When I download transactions in my file for my bank account, most everything is correct except for some reason a check I wrote is being shown as a deposit not a debit and when I delete the transaction manually it then deletes the amount from my opening balance and reduces the overall totals by same it seems to just be the one transaction not sure where to start

    Hello @Markhfx,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention!

When did you first notice this issue occur? Did anything significant occur before it happened (i.e.: installed a new update, sync to Quicken Cloud, etc)? Was this transaction downloaded this way, or was this a manually entered transaction that then changed from a payment to a deposit after downloading new transactions?

Also, could you please tell us where your data file is stored on your computer? Is it saved in a folder located on your local hard drive (C: drive) or in a cloud-based/external drive (e.g.: OneDrive, Dropbox, USB, etc)?

Last, could you please provide a screenshot of what you are seeing? If needed, please refer to this Community FAQ for instructions on how to attach a screenshot. Alternatively, you can also drag and drop screenshots if you are not given the option to add attachments.

Check bank and let us know! Thank you.

    Hello,

This issue first happened yesterday, nothing significant to my knowledge as Quicken was already up to date. Version R60.18 Build 27.1.60.18, I had previously entered the check and it correctly debited my account within quicken and the error showed up when I went to do a reconcile. I made backups of my Quicken File, ran a validate and repair (no errors) I tried several things including manually deleting the transaction before accepting it and as soon as I did that the opening balance would change…. The file is on the local computer. I gave up and manually reconciled after the date of the check in order to move on so I can not recreate the scenario….

I have experienced the problem with Quicken inadvertently changing an opening balance on several occasions. It seems to happen in relation to updates to the Quicken application, but I haven't been able to identify "repeatable conditions" beyond the relationship to updates. I have had this happen several times over a period of many years. I regret that I don't have any advice on this matter other than acknowledging that I've encountered the same/similar issue.

I've seen several posts on this matter in the Community over the years. If you search on "opening balance" I expect you'll find some of those discussions. That being said, no one seems to know the full set of conditions that allow this issue to be force repeated.
