Investment By Security shows old securities
I am trying to create a report that shows my security invesment over several years. I selected the "Investment by Security" report, then selected the accounts an then used the date range "Earliest to date". This report gives me exactly what I want for all my current investments, but it also shows all the old investments I have sold. Is there a way to eliminate all the old investments I have sold? I know I could select which securities to include in the report, but that cumbersome as I make changes in the accounts. Plus I may sell a security in one account and keep it in another.

Please clarify which report you're referencing. I show "Income by Security" and "Investing Activity" reports … but no "Investment by Security" … which seems to be a self-redundant name.

I don't think there is a report called "Investment by Security". I assume you mean "Income by Security"?
As far as not showing old securities, no, there is no easy way to not show sold securities. The reason is because this is a report of income by security and as long as the security has any kind of income during the time range you have selected it will show up unless you customize it to deselect the particular security which I agree can be very cumbersome.
One suggestion, which I realize is not perfect, would be to create a custom report for each investment account and save them. This way if you sell a security in one account and don't want it to show anymore you can remove it there without removing it for other accounts.

You are right, my mistake. The report is Income by Security. Too bad there is not an option to exclude securities with a market value of zero. Adding separate reports for each account would work, but then I lose the total for all accounts. I guess I can copy the information to Excel and track it there.
Thank you for your responses.

One other weird thing with this report which makes sense when you think about the purpose of the report is that securities with no income do not show up. I realized this when I bought a security that was new to one of my accounts (but existed in others) and couldn't get it to show up in the account. This was because I bought it late in the day at the price it closed at. Unrealized gain/loss is one of the income categories and it is zero. Of course all of the other income categories were also zero so it didn't show up. Next day when the price changed it did show up.

I think that what might be a useful addition to this report is the ability to set a range for the Market Value … so that one could specify "greater than $0". Such as exists on the Advanced tab of the Banking, Transaction report.
Or, as an alternative, being able to specify "Open positions only"

Agreed.
Another change I would like to see to this report is that the "Income as %" column is meaningless in my opinion because it is a % or current market value. I would rather it be a % of amount invested (or at least cost basis). That would make more sense.

Is there a way to request changes to Quicken for this report? Good ideas were presented here. I would like to see them brought to their attention.
