Report:Banking:Transactions is broken

The last several weeks, the Report:Banking:Transaction report has been broken. It is showing about 1/2 to 2/3 of the actual transactions. I have used this report for years and in the past, it was rock-solid, but lately, it is completely unreliable. I have played around with the configurations and have found a few times where I can make all the transactions appear (like adding the category I have already selected in the "Matching" filter also), but if the configuration has multiple categories, this of course would not work. It seems that the "easy answer" is still working, just not selecting Reports:Banking:Transaction and then doing a configuration.
Example: I select Report:Banking:Transactions, then go to customize. I clear all categories and select a single category: Due From:David. I get the first report that shows 10 transactions. Then I customize again and this time add "Due From:David" to the Matching Category filter and then it showed all 20 transactions. So, asking for all the Due From:David transactions with just this category selected "missed" 10 actual transactions. This has GOT TO BE FIXED!! Having inaccurate reports is dangerous and must be corrected.

Hello @bmbass,
We appreciate you reaching out to let us know about this issue, and understand how frustrating this must be!
I attempted to replicate the issue, but was not able to do so, so I will need to gather some additional details to further investigate.
- Where is your Quicken data file stored? Is it on your local hard drive (C: Drive) or a cloud-based/external drive (e.g.: OneDrive, DropBox, USB, etc.)?
- Have you attempted any troubleshooting steps so far? If so, what were they?
- When did this issue first start occurring?
- Does this happen with specific categories or with any/all categories?
- Were there any significant changes to your system or software before the issue began (updates, new installations, etc.)?
Additionally, could you please provide screenshots of what you are seeing? If needed, please refer to this Community FAQ for instructions on how to attach screenshots. Alternatively, you can also drag and drop screenshots to your response if you are not given the option to add attachments.
Please check back and let us know—we’ll be happy to continue digging into this with you!

Thanks Anja for the reply, sorry, I have been out on vacation and have not been able to reply until today. First, to answer your questions:
- Data file is stored on a local hard drive
- I have done Validate File and Super Validate File and neither helped
- I first noticed this when I was doing my taxes (Ouch!) back in February / March
- I have played around and this is happening with "any" category, but I have determined the problem is associated with SPLIT transactions (more below)
- I have done typical Windows Updates and Quicken Updates, but nothing else
I will now describe the attached files: Initial Configuration is where I "Clear All" Categories and then only select one (Due From:David) and press OK.
Here is the resulting report:
Then, I re-configure the report and this time I add "Due From:David" to the "Matching" filter:
And the resulting report:
Notice many more transactions in this new report. I have compared the two reports and the first one is missing all the Discover Credit Card and CFCU GoGreen Checking transactions (one credit card, one checking account). BUT, what is unique about these transactions are they are part of a SPLIT transaction! The first Discover shown is one of 3 "splits" for this entry (Storage Shed split 3 ways). So, when one of the 3 entries for this transaction is assigned to Due From:David, it is being "missed" in the initial report. All the other missing entries have the same characteristics: one is Due From:David and the other entries are some other category.
However, it gets worse: To check to see if this only happened with Due From:David category, I tried two more reports, this time Home:Home Purchases. The first one shows several transactions:
But the second one (where I added the Matching filter of Home:Home Purchases) shows more/different transactions:
Notice again that the problems are associated with SPLIT transactions, but this time the initial list shows one item for the split (i.e. JoAnn on 2/27/2025) of -51.14, but the "correct" report shows 5 items for this purchase and the sum of these 5 items is NOT -51.14!
So, in some cases, SPLITs are being ignored completely and in the other cases, the entire purchase is being contributed to a category when only part of the items are really assigned to that category. BUT, in all cases, the problems are associated with SPLIT transactions.
I have also noticed that the order of the SPLIT transactions is what controls which mistake happens: If the first item in the SPLIT list is the requested category, then the initial report assigns the ENTIRE purchase to that category (even though not all items are assigned to the requested category), but if the first item in the SPLIT list is some other category, then the entire purchase is skipped.
As can be seen from the above examples, this is a DANGEROUS situation where reports are just WRONG and can not be relied on anymore and this set of bugs has got to be fixed SOON!

@bmbass - Go to Edit > Preferences > Easy Access. If either of the boxes are checked, uncheck them and click on OK. Then pull a new report and try customizing it, again. Let us know whether or not the issue still exists.

Both boxes were checked, so I unchecked them and shut down Quicken and Reopened it. Checked to make sure both were still unchecked (which they were), but BOTH problems still exist: Skipping SPLITs where the desired category was not first in the list and attributing the ENTIRE purchase to the desired category when that category is first in a SPLIT.
BTW: There is another bug when both of these boxes are unchecked where Quicken will add a BUNCH of unrelated categories to the selected list if you go back into the configuration of Categories a 2nd time (but let's solve this first problem before chasing this one).

