Migrating from QW 2011 to QM 2018 Deluxe but issues with investing accounts not carrying over the s

I decided to migrate from Quicken 2011 that I was running on a PC emulator to Quicken for Mac 2018 Deluxe (now that a Canada version is available. Installation was straight forward and documentation suggested that conversion would not be an issue. However I've encountered a couple of glitches that I noticed so far. First one had to do with the currencies associated with various account was incorrect. That was easily fixed by editing each account with an incorrect currency. Second is that all my investing accounts only transferred the cash balance in the account. The portfolios do not show any of the securities. When I look at the transactions, re-investments and such... they are there. The list of securities from the Windows menu show the securities. Has anyone else encountered this migration problems? Any suggestions as how to resolve?

I have the same issue with investment accounts after importing from Quicken Mac 2007 into Quicken Mac 2018 (Cdn version). The transactions are there, but there are no securities in the portfolio. As well, mutual fund securities in Q2007 were flagged with "F:" -- these must be manually changed to "MUTUAL" in Q2018. However, when manually changing MUTUAL, the name of the fund changes to the fund company name. Very frustrating. I am resuming my conversion to the Quicken for Windows Home & Business (Canadian Edition), by starting over from January 1, 2017. Quicken Mac 2018 does not work.

    Hey Marcel,

    Sorry  you're experiencing these difficulties.

The Windows and Mac product are very different. Unfortunately, the  conversion is not a seamless process.

Can you try creating a Buy and a Sell transaction with a sample security to see if this reflects in the portfolio properly?  We need to rule out if it's an issue with the data in the file or an issue with the software.

Let me know how it goes.

I had the same problem when converting from QM07 to QM2018.  I stumbled on a solution. I simply added a single "add shares" transaction for each security in the portfolio, and it miraculously brought all the other securities back into the portfolio view.  Then I deleted the manual transaction and everything was fine.  Unfortunately, I have one portfolio with a basket of 20+ securities managed by my adviser and that meant I had to do this 20+ times, but it did work. You might give it a try.

Thanks moski ... you're a genius. I have 100+ securities to enter but at less I have a path forward. I'm also disappointed that all the quotes that I logged for securities and currencies over the years did not transfer across. There is an option for re downloading quotes from the past 5 years, but that doesn't help me with some of my offshore investments. Your help was much appreciated.

I don't buy that excuse for a poor conversion. You have the file formats for both the Windows and Mac products. You just need to map fields between the two. They only issue is when you have fields that are used in one and not the other. That should be a small number I would expect.

Another user seemed to have success simply by trying this this work-around of just changing the stock, saving it, then changing it back to the original stock and saving again. YMMV

This is definitely a software bug. The workaround described by "moski" causes the securities to appear back into the portfolio.
