Syncing to Cloud

Hello - new user of Quicken Classic Deluxe on Mac here and was wondering if there is a way to set the program to automatically sync to mobile on a time interval rather than just when the program is closed or you manually kick it off. This would be helpful to someone who tends to keep the program running all the time but his wife only views activity on the mobile app. Thanks in advance for any feedback..

    Hello @FatPapawKY,

Unfortunately, this is not a feature that is offered with Quicken for Mac at this time. To request this feature to be added in the future, what you can do is create an idea post. This way other users who have the same or a similar request can vote on your idea. Our Development and Product teams frequently use our idea posts in order to improve Quicken and implement new features requested by customers.

    I hope this helps!

First, I don't recommend leaving the program running at all times. This takes away the automated backups Quicken makes when you quit. (You can, of course, do a manual Save Backup command at any time. The advantage of the automated backups is that you can set it to keep the most recent 25 or 50 backups, and it will automatically delete older ones; if you rely on manual backups, you have to visit the backup folder periodically to do that housecleaning.) Also, some programs gradually consume more memory over time, so restarting them restores them to a stable state; I don't think this is an issue with Quicken Mac, but I still prefer to quit and re-launch the program between uses, or at least most times.

Now, to your question: there is a "Sync to Mobile" command on the Accounts menu (shortcut: Control-S). That should accomplish what you want. But there is no way to have it run on a timed schedule. (Also note that if you click the Update All Accounts button in the sidebar, that will also do a Sync in addition to downloading transactions for your accounts.)

Finally, just a note of warning: there are periodic user reports of data which is modified (categorizations ro other edits lost, or transactions added or deleted) which appear to be issues with the sync between desktop files and Quicken Mobile servers. For this reason, I personally choose not to use Sync so that my desktop data is not duplicated in Quicken Cloud. Most of the longtime SuperUsers here do the same. I'm not advising you to discontinue using Quicken Cloud, and I certainly appreciate its usefulness in a number of usage situations; I'm just making you aware this is a known area of problems in Quicken's ecosystem. There are certainly many users who have used the mobile Sync for years and have not experienced problems. If you decide to use Sync, all the more reason to make sure you are generating frequent backups (and keeping a decently long history of them) in case something goes wrong.
