New Chase Credit Card Replacing Cancelled Credit Card

I recently had to cancel a Chase credit card and received a new card. I want to add a new Quicken Credit Card Account and close the cancelled existing account. I have successfully downloaded transactions for multiple years to the old account.

When I try to add a new credit card account in Quicken, to use for my new card I pick Chase as the financial account and am forced to try to "link accounts". I am connected to Chase and need to pick an account. I have not been successful in adding the new card account to Quicken. Can someone explain the steps I need to go through or should I contact Chase for their guidance instead of Quicken? At this point I have been unsuccessful in adding the new account in Quicken.

I've gone through this with Discover and don't recall any such issue.

I'm not a Quicken Mac user, but I would say that personally what I would do is link the new card to the old Quicken account. When Chase closes an account for fraud or whatever and "creates a new account" what they really do is just change the credit card number. In other words, it still has all of the old transactions, and as such can just be the same as the old account. In general (Steps I would use on Quicken Windows) I would deactivate the old account for downloading, and then select Add Account, but then link it to the existing Quicken account.

    Hello @Geo H,

The process @Chris_QPW suggested is typically the best way to update your Quicken file to see the new card number. It is always a good idea to backup your Quicken file prior to deactivating the account. For instructions on backing up your Quicken file, please see this article:

Once you have backed up your file, you will want to deactivate the credit card account that now has a new card number. Please follow the directions in this article to deactivate the account:

To reconnect the account, go to Accounts>Add Account… and follow the prompts. Since receiving a replacement credit card typically is just a new card number associated with the existing account, you may want to link to the existing account rather than adding as new.

If you need to update the account name after you've linked it in your Quicken file, you can do so by clicking on the account to select it, then going to Accounts>Settings…, putting the new name in the Account Name field, then clicking Done.

If you prefer to add the account as new, you can do so, but be aware that you may end up with some duplicate transactions (transactions that already downloaded into the old account redownloading into the new account).

    I hope this helps!

I recently had a Barclay Bank account experience a fraudulent transaction. They sent a new card.

I just deactivated that account, in Q, from download and Reactivated with the new account number. After all, to me, it's all one acct.
