How can I reverse an automatic update?

Auto update moved me to R37.62 Build: 27.1.17.62. Where in Quicken can I reverse this update? Pre the update, I had no problems. After the update, Quicken hid years of data in at least 2 accounts, appears to have screwed around with others and tried to sync to the cloud (which I have not set up for security reasons). I've been a user of Quicken for more than 20 years and this is the worst update problem I have ever experienced.

You can download and install previous patches and version releases through this link.

If you apply an older release over the newer one, that is "undoing what the automatic update did".

Click on the highlighted link in Quicken Anja's post.

    Click on the R36.56 link.

You should be prompted where to put the file.  I usually select the Desktop.

After the download finishes, double click on the file on your Desktop.

Agree to allow Windows to update your Quicken.

Let it do its thing and finish.  When done, select Start Quicken or Done.

When you start Quicken next time, HELP > About Quicken should show R36.56.

There is NO need to uninstall Quicken and then re-install the release.  In some cases, you can go back a few releases by just applying an older release over the newer one.  This is one of those cases.

To revert to an earlier release, I suggest you perform a clean uninstall, install while disconnected from the internet, update by applying the appropriate Mondo Patch, and restoring a data file saved prior to updating from the earlier patch release.  If you haven’t already, you may want to review: https://www.quicken.com/support/using-qcleanui-uninstall-quicken. To update Quicken, I recommend you download and apply the appropriate Mondo Patch: https://www.quicken.com/support/patching-updates-windows or http://www.quicknperlwiz.com/quickenpatches.html

To prevent Quicken from applying an update without your approval, I suggest you set Windows UAC settings appropriately (choose default or always notify).

  • Thanks for the help. The resetting to an earlier position did not solve my problems, but performing the step was necessary to eliminate possible explanations for the faults that occurred. It appears there are problems in the downloading/update process between Quicken and a brokerage account provider.

Yes, it is a good test so that you know.  It is VERY typical though that people think the problem is in the patch they just got, but in reality, something else changes about the same time.  Another possibility that pops up a lot is a failed/corrupted install.  And in that case basically any reinstall fixes it.
