problem with cash account

I have a cash acount that i use to track royalties received. The account list on the front page shows its balance as 0, The register shows the balance as 83.23. If I try to use Update Baslance in the register to set the balance to 0 it does nothing and the balance remains the same as it was.

Also when I try to add a new royalties check I get a message saying that I am trying to record a transfer back into the same account.

How can I fix these issues so the account is usable abain?

Thanx

Also when I try to add a new royalties check I get a message saying that I am trying to record a transfer back into the same account.

You get that message when you use the account's name in square brackets, ( i.e. [checking] ) for the category.

Change the category to the correct income category and that warning message will go away.

Is it possible that you have entered a future dated transaction into your register, one that is not showing in your register because it is either not sorted by Date or filtered to not show future transactions?

If might help us determine the cause if you could show us an image snapshot of the Quicken window showing the issue.

Note the three files I've uploaded. The Royalties acct in investing list.jpg shows the balance of the account as 0. In the account details.jpg file, note that the balance is not 0 and note the transaction I have put in but not entered. Note the category is Royalties. Then when I click to enter the transaction I get the message shown in the message.jpg file.

@jrjmpls from the screen prints you provided, it looks like you have several issues that are easily remedied.

The balance of the account is zero. The 83.23 is a total of the flagged transactions from the prior year. The true account balance shows in the footer of the account register on the right. The balance on the left side is the total of the 14 filtered (flagged) transactions.

I have copied the one of the screen prints you provided here for easy reference -

    1. Click on the green "Reset" button to remove all filters applied to the account register.
    2. Sort the account register by date. Click on the "Date" column header to get the dates to sort in ascending order.
    3. In the "Category" Column, need to fix the categories - "[Royalties]" for Emmaus Energy LLC. to a valid category similar to the other categories you used for the other transactions.
    4. It looks like you are missing quite a few Payees. It's a good idea to have the Payee field filled in for all your transactions.