I see you are looking at the Transactions report. The Transactions report is designed to report on the transaction level and maybe it doesn't do that well with split categories? I don't know but I can say that I have not been able to replicate the issue you are describing.
Have you tried using the Itemized Categories report to see if that gets you the detail that you would like to see?
Regarding unrelated categories now showing up in the Customization popup: I am assuming you are referring to the categories what are enclosed in parenthesis. If this is the case, uncheck the box for Show Hidden Categories. Hidden categories are identified by enclosing them in parenthesis.

Thanks for the reply. When I selected the Itemized Categories report, it does show all the items I was expecting. However, I have used the Transaction Report for YEARS and I do not believe it has had this bug all these years and I am just now noticing it. Also, given the report CORRECTLY shows all the transactions if I go back and add the exact same category to the Matching Filter (which should be redundant), says there is a BUG in the code that needs correcting.
As far as the "hidden categories" selection, it is true the BUG is selecting these categories, but the radio button says SHOW, not SELECT. All I have to do to hit this bug is:
Customize a report (where the early access is NOT selected)
Clear All Categories
Select one Category
Select OK to show the Report
Now, assume you want to add one additional Category to the Report and Re-Customize it
Go to Categories and select your second category
Select OK to show the Report
Your new report will now contain your two selected categories PLUS all the "mistakenly selected" hidden categories that the bug is selecting all on its own. You can actually see all those categories selected if you scroll through the list after going into the Categories customization the second time. This BUG does not occur if you have the Early Access turned on.0 -
I'm glad that the Itemized Categories report gets you what you need.
I don't think the Transactions report has a bug (which means there is something in the design that is causing the issue). If it was a bug then we'd be seeing reports from others saying they are seeing the same issue and I have not seen any such reports. Nor have I been able to duplicate the issue you are seeing.
More likely, I think, is that there is a corruption of some sort in your Transactions report. A corruption is an issue that is not caused by the design. Instead, something in the code or the data file "broke" so it no longer functions the way it is supposed to.
Is the Transactions report you are seeing this with a customized report that you have saved to My Saved Reports?
I have experienced customized saved reports sometimes (not very often) getting corrupted. When that happens it generally cannot be fixed and the only solution is to pull a new default report, customize it and then save it (it can be saved right over the corrupted report which it will then replace).
If this issue is not with a customized saved report but with a default report:
Have you tried File > Validate and Repair file? This can fix many data issues and can even fix some software issues.
It is also possible that your last software update might not have installed completely or properly. You might want to try downloading the latest Manual Patch Update File and installing that over your current installation. You can download this file from
.If that doesn't fix the issue for you, then you might want to consider uninstalling Quicken and then download a fresh copy of the complete program and install that. You can download the complete program from your online Quicken.com account or from

I REALLY APPRECIATE you helping me with this problem, but I think you are incorrect about there being a software bug in the Transaction Report software. Here are two new reports, from a DIFFERENT computer, therefore a DIFFERENT Quicken install, and using a DIFFERENT database:
Both of these reports were generated by going to the top of the screen, selecting REPORTS, then BANKING, then TRANSACTION, then pressing the Customize Report icon, and changing the dates to appropriate values, selecting the CATEGORIES tab, pressing the CLEAR ALL button, then selecting the Home Purchases category and then pressing OK. So, these were brand new reports generated on the fly using the current Quicken software.
The ONLY change in the second report is I went back into Customize Report and typed "Home Purchases" into the "Matching" and "Category:" fields and pressed OK.
Notice an entry in the first report:
2/24/2022 Discover Card, Ace Hardware, Split, $43.95
This same entry in the 2nd report shows:
2/24/2022 Discover Card, Ace Hardware, AA Lithium Batteries, $17.15
The full transaction for this purchase had the Lithium Batteries (as the first entry in the split) and a 2nd item with a different category. The first report INCORRECTLY said that $43.95 was accounted to Home Purchases, but the 2nd report CORRECTLY shows only $17.15 should have been accounted to Home Purchases.
Now notice a 2nd entry (missing in the first report, but present in the 2nd one):
2/25/2022 Sharen's Chase VISA, Dollar Tree, Easter Welcome Circle, $1.34
This transaction is NOT even shown in the first report, but only in the 2nd one. This full transaction has the Easter Welcome Circle item as the second entry in the SPLIT and some other category as the first item. The first report IGNORES the Home Purchases made and the 2nd report CORRECTLY lists the $1.34 Home Purchase.
So, two different computers, two different Quicken installs, two different databases, but the same behavior in the Quicken newly generated report. I will build a new database this afternoon and verify it also has the same problems with Transaction Reports.
So, given the above, don't you agree there is some software bug that needs correcting? Try again to recreate this problem given this additional information and see if you don't see the same behavior.

