krm11, our new reports don't have these because we felt that most of the time they weren't useful since it could only list a few items at a time. For example, if you had 30 categories or 15 accounts selected, that list would only display maybe 10 of these and you still wouldn't know there were more hidden. However, I think you're right in that there is no way to know there is any customization or filtering of the report and this is something we'll also have to add. Maybe we'll change the color the customize button and do a tooltip that would list all the parameters. What do people think of this idea?RickO said:Marcus... some nice additions here. There are some cosmetic problems with the new ability to customize Transaction Report columns:
1) The placement of the column customization is not consistent with other parts of the program. Here it is within Customize settings. In other places (e.g.. Portfolio View), there is a Columns button on the row of buttons at the top. Other places, you can also right click on the column headers to choose columns. Both of the latter options would be preferred.
2) The Notes column should properly be called Memo/Notes to agree with the registers.
3) When you add a column such as Memo/Notes, it gets added quite wide which pushes the Amount column off screen to the right. That might not be such a problem as long as the user notices and resizes columns. But... the column width settings don't stick; they again become very wide as soon as you leave the report and return to it.
4) What is the ATTM column? That's not a column in a transaction register. Is it a misnomer for something else?
One more suggestion: (and this applies throughout the program)... In other Mac programs there is sometimes a convention that shift-clicking or command-clicking on a disclosure triangle will collapse all (if you click on an open one), or expand all (if you click on a closed one). That would be very helpful throughout Quicken. This could also be accomplished with little Expand All and Collapse All buttons on the button row.0 -

That sounds great. I would strongly suggest you add both...there are a lot of keyboard users out here. ;-)Have Questions? Help Guide for Quicken for Mac

As always, great follow up questions.Interesting times with the release of the Canadian version...Thx.
I posted the following questions here (before these notes), but you have more or less answered the first 2 from that list in your notes. I am posted the rest of them here:- 2. So essentially the CA version is just the US version with US specific features turned off, based on the Home Currency? Or is there more to it?
- 3. Does the CA "version" of QM2018 include the ability to download from US FI/Banks?
- 4. The US version of QM2018 includes ability to download from CDN FI/Banks. Will this continue to be true?
- 5. The footnotes indicate that Quicken Mobile only works in Canada. Is this a unique version for Canada? Does it not link to US accts?
- 6. I also see that Quicken Mobile is listed to only work with QM2017 and later but the US site lists it as working will all versions of QMac...is there a different versions of QMobile to work with QM2015 and QM2016?
- 7. Is Premium support not available for QM2018 CA like it is for the US? After all, they are effectively the same product (the CA version having reduced functionality)?
1) There is literally a Canadian membership that is unique and different than the US membership. Therefore we key off of this. If you buy this membership then we'll default more things to Canada by default. With that said we also realize that there are probably around 10% of Mac customers who are Canadian's using the US membership or at least have been using the US version. We are working through ways we can allow Canadians like yourself to take advantage of the Canadian-centric items like investment accounts and tax items without unduly annoying the majority of our US customers. We're still working through those scenarios so stay tuned on that. My main point is we realize there are a significant number of Canadians using the US Mac version since there wasn't a Canadian Mac version and we won't leave you stuck.
2) Yes, when I say accounts I mean bank and investment accounts. As I said above, we realize we have a lot of Canadian customers using the US product and we want you to be able to continue to use whichever version you want. We also realize that some Canadians have to deal with US accounts and taxes.
4) It's a great point that it's not obvious how to get priority support on the Mac site. Actually, if you purchase the Windows Home and Business account you'll get it. Like I said, the subscriptions aren't really about Mac or Windows even though the website implies that they are. You're really purchasing a membership and that membership allows you to download and use either Windows or Mac or both products. It's your choice.0 -
Marcus, I agree that long lists of parameters are clunky in the header, so adding a tooltip to show parameters would be helpful. I don't object to seeing change in color on the customize button, however, simply having attention drawn to it to promote looking in that list is a bit tricky, since the first screenful of, say, categories could all show as checked (included), but you don't really know if "all" are included unless you scroll through to see if any are unchecked further down the list. Thank you!RickO said:Marcus... some nice additions here. There are some cosmetic problems with the new ability to customize Transaction Report columns:

We're going to do that but it was going to take a lot more time to build out and we decided to wait for the upcoming massive rework of scheduled transactions coming this month so we did the easiest thing for now. The problem we're trying to address is that QMac 2017 simply drops the month if the day doesn't exist which I think we would all agree is the wrong thing to.Having a discussion over here (in the SU Lounge) about the handling of monthly scheduled transactions that occur on the 29th, 20th or 31st of the month...
QM2018 handles this by pushing any of those dates to ALWAYS be the LAST DAY OF THE month...Not elegant.
QM2007 on the other hand gives a warning that not all months end with that date and gives the option to skip those months or to make then all the Last Day of the Month. Better but also not most elegant.
QWin on the other hand simply automatically assumes you mean the last day of the month and goes to the Last Day of the Monthly ONLY on months where that date does not exists, e.g. if the schedule is monthly on the 31st, on months that have less days, QWin makes it the last day (30th, 29th, 28th) for THAT month ONLY, then resumes on the 31st...(likewise for 30th and 29th).
Conclusion, it would be nice if QM2018 handled it the same way as QWin...or a combination of QWin and QM2007 (warning you and giving the option of what it will do).0 -

