In my portfolio register, return % Year to Date shows nothing for all my securities. The dollar amount is shown correctly, but the next column—Return % year to date all empty?
Hello @Gary R,
We appreciate you taking the time to bring this to our attention!
To further investigate, we will need to gather some additional details:
Check back and let us know! Thank you.
This has been going on for a very long time. Quicken is updated with the latest version. I can get ROI(%) YTD numbers, but Return (%) YTD nothing
Data File-Quicken-Desktop-4mmk5gq-2025-01-17-Am09-47
No troubleshooting—no clue
Return (%) YTD data is downloaded from Quicken's quote provider and is not based on your transactions.
Unfortunately it is generally missing for ETFs, and often out of date for other securities. If you want Quicken to fix this, you would have to raise the issue with Customer Support. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a fix. Please see this discussion and many others for more info.
This is ridiculous! That was a 2022 post. Why is so difficult to fix this?
Geez—-Every investment site shows % returns by periods for ETF'S, CEF's, and all securities
I agree it has been broken for a long time.
As I am sure you know, if you have identified an actual problem with Quicken and not something to do with your data, you generally must convince a Moderator or Support that it is an actual bug and get them to open a ticket or assign it a CTP number before anyone will work on resolving it. Using the Help > Report a problem link with a very clear, reproducible explanation of the problem also helps, but that is not sufficient.
There are numerous reports of this issue but I have not seen any indication that it is being worked on. Here is another related discussion
BTW, the downloaded data, when it is present and up to date, assumes that all dividends and other distributions are reinvested. The data is always as of today (or yesterday for mutual funds) and like all the other downloaded quote data except for share prices, Quicken does not keep any history, so the data does not change if you change the As of date.
Quicken's ROI (%) YTD numbers may be what you are looking for, but note that this number may be misleading if there have been partial sales during the year.
As we have discussed in the past, I find that the Avg Annual Return (%) numbers are Quicken's best and most reliable indication of performance, but they are most meaningful for periods of one year or more. If you want year to date performance, use the Investment Performance Report and set the period to Yearly and Current year.
Hello @Gary R & @Jim_Harman,
Does this happen only with ETFs, or are there other funds you see this happen with also?
When I check, I'm not seeing any open tickets for this issue, although if this is happening exclusively with holdings you purchased after the beginning of the year, this article may explain what's happening:
I look forward to your response!
There are actually two related issues. These have been going on for several years.
1 For some publicly traded securities, particularly ETFs, the Return (%) XXX data is missing, i.e. blank.
2. For other securities, including most stocks and mutual funds, the data is always present but there have been reports (none recently that I am aware of) that the data is sometimes several weeks out of date.
Of course for non-publicly traded securities, the quote provider has no data.
It's all my ETF'S and CEF'S——-Nothing
Stocks——YTD returns are showing and correct so far this year
Gary, to avoid confusing those who are researching this issue and/or trying to help, we need to remain crystal clear about what issue we are discussing here. It is "Return (%) YTD" and other time periods, not "YTD Returns" or any other similarly named column in the Portfolio views.
One more related issue I see with this data is that for Indexes, or if you do not currently hold the security but it is on the Watch List, or if you currently hold the security but did not hold it at the start of the period, the Return (%) XXX columns show "N/A". Because this is downloaded data and not dependent on your transactions, I think it would be more useful if it showed the data, especially for the Watch List and Indexes. This is a Quicken issue and not an issue with the downloaded data.
It's Return (%) YTD———That was what I showed on the screenshot included
I only had two stock buys this year and N/A shows —-as you mentioned.
Thank you for your replies,

When does a Quicken moderator decide to comment and weigh in on a post?
I started a topic last week concerning transferring shares between Vanguard and Fidelty and only received comments from subscribers.