I'm not prepared, yet, to call this issue you are experiencing a software bug. The main reasons for this is that I am not seeing others posting about this issue and I am not able to replicate it. If this were a bug we would likely be seeing others posting about it and I should be able to replicate the issue.
This does not appear to be a report error. You changed the customization settings so the parameters of the reports are different from each other. As I understand it, the first report shows the total of the split transaction because one of the splits contained that customization filter. But in the 2nd report you added a 2nd filtering criteria which then eliminated the split that did not meet that criteria.
Does this missing transaction in the 1st report show up in Chase Visa account register?
Is it categorized exactly the same in both files?
Data file or installation corruption issues are far more commonplace than are actual installed software bugs. And if this was a software bug, then the Quicken team would need to be able to replicate the issue in order to find out what might be the root cause. If they can't identify the root cause, then they will not be able to fix it.
How did you create the database on the 1st computer vs. the 2nd computer?
- Did you create them as an entirely new Quicken data file from scratch?
- Was one a Windows copy of the other?
- Was one a restored backup file of the other?
- Did you save one data file or a backup of that data file on a Cloud storage site or on a network drive and then download that file to the other computer?
Another question: Did you do any of the troubleshooting steps I mentioned in my last post? What was the result?

I will try to address your comments/concerns:
- Others not posting about this problem: This is the BIGGEST of all the problems. People ask for a report to be generated and assume it will be ACCURATE. I just got lucky to realize one of the reports I was doing didn't contain a recent transaction I had done and I went looking for it. Since the reports are both "skipping" matching transactions and also calculating incorrect values for split transactions, this is very concerning to me and should be to others because it makes ALL Quicken Reports suspect and unreliable. I believe people are generating false reports and never realize it.
- …and I am not able to replicate it: I created a new Quicken File and added one checking account. I then added 3 store purchases on 3 different dates:
- 5/9/25 Store#3, SPLIT: Home:Lawn & Garden for $35; Home:Home Improvement for $15
- 5/10/25 Store#2, SPLIT: Home:Home Improvement for $50; Home:Home Supplies for $25
- 5/12/25 Store#1, Home:Home Improvement for $100
- When you run a report of Home:Home Improvement you would expect to have 3 items of $15, $50, and $100, but what you get instead is:
- Reports>Banking>Transaction>Customize>Categories>Clear All>Scroll to only select Home:Home Improvement>OK
So, only two entries and a total value of $175.00!
One was completely skipped and the other one showed the TOTAL value of the purchase instead of just the Home Improvement part. I believe you can now recreate this set of bugs using the above information.
Now, If I go and customize this same report, by asking the software to limit my Matches to only include Home:Home Improvement (which is the ONLY category I have selected already and therefore is really redundant), I get a "correct" report:
3 Entries and a total of $165. Notice this is STILL a transaction report and adding the "matching" category really should not have mattered since all I asked to be matched was the ONLY category that was ALREADY being selected.
- This does not seem to be a report error: I disagree. The only "change" was to ask for matching categories to be shown that EXACTLY match the only category I has selected (just like above). Selecting Home:Home Improvement from the list of categories and then REDUNDANTLY asking to "match" Home:Home Improvement should not really change anything.
- As I understand it, the first report shows the total of the split transaction because one of the splits contained that customization filter: I do not agree it is correct to show the TOTAL of a SPLIT entry when asking for transactions of a given category. Notice, the above TRANSACTION report (the last one) is only showing the Home:Home Improvement transactions and not the SPLIT totals. These reports have worked correctly in the past and giving misleading/incorrect totals is DANGEROUS.
- Does this missing transaction in the 1st report show up in Chase Visa account register? Yes, just like the missing Store#3 transaction in my fake checking account above.
- Is it categorized exactly the same in both files? This question I don't understand. This is one Quicken File, with a set of entries and I ran two different REPORTS against this file. The only difference between the two reports was the "matching" category addition for the 2nd report.
- If this were a software bug / Quicken team would need to replicate it: I believe the above new Quicken File with three purchases should allow them to replicate the bug and debug the problems.
- How did you create the database on the 1st / 2nd computer: The second database is my old quicken file that goes up through 2022. It is on a second computer and I keep Quicken updated so I can access older information when needed. The first computer is my current Quicken computer and database that I use daily. It was generated as a new data file back in 2022 because the old database was getting too large.
- Did you create them from scratch: Yes, in both cases
- Was one a Windows copy of the other: No, I created a new Quicken File for the newer database.
- Was one a restored backup of the other: No
- Did you save one data file on the Cloud/Network: No, the data files have always been a local file on a local harddrive.
- Troubleshooting Steps: Validate and Super Validate were done, but no changes. I did not apply the Quicken Patch or the Quicken Install since I was seeing the exact same problem on two different Quicken installs/computers. If you can't recreate the problems using the simple example (one account, 3 purchases), then I will do both of those steps.

