If you could.....

Happy August everyone, we hope you've had a great summer!

As we start moving into fall and 'back to school' season, we wondered, if you could give a piece of advice to your younger self, what would it be?

Myself, I wish that I could have told myself how credit works and to start building it responsibly earlier.

What about you?

My dad and I were very close and therefore we pretty much knew what the other one was thinking and feeling, so in some cases I didn't voice what I was thinking just assuming that he knew.  I think I would voice those things to make sure.

Maybe they should teach that in school: Personal Money Management 101

You sure got that right.  In 1984 I changed jobs and had a profit-sharing plan of $35k which I moved into an IRA with Piper Jaffray investment councilors.  Since my background was in Information Technology I wanted to put 50% of my funds into Microsoft stock because I though they had a good thing going.  PJ adamantly opposed that and insisted on diversification.

Gee, I always hear that as "Don't sweat the petty stuff ... and don't pet the sweaty stuff".

Anja, there is lots of wisdom in that.  While it may be really uncomfortable where we are at any point, I firmly believe that there is always a reason which we often don't understand until later.

Well, sometimes it pays to sweat the small stuff before is gets bigger.  I guess wisdom is knowing the difference.