Great questions. IRR and ROI uses your data and is specific to you. IRR, in particular, takes into account when you bought the security, if you sold any shares, dividends received, etc. We do plan on relaxing a requirement that you had to own the security at the beginning of the period before performance calculations are made which we'll make available in a future update. The bottom line is that the performance numbers are specific to your data.Bobalaska said:I have a couple questions about IRR and ROI.
1. Are these only generic values, i.e. for the given holding period for the YTD, 1 and 3 year periods specified? Or are they specific to the individual investor? For example, if I were bought GE a week ago, would the YTD value reflect GE's performance from January 1 until today, or from one week ago until today?
2. Either way, is any consideration being given to adding an option of being able to display ROI and/or IRR in the Portfolio Value view, so a user doe not have to use the drop down menu and go to Performance? I would prefer one window for sure.
Thanks.
The reason it's separate is for performance reasons. It's possible that after a bunch of performance and optimization work that we might allow you to include the performance columns in the regular portfolio view but it's simpler for us to keep them separate for now.0 -

The update screen pops up whenever I open Quicken Mac 2017. Just started about 10 minutes ago.
This is clearly a Quicken Mac 2018 update. Not for 2017.
Any help would be appreciated.0 -

1) So if you only default to Canada specific things, does this mean the user can switch by changing a setting? If I read correctly, it seems like at the moment, this cannot be changed by the user.
2) As it is today, it is still not clear as to whether the CA version still has access to the US banks for downloading...seems implied but is not clear...please confirm (a quick way would be to confirm if they use the same FIDIR.txt file).
4) But the question really is that if a CA user wants priority service and buys from the US site (for Premier or H&B) will they be able to access the Canadian features at this point (of course this depends on the answer from 1).
Need to get clear answers as we often get questions in the forum for purchase recommendations.
Glad you are working it through. Look forward to the end result.
BTW, in today's global world, please keep in mind that there are US users that use services cross-border, not just CA users. So as examples, features like BillPay may still be needed by CA users you have US accounts, or US users working in Canada. Also, users may start on one side of the border, then migrate, so access to features change.
P.S. You may want to refer to our detailed e-mails discussing these various issues, starting Nov 21, 2016 onward, if they were of any help (if you still have them).Have Questions? Help Guide for Quicken for Mac

Thanks RickO. I did double check that before posting. I haven't tried to Reset the connected services as the ConnectLogs.txt file shows "unable to login" error. So resetting it won't work since it can't connect to reset it in the first place. Appreciate the response.Jeff said:Is anyone else having QuickenCloud issues since upgrading to 5.4.1? So as an update to this it appears to be only impacting my bank accounts. Credit cards, investment accounts and anything non-bank specific seem to be downloading fine and connecting to the QuickenCloud. The error is still there though and I can't seem to get rid of it. I did try to reset my Connected Services and that did not fix it either.Jeff said:Is anyone else having QuickenCloud issues since upgrading to 5.4.1? since the update payments made to another account are showing up as payments instead of deposits. An example would be the primary checking pays a credit card account but the payment shows up on the credit card account as a payment as well. This appears to be affecting scheduled transactions.0

Update..... I changed from Quicken Connect to Direct Connect and my issues completely went away. So at this point I've resolved my own problem but had to go through a lot of hoops with this new version that I haven't had to do before.Jeff said:Is anyone else having QuickenCloud issues since upgrading to 5.4.1? smayer97's #1 above, (expanded a bit).
Say you a Canadian license in your Quicken account. You now will have access to the installs for Canadian versions of Window and Mac. And note that the Canadian Windows install is different than the US one. But if I'm not mistaken the Mac install is actually the same as the US version. The Mac side is using the license to decide Canadian or US "behavior". (But maybe I have this wrong and it something in the Mac install, and the license that behavior.)
Say instead you have an US license in your Quicken account. You have access to the US Windows and Mac installs. Again again the "behavior" is keyed off the license in the case of Mac, and Windows it a "different"/branched version that is very close, but not just changing based on the license (I might have this wrong too, and it would be very good news if it isn't branch, but is switched by the license.)
Given the above i will guess that any given Quicken account, can't have both a Canadian and US license at the same time. One would have to be using different accounts/Quicken Ids.
Note to me it is very clear that this isn't something that the user can switch on and off in the program.
On #2, it seems Marcus already answered this one:We are NOT changing the account access based on the membership so both
On #4, I would think the person would be buying the Canadian Home & Business membership level to get the priority service, not any US version. Note that means they would have Canadian Windows Home & Business, and Canadian Mac Deluxe editions.
US and Canadian accounts will be available to both US and Canadian
customers.
Perhaps one could buy the US Premier version or above and still get premium support for the Canadian versions they have, but that implies they have a need for both the US and Canadian versions.
Now for "my questions":
Which basically came to my mind when I was posting/reading this:
https://getsatisfaction.com/quickencommunity/topics/quicken-canada-mac-vs-windows
How good is the multiple currency support at this point?
Did anyone give a thought to the conversion from Quicken Canadian Windows to Quicken Canadian Mac? (how good is it?)
Note, I expect the Mac to Windows to be the same disaster it has been for years.

so one thing is clear...the decision for a Canadian user has gotten very complicated to navigate, as the Quicken site does not help as it is now.Interesting times with the release of the Canadian version...Thx.

Just downloaded the update 5.4.2. Looks like the column width modification appear to be working. Quicken is indeed remembering the widths I selected. Wondering if Marcus had a chance to review some of the bill & income issues RickO, QPW & I discussed a few weeks ago.0

I was referring to the column width in the PV.Concordman said:Just downloaded the update 5.4.2. Looks like the column width modification appear to be working. I just downloaded 5.4.2. I know Marcus stated we would temporarily lose ability in Comparison Reports to drill down to register, but I noticed we also lost the ability to automatically show memos when clicking on categories. I can customize to show memo/notes but I have to do it each time I select a category. Moreover, memos from split transactions don't appear at all. For me, individually, the old Comparison Report was more useable.0
