    This deficiency has gone on for way too long. I worked for thirty-four years in what’s now know as "IT". Since this problem was solved long ago in the Windows World I cannot understand the delay/difficulity in "moving" it to the Mac world. It would seem trivial to plagiarize the Windows code and implement it on the Mac platform. I did something similar, moving applications from one type of hardware/software to a completely different platform. It took a little time and thought, but it certainly wasn’t anything extremely difficult.

    @robbie.richard.w It’s anything but trivial to “move” Quicken Windows code to Quicken Mac. The databases are completely different, as are the programming languages. About all you could hope for is that the logic/design might be able to be borrowed — but due to the differences in the database design, even that is unlikely.

    That said, it really isn’t the issue here. The issue is one of resource allocation. The Quicken Mac development team is quite small, and they have several hundred valid feature requests. So it’s all a matter of which things they deem most pressing. For instance, they’ve put a lot of resources into developing the business and invoicing features over the past two years — and that comes at the expense of work on other features. I can’t explain (because I have no insight) why this particular feature has not been prioritized over others. So I understand and share the frustration.

    And even though the two programs are similar there are some differences in the approaches taken. One of the design goals easy back when they started the total rewrite of Quicken Mac was to make a “Mac Program” not just a clone of the Windows version. In reference to this actual feature, this is implemented in Quicken Windows as a “wizard”, something that it seems the Mac developers seem reluctant to do. I can understand that, the use of these “wizards” do have some drawbacks. One of the main one being visibility to the user what is really being done in.the background.

  • Quicken Mac users pay the same annual rate for Quicken that Quicken Windows users do. It's utterly asinine that there's no parity between the two systems. This is basic investment management functionality that should be included. The time cost of workarounds is far too great.

    After 25 years of using Quicken, I'm currently investigating other alternatives that prioritize my needs as a customer.

    Honeywell just had a stock split that created a new security Solstice. Trying to deal with this in multiple accounts showed me that Q Mac lacks a stock split option. In another instance I was unable to transfer cash from one investment account to another. Both these abilities are available in the Windows version. Searching in Quicken Support and Community did not provide a solution .

    Quicken Mac does have a stock split command. But what it is missing is a divestiture/spin off command for a situation like the one you’ve just run into. There is an existing longtime Idea thread for this functionality, and you should add you vote and comment there:

    Transferring cash between two investment accounts should be straightforward; if you’d like help with that, please post back.

    @John H,

    I went ahead and merged your idea with this existing one that @jacobs linked.

    Thank you for sharing!