Thanks for the posting the clear details of the 3 transactions example and of how you pulled the Transactions report. I can now confirm that I was able to replicate the issue…I got the exact same results as you did.
I, also, now agree that this appears to be a program bug and IMO it is fairly significant. And it does call into question whether this is an issue with just the Transactions report or if it exists in other reports.
Have you reported this to Quicken (Help > Report a Problem)? If not, please do so now. You can reference the URL for this thread if you wish.

I did report it using Report a Problem the same day I opened this discussion, but as usual, have not gotten any feedback from that submission.
How do we now get the Quicken technical team to acknowledge this bug and start working on a fix?
0 -
Using Report a Problem will never result in the submitter getting a response. It says that pretty clearly when the submission is made. The Moderators have stated many times that problems reported are reviewed and acted upon and that's about as good a confirmation we will ever get on this….unless there is an Alert about it posted in this forum.
If you want response from the Quicken team you will need to contact Quicken Support (
). When you talk with them be sure to request a trouble ticket number.Almost always, the best that will happen is that the bug will suddenly disappear with a future version update (I am assuming that fixing of this bug will require a version update).
BTW, I also submitted this bug via Report a Problem.

Anja,
Please make sure the technical team looks at this thread and starts working on the Transaction Report bugs.
I would also like to show how to recreate the other bug discussed on May 11 where Quicken selects all the hidden categories my mistake:
Take the new Quicken File above (one checking account and three purchases) and add a new offline Brokerage account. Add one share to this account (I chose IBM) and then also enter a transaction of Inc-Income and choose a date, IBM and 1.50 in dividends and Enter/Done.
Now go to Edit>Preferences>Early Access and make sure both boxes are UNCHECKED and press OK.
Now Reports>Banking>Transaction and you should get a Transaction Report with all the transactions entered (the three purchases and all the brokerage activity). Now, customize this report, go to Categories, make sure Show (hidden categories) is selected and Clear All and then select only Home:Home Improvements from the list and press OK.
This will update the Report to only show two of the three Home Improvement transactions (skipping Store#3) which is the original bug. Now go back into Customize (as if you wanted to select a 2nd category to be included), select the Categories tab, but now just press OK. You would expect the Report to be the same as before, but you will notice it now includes the _DivInc from the brokerage account even though you never asked this category to be included.
If you go back into Customize/Categories you will see Quicken has selected ALL the hidden categories, so these will be included in your report by MISTAKE even though you never asked for them. This only happens when EARLY ACCESS is off and SHOW (hidden categories) is selected, but it is aggravating to have Quicken mess up your report by including things you never asked for. Quicken selects all the hidden categories if you go back into customize/categories a 2nd time.

Hello @bmbass,
Apologies for the delay in getting back to you. Thank you for submitting the report through Help > Report a Problem and for including references to this thread and the reproduction steps — that’s very helpful.
Just a quick tip for the future: if you tag me directly using @Quicken Anja, it will notify me and ensure I see your message sooner.
I’ll be creating an internal ticket to pass this along to the appropriate team for further investigation. Please note that we don’t have an ETA to share at this time.
Thanks again for bringing this to our attention!

@Boatnmaniac Thank you for submitting a Problem Report! I just attempted to retrieve the logs, but it looks like only one file was attached. Would you mind resubmitting the report?
Really appreciate your help—thank you!

I am traveling (for the next 3-5 wks) and currently do not have access to my laptop so I cannot resend the logs. However, the bug is easily reproduced as mentioned above. I'm not sure what the logs can provide that cannot be provided simply by following the steps spelled out by @bmbass . The issue is very repeatable.
BTW, my access to this Community will be quite hit and miss while I am traveling. So if you have any additional questions or requests my response will likely be delayed some.

Anja,
I have just submitted a Report a Problem of the original error (Transaction Report error) from the small Quicken database created as stated above. I also included the "sanitized data file" as part of this report.
I had already sent in the original Report a Problem on April 29, again on May 13, and on May 14 I sent in the other error where the hidden categories get selected mistakenly. Hopefully one of these 4 reports will provide you the information you need.

Thank you both!
@Boatnmaniac – No worries at all, and definitely no rush. When you're back and able to resend the logs, just let me know, and I’ll retrieve and attach them to the ticket then. Appreciate your help and wishing you safe and enjoyable travels (hopefully for leisure?)!
@bmbass – Got it! I’ve already retrieved and attached your submitted files to the ticket. Thank you for the thorough follow-ups and reports!
