Update from R52.28 to R52.33 hangs on Optimizing and Executing files (2 times now)
Sorry I posted in wrong area first time and can't find a way to change, this is correct area (I hope).
I tried this 2 times, both time acted the same. I restored an image
between the two updates. On Windows 10 64 bit latest MS Updates. Also prior to 2nd attempt I did Super Validate before and after, chkdsk and sfc /scannow - they all went wit no errors.
All looks good and then it gets stuck on Optimizing and Executing files,
the circle is spinning for a couple minutes. Then pop up box says error
click on close box and you will be told what to do. I click on close box
and get Quicken message update was successful. It appears good when I
check version number. Super validate was good prior to the 2nd attempt.
Also was good after the strange update message and hanging on the
Optimizing message.
Quicken seems to be working alright, but wonder what happen. CHKDSK is good and so is SCF /scannow
Did find this in event log Application Error event id 1000 there were all some other errors around that time period event 3029 3057 3058…

After doing a search this seems to be an ongoing issue for many since May 2023 and as far as I can tell from discussions has not been resolved? Not sure why updates are released when the update process has issues?
After seeing all the posts on this and no solutions, I am confused? All the discussions just get closed, why is that? If Quicken thinks this has been resolved, it hasn't. Also, is Quicken really running okay or should I go back to an earlier release, I just need to know. It appears to run and all is fine, but under the covers it may have an issue?

You say that "Quicken seems to be working alright", so I don't understand what the issue is. But, if there is still a problem, I'd try uninstalling Quicken, reboot your computer, and re-install the latest version from scratch.

Quicken could be working fine from what I see, but it did not install correctly with a valid ending of the application process. So from my view as someone with 38 years of computer programming experience, when programs (or applications as they are called now) don't complete as planned- something is wrong. And we would find the issue, fix it and see if it was causing damage that wasn't apparent at the moment. Maybe it's serious and won't be noticed until down the road, maybe some leftover garbage is left in a file- but differently something went wrong. How or if it will show itself, you just don't know.

Have you tried creating a new Windows user account and installing Quicken from there?
Quicken Subscription HBRP - Windows 100 -
No haven't tried that, seems that would be a pain having to have another user for Quicken. Also, I believe I would have to uninstall and clean up the current installed Quicken. Shouldn't be necessary. Quicken seems to be running okay for functions I now use. I don't use any online functions or stocks etc, I could get by with Quicken for DOS, I just screwed up and updated not knowing they went to yearly licenses. My old policy was to update software every 5 years to new release and that was a mistake. Since it doesn't happen except on a patch update maybe it will be fixed next time? What concerns me most is Quicken knows many are having the problem and seem to be ignoring. I called support and the person didn't acknowledge there was an issue. I guess if I was really concerned that Quicken might be corrupt, I could download the mondo patch if they even have such a thing anymore. Don't know where it's at, but guess I could find it.

I didn't mean to run Quicken from a new Windows account, just try installing it to see if there's a problem with your current Windows account. It can just be a local account and not a Microsoft account.
I've installed Quicken on 3 of my computers without any errors. Also, there doesn't seem to be any other posters with the same problem.

Happen again going from 52.33 to 53.16
Hung here, behind the popup to tight of blue circle is message Optimizing and Executing files, stays there about 1 minute or less and then the Updatelcons has stop working box.
I clicked on close program and got this
All looked fine, I was on R53.16 and super validate ran with no errors.
I did see several post back in May 2023 that people had this issue, will try to find them again. Actually found 11 post on search of "Optimizing and Executing files" from May 2023 forward. Even did chkdsk, sfc /scannow and virus checks- all was well.

Happened again and I have screenshots. During optimizing and exec files, it hangs and error message popup box showing problem with Updatelcons.exe. To the right of blue circle is the message Optimizing and Exec Files. Pop up is covering it up. Spins for about 30 - 45 seconds before pop up box.
Did a search on this forum (Optimizing and Executing files) and many have had this issue since May and Quicken support was working on it.
Then after I click on close program
Then I did super validate and all was well. Even did a chkdsk, sfc /scannow, and three different virus scans- all was well.
Same event code error for UpdateIcons.exe (note this is name in popup box)
which is in Quicken directory, seems Quicken should be able to see
what is going on? As mention this error is easy to find other posts as

Well, here is my take on this. Clearly UpdateIcons.exe crashed for some reason.
One possible cause might be that account that this was installed from has something it doesn't understand. I would try an install from a new administrator account, one that has no spaces in the account name (what comes after C:\User).
If that fixes it or not, I would then decide to go on without worrying about it.
Clearly the purpose of this program is to update the icons to include "Classic", if that has already happened then it has already served its purpose (or if you can fix them in some other way).
I wouldn't think the Quicken developers would spend any time on this. First off, you are the first to reported it, but mostly because this is a one-time thing. Hopefully they won't include this program in future patches. In fact, it isn't a one-time thing then the one thing they could do is remove it from future patches.

Thanks for the suggestion, I did create a new administrator account to try on the next update. However, my current user name doesn't have any spaces, it's just c:\users\Jer
Icon doesn't have the "Classic" added to the name. If I wanted I could add it myself, but fine like it is.
I am really not the first to report this issue, do a search on this website for "Optimizing and Executing files" and you will find several since May 2023 and Quicken moderator has even responded to a few. I will find one and post it later. Now as I look back my first post on Nov 24 has one of several reports of this issue and below is one of the responses.

Why does Quicken freeze on updates every time I open it?

I didn't make what I was saying clear, the icon doesn't have Classic in it, it just changes to a different icon that they are using for "Classic". This is the icon:

Same problem with last update: two errors in log event first one is 1000 and the other 1026. Sorry I forgot to try the other user ID suggested.

I used another administrator account I created and it didn't make any difference, same error on latest update today. One thing that happens so fast I can't get a screen shot is that when I click on close it flashes "deleted all temporary files" and then displays the update successful box. Which it does seem to be okay as far as anything I can see or validate. Think I will check with some of those that posted this problem and see if it ever went away. Seems to be all around that one module Updatelcons. Which must come from Quicken. The path on error message is C:\ProgramData\Quicken\Inet\Common\patch\quickenPatch\w5917\temp\UpdateIcons.exe. And if I go look now that path has no data after C:\ProgramData\Quicken\Inet\Common\patch\quickenPatch quickenPatch is an empty folder
Guess I won't check with others that had this issues, the discussions have all been closed. Some said they used task manager to kill MSIcleanp to stop the hang, but mine to hang long enough to start task manager and kill a task. They did say a mondo patch worked, but still hung on next update. This makes it sound like a system error, but all checks of of system software check out good.

Maybe next time I will stop Webroot while updating.
