Not able to add Chase Investment Accounts to Quicken

I have used Quicken for many years and enjoyed the convenience of downloading transactions from all the financial institutes I use. Last year I opened a few investment accounts with Chase as a Private Bank Client, and has not had any luck setting up these accounts in Quicken. From Chase website, it's single-sign-on and I am able to see both my bank accounts and investment accounts. However, the Chase account I was able to set up in Quicken only recognizes the bank accounts. I am not sure what to choose in the very long list of options Quick has that contains either "Chase" or "JP Morgan" or both, also do not know if there is a different user credential that's needed to be able to link to my investment accounts. Help!

    There certainly are a lot of different entries for "Chase", "JP Morgan" and even "JP Morgan Chase" in fidir.txt and it's not clear at all if any one of them is the one you need.
    Unless there's somebody in here who's a Chase Private Client customer and knows the answer, I think the easiest approach is to call Chase Private Client if they allow downloading into Quicken and if so, how you do it.

    @DS9536 - The Chase.com website shows that Quicken can be used with Chase Private Client  (CPC) accounts.  I could find nothing about any unique Quicken setup requirements for CPC accounts so I'm assuming the set up process is the same as it is with other types of Chase accounts (i.e., checking, savings, credit card, etc.).:
    One thing to note is that if you have already set up download (direct connect) from Chase or any other financial institution (FI) and add a new online account with that FI, simply running OSU will not add the new account to Quicken.  To get download set up in Quicken for that new account you need to do Add Account or if you have already set up your CPC manual account in Quicken you can also go to the Online Services tab of Account Details and click on Set up Now (just make sure to remove your account number and FI name from the General tab of Account details before you do this).  Also, before proceeding, make sure you back up your data file so you can retrieve it quickly if something goes wrong.
    If Quicken finds that new online account it will be downloaded from Chase and you will likely be prompted to either Add it as a new account or, if you had already set it up as a manual account, to Link it to that manual account.  Be sure to select the right option.
    Your other accounts data might also be downloaded.  If this happens, make sure you Link them to the appropriate accounts you have already set up in Quicken.
    Another option I have used when I've had difficulty finding the correct FI setup link to use is to go to my online account and manually download the account data from there in QFX (Quicken Web Connect) format.  Chase does offer this download format for credit card accounts but I don't know if it is available for CPC account.  It is available for your CPC account, be sure the download is Added as a new account in Quicken or, if the manual account is already set up in Quicken, Link to it.  Then go to the Online Services tab of Account Details for your CPC account and there should be a link that says "Your Financial Institution offers an improved connection method".  Click on the link provided and you will be taken through the set up process...be sure to select Direct Connect, not Express Web Connect, if the option is offered.
    If both of these methods fail to get you set up properly you will probably need to contact Chase for assistance.

    I should have mentioned that I did the following before posting the question:

    1. To rule out other variables, I created a brand new Quicken file and only added one provider which is Chase to it. As described in the issue, I got connected with my single sign on credential but it only retrieved my bank accounts and mortgage account. No investment accounts located
    2. I also tried to download the transactions from Chase site but came to realize the "download" button is only available for the bank accounts (at least I only see it for my bank accounts). There is a similar option offered for investment accounts called "Export As" but unfortunately it does not offer the QFX format, only text, csv and excel formats are available for that options

    I did also send an email to my contact at Chase for assitance, so I will wait and see what they come back with and will share the outcome it it's resolved

    My guess:


    Note that a lot of these can be eliminated because if you go into the advanced settings they allow Express Web Connect, which doesn't support investment accounts.  The one I selected goes right into asking if you want simple investing or complete, so it is Direct Connect only.

    Hi DS9536. I just purchased Quicken yesterday and have the exact same problem as you. Chase bank accounts and credit card accounts setup automatically but it ignored my investment accounts. Did you ever find a solution?

    Quicken appears to recognize investment accounts I'm attempting to add (Username and password I use to access accounts are recognized as being associated with the institution), but the screen requesting the type of account (e.g. brokerage, IRA, investment, etc.) does not come up. Consequently, the setup is not complete. I've downloaded transactions from my institution but then have nowhere to go with them.

    If you have not done so already, may I ask that you please attempt to add your investment accounts using the option "Chase Investments-New?"

