Memorized Payee List Not Working After Latest Update

I am running Quicken Classic Deluxe Version R63.21 Build 27.1.63.21. When I attempt to click on Use for a Memorized Payee List entry, it does not update the item I have selected in my checking register. It was working fine before this latest update. Do you have any ideas?

Thanks, Dan

    Hello @dpphippsjr,

    Thanks for reaching out!

    Let’s narrow it down:

    1. Just to confirm — when you click “Use” from the Memorized Payee List, nothing at all happens in the register? No update to the selected transaction, no error, no cursor shift?
    2. Is the transaction you’re trying to update already selected/highlighted in the register before you go to Memorized Payees and hit “Use”? That step is usually required.
    3. Do you have any filters or sorting enabled in the register (like showing only certain dates or categories)? That sometimes causes visual hiccups or misleads the app into thinking nothing is selected.
    4. Can you try right-clicking a different transaction in the register, choosing 'Edit', and then using the Memorized Payee? Just to check if it works during that flow.

Let me know what you find after trying the above, and I’ll keep digging.

    Hello Quicken Jasmine,

1 - Correct, nothing at all happens. The Memorized Payee List stays on the foreground and no updates are seen in the register in the background.

    2- Yes, I have the transaction selected/highlighted.

3- No, I do not have any filters or sorting enabled.

4- I did attempt that and saw it wanted to add a new one, so I cancelled out of that.

    Thanks, Dan

The process you describe appears to be working for me, but for another and I think easier way to use the Memorized Payee List, see this discussion

    Hello Jim,

I only have three MPL entries, so I do not need to use the search payee box. I am not attempting to create a new entry in my register. I have always selected the transaction in the register and then went to the MPL, right clicked on the entry I want to use and click on use. Now when I click on Use, nothing happens.

If you haven't done so already, please do the following actions:

    1. Even if you are on the latest software level already, download and install the latest Manual Patch file from https://www.quicken.com/support/update-and-patch-20182019-release-quicken-windows-subscription-product to ensure your Quicken software is up to date and correctly installed. Your original installation of R 63.21 may have had a problem during installation.
    2. Reboot Windows. Let Windows fully wake up and do whatever it wants to do after booting up … 15 minutes or so.
    3. Start Quicken. Do not run One Step Update.
    4. Run BOTH Validate and Supervalidate to attempt to repair your Quicken data file.
    5. If nothing helps, try to restore your Quicken data file from an Automatic or Manual backup taken just prior to the problems first occurring. https://www.quicken.com/support/how-backup-or-restore-your-quicken-data

    Validate and Supervalidate instructions
First save a backup file prior to performing these steps
    Validate:
    • Click File
    • Select Validate and Repair File...
    • Select Validate File
    • If the data file contains investment accounts also select "Rebuild investing lots".
    • If you suspect that a damaged Quotes Price History causes your problems, also select "Correct investing price history" functions "Delete" or "Repair and Rebuild".
    • Click OK
    • Review the Data Log. Anything interesting in there, worthwhile posting here?
    • Close Quicken, leave it closed for about 30 secs
    • Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.

    Super Validate:
    • Click File
    • Press and hold both CTRL and Shift keys while you click Validate and Repair File...
    • Select Supervalidate File
    • Click OK
    • Review the Data Log. Anything interesting in there, worthwhile posting here?
    • Close Quicken, leave it closed for about 30 secs
    • Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.

    UKR,

I followed your recommended steps. After the validate I reviewed the data log, most of the entries were [Unspecified Account] and then executed the super validate. The super validate reported no errors. I closed Quicken, counted to 40 and reopend Quicken. The issue persists. I selected the entry in my checking transaction register, opened MPL, right clicked on the Payee I want to use and clicked on Use. Nothing happened. I tried creating a new MPL but it behaved the same way. I clicked on Use and nothing happened.

I restored from a 06/15 backup, which was the last backup before the issue occurred. I restored it to a copy. I then executed a One Step Update. After the transactions were downloaded I attempted to use an MPL entry. It is still not working. The issue persists.

Does anyone have other suggestions? MPL is still not working.

You can try reverting to a prior patch level. Just download and run the manual patch from this article:

I'm experiencing the same problem since the last update. This happens every year or so after an update. It's a Quicken issue and should not be that hard for them to fix as all the information is in the Memorized Payee list. It simply does not populate into the register. Dumb! Fix it Intuit!

To clarify for myself, when I start to enter Payee that is in the MPL, I shows me the information in the category that should populate, but even if I click on the displayed record, it only populates the payee name, not the category or other information. Again, it can see the information because it's displaying it to me. So the fact that it doesn't populate the register MUST BE A programming bug.

@Tack Hammer If you go to Edit > Preferences > Data Entry and QuickFill, what options are selected? Sometimes settings are changed unexpectedly after an update.

In the top section, I have all the boxes checked except for the top one and Quicken recalls Memorized Payees as expected.

The behavior you describe sounds like what happens when the Recall Memorized Payees box is not checked.
