Alerts Disappear When Bill & Income Reminders are Entered

I previously reported an issue with bond maturity alerts occasionally disappearing. My previous post (20457436) has been closed, but I've discovered that the issue arises whenever I enter a Bill or Income Reminder from the home page.

I've done everything that Jasmine suggested and reloaded Quicken, yet this continues to happen on multiple DAT files.

As I mentioned before, the "Show Alerts" check box remains checked, but I've discovered that each time I enter a reminder the alerts disappear and i must re-highlight the check box, and they come back.

This is obviously a programming issue where alerts are updated whenever a bill or income reminder is entered. For some reason, bond maturity alerts are no longer shown.

It's not a huge issue and it's easy to correct, but there is definitely a programming issue that needs to be addressed if Quicken wants to continue to be the primary money management tool for most Americans. The more work Quicken users have to do to correct Quicken problems, the less reliable it becomes it's more likely that folks will abandon Quicken for alternatives (of which there are few) for their needs. Hello @bizbuyer,

To assist with this issue, I looked up the previous discussion you referred to. Based on what I see in that previous discussion, it appears that you have already tried uninstalling/reinstalling the program and also tried Validating/Super Validating your file.

You mentioned this has been going on for several Quicken updates. About how long has the issue been happening? Is this issue happening with any other alerts, or just the bond maturity alerts? While file specific issues are less likely across multiple data files, if you haven't already done so, please try restoring a backup from before the issue started for one of the impacted files and test to see if the issue is resolved in that newly restored file.

Please let me know how it goes!

    Thanks, Kristina!

I have already done the things you mentioned except restore the backup. The issue has been going on for quite a while. I'll restore some old backups to see if I can find when it started.

I'll try to do the testing this week but with Christmas coming up things are hectic. Please keep this open until I respond, which I'll do as quickly as possible. Thanks!

    Hi Kristina!

Bond maturity alerts are the only alerts I have set up so I can't comment on whether other alerts are affected.

I went through my available backups. As of 5/2/24 the alerts were not disappearing when reminders were entered. On my next available backup on 9/7/24 the alerts WERE disappearing. I'm missing backups between those two dates so I can't pinpoint exactly when the problem began.

I tested the 9/7 backup to see how the alerts behaved if I included scheduled bills and deposits. In that case, the alerts DIDN'T disappear when entering reminders. Once I removed those from alerts, the bond maturity alerts disappear again whenever a reminder is entered.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Hello @bizbuyer,

Thank you for following up with additional details.

I know you mentioned in your previous discussion that you would try uninstalling and reinstalling Quicken. However, can we ask you to try that once more excep this time, after you have uninstalled and before you proceed with reinstalling, please open your Windows File Explorer and navigate to This PC > C: Drive > Program Files (x86) and delete the folder titled "Quicken" (doing so does not affect your data files).

After you have deleted this folder, go ahead and try reinstalling.

Let us know how it goes!

    Hi Anja!

I uninstalled Quicken, deleted the Quicken folder under Program Files (x86), and reinstalled Quicken. The alerts are still acting as they did in my December 18 post above. I can accept including "Scheduled Bills and Deposits Due Soon" in the alerts to keep them from disappearing so I guess you can close this discussion.

Thanks for your and Kristina's assistance in helping me discover an acceptable solution!

Thanks for the update! I'm glad to hear that including the "Scheduled Bills and Deposits Due Soon" in Alerts is an acceptable solution for you.

If you decide later on to pursue this further without including that, please don't hesitate to reach back out! Thank you.
