Other assets

I'm on Quicken Classic Deluxe for Mac - version 7.1.1

Under account settings there are 3 types of "Asset" accounts as follows: Other / Real Estate / Vehicles. But all of those categories are listed under Property and Debt. Why aren't they catagorized separately in the account listing down the left side of my home page with separate subtotals? If if can't be listed this way what is the point in classifying the account separately?

    Hello @Coastal,

While this feature isn't currently offered, if you wish too request this feature to be added in the future, what you can do is create an idea post. This way other users who have the same or a similar request can vote on your idea.

Our Development and Product teams frequently use our idea posts in order to improve Quicken and implement new features requested by customers.

    I hope this helps!

@Coastal You can name the accounts however you want, so they are listed separately in the left sidebar. Are you saying you want to have a subheading and subtotal for each type of asset? You're correct that it does not have subheadings for asset types, just as it doesn't have subheadings for loan types, different types of retirement accounts, etc.

I can't speak for the developers, but I would guess most users have relatively few asset accounts and they didn't see the need to clutter the sidebar with subgroups.

One trick you might find useful is using a number or letter prefix for the accounts, so you can control their order within the group. So…
    1-Home
    2-Vacation Home
    3-Honda
    4-Toyota

Of course, this doesn't give you subtotals for each type of asset, but it does let you group like assets together in the order you want.

As Anja posted above, if this is an important need for you, you should create an Idea post to request this functionality. Other users can then add their votes, and if it reaches the necessary threshold, it gets forward to the developers for their consideration and possible implementation.
