too many steps!

For the past week, when I update my accounts I have to sign in to Quicken.com and type in a security code sent to my phone. This is after I use my password to my Quicken app and before I use my update accounts password. I want to skip those middle steps and just use my passwords…which I have been doing for many years. Is there a button I can click to eliminate the middle two steps.

Thank you.

When you update your accounts on what device? You phone? The Web? Your Q desktop?

Please elaborate upon what you're doing.

Sorry about the lack of details. I am using a Windows 11 computer. The program, Quicken Classic, and my files are stored on the computer, with a file backed up on DropBox every three days.

I use a password to open the account. Then…before last week…I would simply click the update accounts icon and enter another password. Now, when I click the update icon, I have to enter my Quicken.com password and then the passcode that is sent to my phone. After those I can then enter my update password. I want to go back to just the two steps, not four. I hope that clarifies my situation.

Thank you for responding so quickly.

Which financial institution, and what is the connection type for the account(s) that you are downloading?

Note when using Express Web Connect you are asking the Intuit servers to log into the financial institution's website for you. All of the security measures that apply to you logging into their website apply to Express Web Connect too. So, if your financial institution (or you) just forced requiring authorization from your phone, that applies to Express Web Connect too. On the password, normally it is stored on the Intuit server and therefore doesn't have to be re-entered, but again that might be changed if multiple factor authentication is used.

Note that if the connection type is Direct Connect or Express Web Connect + this doesn't apply because these have their own protocol and aren't "logging in as the user to their website".

EDIT Now that I see other people‘s comments, I agree with them. This isn’t about the financial institution. Sorry.

Or is this a matter of you being prompted to enter your Quicken ID and PW before OSU will start?

If so, that sounds to me like perhaps your data file's Cloud Account needs to be refreshed. What normally works for this is to go to Edit > Preferences > Quicken ID & Cloud Account > Sign in as a different user > follow the prompts to sign out > when prompted, sign back in with your CURRENT Quicken ID and PW.

Let us know if this resolved the issue for you. If not, there are a couple of other things that can be done that can help to resolve this issue.

I would try logging off of the Quicken account and logging back in to refresh your Quicken authentication.

It is now working properly. I did log out and log back in, but I also discovered that after I increased the memory for my One Drive, last week, the Quicken files were moved from my computer to One Drive (I don't remember being notified that would happen!). The Quicken files are now on my computer, not in the "cloud." Whichever worked, thank you…all…for the suggestions.
