One-Step Update requires hitting Enter key TWICE since v58

binary512
binary512 Member ✭✭✭

When doing a One-Step Update, it used to only required hitting the Enter key, and the process would start. Since v58, hitting Enter brings up another window, which requires you to hit the Enter key AGAIN to start the One-Step update.

This has happened in the past. Please fix…again.

Thank you.

    Hello @binary512,

I have contacted my team for further clarification regarding whether this function is by design or not.

    Thanks!

The button says Update Now. Clicking on it does NOT update anything. It brings up another window with another button that says "Update Now". It was broken in the early 2010s, fixed and is now broken AGAIN. If these bugs are "by design", you have a major problem.

See link for the last time this broke.

    Hello @binary512,

If you don’t mind, could you please provide a screenshot of what you described receiving when hitting the enter key? If needed, please refer to this Community FAQ for instructions on how to attach a screenshot. Alternatively, you can also drag and drop screenshots to your response if you are not given the option to add attachments. Please remember to redact any personal information as needed.

    Thanks!

When entering the password on Screen 1 and clicking on "Update Now", the next window that USED to appear was Screen 3. With the new bug that was recently introduced, after clicking on "Update Now" on Screen 1, it goes to Screen 2. And the button that says "Update Now" must be clicked AGAIN.

I have to click on "Update Now" TWO TIMES to get it to update. Just two releases ago, you only had to click on "Update Now" ONE TIME, and it would update by going to Screen 3.

The first popup is to enter the Vault. The second popup is to engage the account update.

However, once you've successfully entered your credentials for the password vault, future update requests in the same session will not present the Vault logon popup. You will only get the "Update Now" button once.

  • binary512
    binary512 Member ✭✭✭

That is incorrect. The first popup is to do the "One Step Update", hence the label of the button, "UPDATE NOW". It used to work properly until the recent Quicken update.

This happened to me a few years ago. Restoring a backup data file fixed the problem.

  • binary512
    binary512 Member ✭✭✭

This is not an issue with the data file. It is an issue with the programming where clicking on Update Now on one window no longer does what it used to do. It does not run the Update function anymore.

All I can say is I had the problem where I had to click Update Now twice, just as you described. Out of desperation, I tried restoring backup files, hoping the issue would go away. Restoring a datafile from 3 days earlier fixed the problem. I have no explination as to why that worked. I haven't seen the problem since.

Thank you for the input. I have just validated my data file and it shows no errors. Appears to be a bug in the program…

FWIW, I do not see the behavior you describe. After entering the vault password in your screen 1, my experience is the program goes to your screen 3. Screen 2 is shown only when an OSU has already been run in the session; Screen 1 is not shown in that case.

I am using the Business & Personal version and have Sync On but have no accounts enabled for sync.

I do see that your screen 2 does not show the Sync to Quicken Cloud option under Online Services. That may be an indication of a datafile issue or you could have Mobile Sync turned OFF. You might try toggling the Sync option in Preferences to get that to show up in screen 2 and see if the behavior returns to normal.

There may be a coding issue, but it is not universal to all setups as I do not see the issue and so far, you are the only one reporting the issue. I'm leaning towards your datafile having some sort of issue and it may be one that validation does not evaluate.

A File Validation does NOT fix program bugs. It fixes damaged data, which is what caused your issue.

i see the same change as binary512. That is, I get my list of accounts after clicking “Update Now”. Not the biggest of issues, but still a change.

If damaged data caused the issue, then why did the validation show that there were no errors.? Because it is not a data damage issue. It is a programming (bug) issue.

I read this thread twice and just want to add my sequence when doing an OSU. I have not experienced the issue discussed. This is my nornal OSU sequence for years and running latest update R59.10:

Screen 1 (from my Main Screen at startup):

Screen 2 after clicking Update Now in screen 1:

Screen 3 after typing password and clicking Udate Now at Screen 2:

I have used Quicken since version 2, and this is not the normal process. If it were, why does the button labelled "Update Now" on the password screen NOT actually update NOW and the button labelled "Update Now" on the following screen DOES actually update NOW?.?

"Update Now" on the password screen does update for me. I don"t get this screen:

Curious…….. If it is a programing bug because you get a screen that I don't get then why is it that I don't have the same programing bug? I'm running Q Premier by the way….. Good luck and hope you get yours fixed….

@binary512 just a thought. Have you created a "TEST FILE", added a couple of your accounts to it, and setup the OSU in the test file? How does the test file"s OSU work now? Then wait till the next day and run the OSU of the test file again.

To reiterate, a "bug" typically affects all users or a group of users in a unique scenario(s). Until substantially more than 2 users report the issue, it is more likely that some form of datafile corruption occurred during the upgrade than that a bug was introduced in the new software version. A user replying to this thread indicates that they experienced the issue after a corrupting event during a previous upgrade so there is evidence it can happen.

I did test turning Sync Off to see if I could reproduce the issue but in my case OSU functioned nearly the same and did not reproduce the issue at hand.

Further, the datafile validation routines do not repair or discover all forms of datafile corruption that can occur so that successful datafile validation does not mean that the file is free of all possible types of corruption, rather only the most common.

I noticed in the screen shot from retird (who doesn't get the extra screen) that the text under the "Update Now" link says "Settings". I'm getting the extra screen and my screen has the text "One Step Update Settings".

  • RalphC

You are in a user forum where there are no Quicken software engineers. I, for one, am not experiencing this issue, so it's not a systemic problem. If you need assistance with "…a fix to this?", I would advise you to contact Quicken Support and open a ticket.

Well, my process is like @retird .

Launch Quicken, get prompted for my password (on my qdata file).

Either select OSU from the Tools menu or press the OSU button on my tool bar (my preferred way).

Get the dialog to enter my vault password. Enter my password and press the enter/return key on my keyboard.

Quicken displays the OSU progress screen and begins the update. Once completed, I get the Summary screen.

If, while I am still in Quicken, I press the OSU button a second time, I now get the Settings screen that allows me to select/deselect the accounts to update.

So mine is a "one" step update. Not sure why yours is not.

I'm on Quicken 59.18, Win 11 Pro (with all MS updates)

@nmestanas my process is just like yours. I just didn't want to muddy the water by talking about pressing the OSU button a second time while still in Quicken.