    @BrotherEsau , @TNygaard , I followed the suggestion from @Quicken_Tyka and tried to add investment accounts separately by selecting "Chase Investment - New". After entering my Chase login credential, the software popped up an error and directed me to connect with my financial institute. Then I received an email from Chase that there is a secure message for me. After login to Chase and get to Secure Message Inbox, I reviewed the message and select "confirm your identity now". Once that's done, I came back to Quicken and select Try Again, and this time it went through successfully!
    I do want to point out I did try both "Chase Investment -Old" and "Chase Investment - New" last year when first set up the investment accounts with Chase and neither of them worked. Quicken did not have the message/instruction as it does now, nor did I get any secure message delivered to my Chase account inbox. So somewhere along the way, the integration was sorted out.

    I hope it works for both of you too!

    Thank you both for your suggestions. I tried a number of variations of these suggestions with no success. I've talked to Quicken technical people as well as technical specialists in Quicken with my financial institution. No one has been able to help me. I'd rather not discuss this further in a public forum. Very frustrating!
  • I'm afraid this is disappointing. I am trying to connect my investments between Chase and Quicken as well, using Quicken Tyka's recommendation. Using "Chase Investments - New," Chase won't even accept my login, even though it's the exact same one I use every day to log in to Chase.com. I changed my password in case that was the issue. Nope, not that either. I would like to know if there is anything else that can be done.

  • Hi Quicken_Tyka,

    When I connected using "Chase," it tried to connect me with my checking and credit card accounts, which I already have connected with Quicken ,so that's useless. Then I tried using "Chase Investments - New", and it said "Incorrect Customer ID or Password/PIN." I go to Chase.com to gain access to my investment information and my checking and credit card information, and I use the same customer ID and password for everything. I'm not sure why this won't work on Quicken.

    So - just to clarify -
    the solution was the requirement to go to Chase.com
    and ENABLE access for Quicken ?

    My problem was solved on Chase.com.
    - Login into Chase.com
    - Click on the triple horizontal lines near the upper left corner.
    - Once clicked, click on profile & settings
    - Then look for the AccountSafe heading (you may need to scroll)
    - and then click on Desktop Apps.
    - Finally, ENABLE .
    That worked for me!  Also, you need to use Chase Investments - New.

    After days on the phone with both Quicken and Chase Investments, I can say these 2 institutions have never heard of one another, and have no intention of working together. 2021 Facepalm.

    I'm also not able to connect Chase Investments. None of the info in these previous posts have helped, nor have calls to Quicken and Chase. In my Mac version of Quicken, I was able to have my Chase investments connected.

    I am also having the same problem. There is not an option for "Chase Investments - New" on the add account screen anymore, either.

    I just tried Add Account and started typing in Chase Investments and it clearly shows an option for "New".  You are not seeing this?
    If you are not seeing this, are you running Starter edition?  That is the only Quicken Windows edition that does not support investments.  You need Deluxe, Premier or Home & Business to get the investments features.  If you are running Starter and want to add investments you can upgrade to one of the other editions and you will only need to pay for the difference in subscription fees.

    I solved this problem today with help from Chase. Here are the steps:

    1) Logon to your chase accounts
    2) Click on Security and Privacy
    3) Click on Desktop Software
    4) Click on Next - you should get a green checkmark noting you are setup, but don't close Chase yet - you'll need to come back
    5) Add new account to Quicken using Chase Investments New
    6) Enter the username and password - you will likely get an error that will say "its not your fault"
    7) Go back to chase.com and look in your Secure Message center. You will find a new message that you click on the verify the quicken request
    8) Go back to Quicken and choose Try Again

    It should work - good luck!

    The process is so complicate. But currently, it is the only method working for me. ;)

    Yes it is complicated, but in a way I like it.  It is a tradeoff between convenience and security.
    I have seen several security models and I tend to like Chase's the best.

    Here are some of the examples I have come across.

    1. Use just the username and password.
    2. Use a special generated token/password that is different from the main username and password.
    3. One time website authorization for Direct Connect.
    4. Authorized Direct Connect once for every data file.
    Chase is using #4.

    Basically with #1 through #3 if someone can obtain the credentials they can get in with any Quicken data file.  For #4 they need your data file.

  • Just a confirmation. I previously set up my banking accounts using Chase. When I switched to JP Morgan Private Client, I switched to the JP Morgan Private client entry, which connected to the CPC accounts, and I was able to match them with my existing Chase account in Quicken. HOWEVER, it did not bring by investment account over. Thankfully, Susan Harris had already solved it using Chase Investments - New, which will bring your CPC investments accounts over.
