No file change -- no backup

I just noticed that when I started up quicken just to look at some info, when I quit it still backed up the file even though nothing had changed. This seems like a waste of my time and disk space. Why not reserve backups for when changes have occurred.

@Quicken_Natalie" I'm running the current 5.14.0 release, and the problem described above seems easy to reproduce for me -- but I have discovered it may be macOS dependent.
On a Mac running macOS Mojave, with the preferences checkbox checked for "Automatically back up data file when quitting Quicken":- Launch Quicken.
- Quit Quicken.
But then I repeated the test, using a nearly identical data file, on a Mac running macOS Sierra. Here, it did NOT perform a backup, which is the expected behavior.
I don't know why the results would vary on two Macs running different versions of macOS, but that's what I'm observing.Quicken Mac Subscription • Quicken user since 19935 -
Hello @jacobs,
Thank you for doing some additional testing and reporting back with these additional details!
I am currently running MacOS High Sierra version 10.13.6, so you may be onto something with this issue being OS-specific.
I have gone ahead and reported this behavior and will post back with any new information as it becomes available.
Thank you,
Quicken Natalie

That is supposed to be how it works. That "feature" was added some time ago. What version are you using? If you are able to reproduce this, I suggest you use the "Report a Problem" under the Help menu in Quicken to submit this issue or contact Quicken Support. The ONLY Official Quicken Support can be reached for FREE via chat or phone.

I think this has been "broken" for awhile (e.g. it backs up all the time if you have it set to do automatic backups without prompting you). The way to work around this is to click the checkbox in Preferences to "ask to back up data file before backing up".Quicken Mac Subscription • Quicken user since 19935

Hello @alancondit1085,
Thank you for taking the time to visit the Community and post your issue, although I apologize for the difficulties you're experiencing with Quicken.
Would you mind going to Quicken>About Quicken and providing the version/release that you're currently running?
Would you mind also providing a bit more detail regarding what you're doing when launching Quicken that indicates no change has been made?
I am using version 5.14.0 (Build 514.31804.100) and was unable to replicate any issue with the backup functionality. I tested this multiple times while selecting/deselecting the various settings for this function, and every time it seemed to behave accordingly.
Please let us know some more details so we can best assist!
Thank you,
Quicken Natalie

Quicken Natalie,
Like Jacob, I am running Version 5.14.0 (Build 514.31804.100) on macOS 10.15.2 (Mojave).
