Can you hide parent categories (ie: not show the full path)

I swear, the categories used to be shortened, to only see like "Dining & Groceries" for instance.

Now, the categories show the entire path (ie: Entertainment:Shopping:Personal Care:Health & Fitness:Kids:Food & Dining). It's very messy and takes up far more screen space than necessary.

I've search in preferences but I see no way to change this. Is there a way? Please say there is and I'm just missing something.

Thank you.

    Hello @ForzaBlue,

I apologize for any inconvenience and frustration the lack of this feature may cause.

The option to hide parent categories in the register is available in Quicken Classic for Mac, but not Quicken Classic for Windows. However, if you wish to request this feature to be added in the future, what you can do is create an idea post. This way other users who have the same or a similar request can vote on your idea.

Our Development and Product teams frequently use our idea posts in order to improve Quicken and implement new features requested by customers.

    I hope this helps!

Where, specifically, do you want to see only the lowest level?

Everywhere if possible. In the register view, reports…etc... I'd prefer to never, ever, see the entire path.

This is not possible. Nor, in my opinion, is it desirable. Your use of 5 subcategories is unusual and doesn't make sense to me. If you "never, ever" want to see the intermediate categories, why have them? You could just make the categories you want to see into top-level categories.

Or consider an alternate scheme, which I happen to use.

Home:Maintenance covers costs of expected wear & tear.

Home:Repairs covers cost of things which break and need to be fixed or replaced.

So I have Home:Maintenance:Lighting which covers burned out light bulbs, and Home:Repairs:Lighting which covers fixtures which broke and had to be replaced.

In your scheme, both of these would show as "Lighting", leaving out the supercategories. How would Quicken do that in reports? Two separate lines saying just "Lighting"? Not informative.

I guess we just have different definitions of "desirable".

It's inexcusable to have a 100+ character category column that you cannot truncate. I did not create these categories. These are all defaults. It's unwieldly to say the least.

Also, just we're clear, I am referring to the horrible Quicken Classic desktop client. Not the web version, which does not exhibit this anomaly. Perhaps that's my problem.
