How do I get this savings overview in Quicken Starter for Windows?

Here's a screenshot I took today from the Quicken website:

I previously had a Deluxe subscription and recognized this view as the "Planning" tab for Savings Goals. This screenshot led me to believe Savings Goals were still available in the Starter edition, and I downgraded about a month ago. But now I can't get that view back, and other discussions in this community indicate that Savings Goals are not available in Starter. So how did this view end up on the webpage for Starter?

This smells like false advertising to me, but maybe there's an alternate way to get a view like this. Can someone point me to a tutorial or other resource that explains how to get this savings overview? I'm on R51.10.

[I previously posted this question in the wrong category. I think this category, Budgeting and Planning Tools (Windows), is a better location.]

    Hello @jklmn,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community with your question.

Unfortunately, Savings Goals is not supported in the Quicken Starter subscription, though it is supported in Quicken Deluxe and higher subscriptions. I apologize for the misinformation that was posted on the webpage. Thank you for providing that screenshot and letting us know about that. I will get this forwarded and reported to the proper channels so we can get this corrected.

We apologize for any confusion that may have caused! Thank you.

Are you saying your Planning tab is not visible? If that is the case, go to View > Tabs to Show > check Planning if it is not checked.

If that does not work, try toggling back and forth between the Standard menus and Classic menus (under the View menu).

Did either of these things resolve the issue for you?

Are you saying your Planning tab is not visible?

No, that's not what I mean. I can visit the Planning tab, but it does not show my existing goals (created when I had Deluxe, before downgrading to Starter). I have also included the View menu in my screenshot, and it doesn't have any of the options you mentioned. Mine looks like this:

Try going to Edit > Preferences > Navigation > check the box under Main Navigation for Use classic menus and for Show tabs > OK.

Also, I would suggest going to Edit > Preferences > Setup > if Use New Subscriber settings… is checked, uncheck it > OK.

Does doing these things bring up the Savings Goals tab?

If not, go back to the View menu. Do you now see the option to toggle back and forth between Standard Menus and Classic Menus? If so, try doing that a couple of times. For some odd reason, this toggling can sometimes cause a view refresh restoring things that were previously not visible. Does this restore the Savings Goals tab?

One other thing that I've heard can sometimes help to restore missing views is to Edit > Preferences > Quicken ID & Cloud Accounts > Sign in as a different user > Yes > Sign Out > when you are prompted to sign back in, use your current Quicken ID and PW.

Did any of this help resolve the issue for you?

The long term consensus of Superusers on this site is that Savings goals are not supported in the Starter Edition.

I have no comment on truth in advertising issues associated with Quicken's marketing efforts.

The "Main navigation" section is not present in my version:

I successfully disabled New Subscriber settings, but it did not have any noticeable effect. I also tried signing out and back in as suggested with no change. Specifically, I don't see anything different about the View menu, the options presented in the Preferences dialog, the visible tabs, or the view on the Planning tab. (Was there ever a Savings Goals tab? I don't recall seeing one with that name, even in Deluxe.)

The long term consensus of Superusers on this site is that Savings goals are not supported in the Starter Edition. I have no comment on truth in advertising issues associated with Quicken's marketing efforts.

I agree with that assessment. Perhaps once the business week begins, an official Quicken moderator can provide input.

    @jklmn -

Was there ever a Savings Goals tab? I don't recall seeing one with that name, even in Deluxe.

I can't speak to Deluxe (too many years ago that I used Deluxe) but in Premier the Savings Goals tab is a sub-tab on the Planning tab. There really are not too many differences between Deluxe and Premier editions so I'd assumed it is also present in Deluxe. But if it is not, then I've learned something new.:

Sorry to hear that none of the suggestions I had panned out for you. Those are some of the most common troubleshooting steps to take to get an advertised view/feature/function that is not showing up to show up, again.

When Quicken online marketing documentation specifically shows that an edition has or does not have specific features it's usually been pretty reliable information. It's beginning to sound like maybe this is an exception (a big exception in my mind).

As a SU, myself, I can state that I have not been part of that consensus mentioned by @q_lurker. But that does not surprise me too much. I am pretty sure that all SUs find out new things about Quicken from time to time. It appears that I just did.

And, I agree, it would really be nice for a Moderator to pipe in here and provide some comment or some instructions on how to get the Savings Goals Goals feature up and running in Starter.

In the meantime, it would also be a good idea for you to report the issue via Help > Report an issue… or by Phone or Chat. The Quicken Team needs to either fix the documentation or, better yet, get Quicken fixed so this feature is available and working as documented.

To further my 'not-supported' perspective, I cite and quote from this blog post dated 4/24/23:

    https://www.quicken.com/blog/planning-tab-quicken-for-windows/

For the best experience, make sure your Quicken for Windows  version is up-to-date. (Quicken Starter  includes monthly budget planning. The rest of the features presented here are available on Quicken Deluxe and above.)

That 'rest of the features presented' includes Savings Goals.. There is support for the idea that SGs created before the downgrade to Starter may still exist and be usable, albeit with lessened reporting capabilities.

Doubtful that a mod will jump in, but I'll flag this discussion for them to increase their awareness.
