"Everything Else" in Budget reports

Quicken Windows Subscription Member ✭✭

After the most recent update, this issue appeared. Even though I have not budgeted for this category nor are there any expenses, this "everything else" line is showing up in my budget reports with zero in actuals, but a budgeted amount that seemingly is coming from nowhere. I confirmed it was not in the budget report before the recent update.

Hello @GTmem,

Thank you for sharing the issue you're encountering. You mentioned this started after the last update. About how long ago was that?

Is "everything else" also visible in your budget, or is it showing up only in budget reports? When you click the gear icon near the upper right of the report to customize it, what options do you see on the Advanced tab?

Does adjusting the options under Categories or Subcategories remove the unwanted information?

I look forward to your response!

I have the exact same issue.

Adjusting the options under Categories or Subcategories does not remove the unwanted information

Well, I haven't seen anything about this in the release notes, but they certainly have added it recently.

One of the outstanding complaints with the budgets/reports are the inconsistencies between them.

The "Everything Else" is one of these inconsistencies, reminders not included on reports are another.

So, now they have added "Everything Else" to reports.

With "Everything Else" they are inconsistent between the Graph View and the Annual View in what it shows and when it shows up, and it looks like they took the approach of the Graph View. And like the Graph View, didn't provide any way to turn it off (which is also an ongoing complaint about the Graph View).

It can't be turned off in the Category list because it isn't a category. If you look at it, you will notice that the Amount is bold (not blue) because there aren't any transactions associated with it. It is literally "Everything Else" as in it is showing you the total of transactions that are in categories that you have not budgeted. This can be a "nice warning" if one intended to budget all of their categories/transactions but just forgot some, but when that isn't the intent, you have this number in your report that you don't want.

I also notice an inconsistency even with the Graph View, the Graph View not only gives the total, but it also shows the categories that weren't budgeted.

This happened during fridays update to US Version R61.17, Build 27.1.61.17. The amounts in the Everything Else row is not included in the Category Subtotals, nor the totals. Its just an extraneous line. Interestingly, the amount shown as budget, is the sum of other items within the same category

Kristina… to answer your question, this shows up in the "budgeted only" view of the Budget report. It goes away in the "non-zero Actual/Budget" view, which makes sense since I did not budget for this and did not have any unassigned actuals. the issue only shows in the Budget report, not in Budget Planning (its listed, but zeroed out)

I am experiencing the same thing as of the latest update (Version R61.17, Build 27.1.61.17). Looking forward to a fix.

Experiencing the same thing after the latest update. However, in my reporting situation, it is not going away in the "Non-zero-Actual/Budget" view.

Hello @jagshead,

Thank you for sharing your experience. To clarify, is it not going away because there are values other than 0 showing in Everything Else?

I look forward to your response!

There are both zero values and numeric values showing in the "Everything Else" category regardless of whether or not I select Budgeted Values or Non-zero Actual/Budget. The Everything Else category in some instances is adding the totals of prior categories together.

Thank you for your reply,

If you're willing, would you please provide a screenshot of what you're seeing (please redact any personal information)? If needed, please refer to this Community FAQ for instructions on how to attach a screenshot. Alternatively, you can also drag and drop screenshots to your response if you are not given the option to add attachments.

If you're not comfortable posting a screenshot in this discussion, you could also send it using Help>Report a Problem.

I am also having the issue.

The highlighted categories on page 1 of the attached is an example of what is occurring. The report is adding the totals of the two categories above it and classifying it as Everything Else.

I am also experiencing this

Ditto here since the latest update. It is very annoying in the reports and makes them very confusing. Please fix as soon as possible.

Same problem here, both in income and expenses - neither of which are budgeted nor transacted. R61.17, Build 27.1.61.17

• Member ✭✭

I have same problem, It has been well described above

1. Doesn't seem to impact the total Income or Expense values
2. Only appears in the budgeted column, not actual
3. Is the negative of the sum of the sub-grouped items. Example: Grouped Items = $9500, Everything else in that category group is -9500

I have the same issue, just noticed it today.

Here's a summary:

• New categories called "Everything Else" started appearing in budget vs actual report (see attached screen shot of Excel export)
• These categories are not in the budget under the planning tab
• These categories have budget amounts but no actual expenses
• The budgeted amounts are NOT included in the total in the budget vs actual report.

I hope this helps the developers find and fix this bug. I have also submitted a problem report.

• Quicken Windows Subscription Member ✭✭✭

I am experiencing this problem also, it began happening sometime in February, as I did not have this issue after running a budget report after the end of January. I can't make the problem go away by adjusting the advanced settings in the report options.

• Quicken Windows Subscription Member ✭✭✭

I seem to have found a partial workaround for this issue. If you use subcategorie, like I do, if you go to the budget and then select "Manage Budget Categories", you will see that there are subcategories called "Other". I don't use the Other categories, so they were unselected. I went through and selected most of the Other categories, and when I ran a budget report, I didn't see the issue of the "Everything Else" category showing up under some of the budgeted categories.

It still seems like a bug that needs to be fixed.

• Quicken Windows Subscription Member

Me too! Noticed it a few days ago. Was going to attempt a restore from a backup but decided to do a quick google before going thru the trouble. Sure enough, found this thread. Exact same issue. I really dread when updates to Quicken download. Please fix.

• Quicken Windows Subscription Member ✭✭

Just as everyone else here, I am experiencing this too. It seems to have appeared in the last couple of patches. Not sure what change was made, but it broke the reports. I do not want $0 items showing up on my reports. Since I have this set as such I would think these would not show up. It is not showing up for every category, but for most.

An ETA on the fix for this would be great.

Thank you

Googled this issue and came across this thread. Having the same issue. I thought it was me…

This needs to be fixed. Found the same problem today when looking at the current month budget report. Problem did not exist in January. I save all my year end reports; they were good when saved, but now have the same Everything Else problem.

My personal situation, already tried this, did not work.

• Quicken Windows Subscription Member ✭✭

I reported this "Everything Else" issue through the Quicken app. The issue started for me with the US Version R61.17, Build 27.1.61.17 release. Prior to this release the "Everting Elese" entry did not appear in the report. After the release update, even saved reports showed the "Everything Else" category. Very frustrating that Quicken changes saved reports. Not a happy customer here.
