assigning categories to downloaded transactions

Can these two items be "fixed" ?

When my transactions are downloaded I go and assign categories (the auto is too unreliable)

(i) If I inadvertently click the row below while completing this task, my efforts up to that point are lost and I have to start again. That is contrasted to if I go into a saved transaction to modify it, and click away, I am asked is I want to save the change. Why can't this be done on new entries ?

(ii) Can the suggested Category assignment be improved to take account of more than just the payee, but also (for example) the amount, day oor month, anything else ? To take one example, I may have several different monthly payments to Apple for different services (Icloud+, Apple TV, Disney+, whatever). It always comes up with just one suggestion which is good for one of these (whichever got logged in the system), but no good for others. I can't beklkieve it is too difficult to broaden the criteria being reviewed in order to improve this functionality

    Hello @UlyssesPM,

Thank you for letting us know you're encountering these problems. To assist with this, please provide more information. Could you please provide more detail on the exact process you are going through where Quicken forgets your modifications if you accidentally click the wrong spot?

For the second issue you bring up, creating memorized payees may help. For more information on memorized payees, please review this help article: https://info.quicken.com/win/saving-time-with-memorized-payees

I look forward to your reply!

Another way to get Quicken to assign the proper Categories to downloaded transactions, especially if they are for the same amount each month, is to use Reminders.

For example, if your Disney+ is 12.95 per month and it usually downloads on the 14th, you can create a monthly Reminder for your credit card account, $12.95, and a date a few days [correction] before the usual download date. You can set the Reminder to auto enter on the download date. When the transaction downloads, Quicken will use the account, date, and amount to match it to the transaction that is already in your register. You can decide whether or not you want to see future Reminders in your register.

Reminders also control Quicken's Projected Balances chart, which will predict future balances for your spending accounts.

In regard to the fundamental question, your bank has no idea what your categories are. E. G., is "Groceries" a primary category, or a sub-cat of your "Household Expense" category?

It also can't know if your split your grocery download into Grocery vs. Pharmacy vs Sales Tax vs Household Expense (pots & pans).

SO, it suggested that you manually input your purchases shortly after they happen … so that when Q downloads them you get the categories that YOU want.
