you might try it just to see if that changes the behavior.
