Hello @Dennis Nelson,
Please, review and follow the error-specific steps found in this support article.
If the steps are unsuccessful, then after 24 hours or more, as stated at the bottom of the article, you will need to contact Quicken Support via phone or chat. Our support agents will need to collect and review your log files to find the internal error and file for an escalation if they see fit.
Thank you!

Also having cc-502 errors when trying to download from Bremer. The support articles & instructions had no effect.

I'm also having problems, cc-502 when trying to download from Bremer Bank.

I just spoke with Bremer agent/banker at 800-908-2265. He (Andy) said "it's a known issue and they're working on it". Feel free to call Bremer to express your dissatisfaction and urge them to get it fixed. Copying to this to the Mac version discussion since my comment here was separated from this thread.

Bremer Bank updated their website last week (on 10/10?) and they have had problems with that update. When I tried to log into the new website on 10/10 I was required to change my PW which I did. That worked and I was able to view my online account.
But when I deactivated/reactivated my EWC connection I got a variety of different error codes…CC-502 was the most common.
I tried to log into my online account, again, on Friday and I got a message that I've been locked out because of too many failed attempts to log in. They have a link to unlock the account but that did not unlock it.
I was hoping Bremer would have gotten this all resolved by today but it is not. Today when I tried to set up the EWC connection it looked like it was starting to work properly because I was prompted to have a 2FA code texted to me. But the telephone numbers that were offered to have the text sent to were not mine….I did not recognize them at all.
I then backed out and tried to set up the EWC connection, again, but this time via Set Up Now instead of Add Account and got this popup with no information. The More Info button does not work and Quicken locks up and becomes non-functional with the only option to get out is to force close it via Task Manager. BTW, I got this same popup a couple of times over the last few days when trying to set up the EWC connection.:
I called Bremer corporate about this last Friday afternoon and they acknowledged there is are problems with their new website but they said I would need to contact the local branch to get my account unlocked. So, I will do that later today. I will post back here what they tell me.
BTW, the Android app for Bremer was also updated in coordination with this website change. It has never worked, not even the 1st day when I was able to get logged in on the website.

I have tried for the last 6 days to update my Quicken and I keep getting this is issue. I know Bremer has updated their system so what do I need to do to my Quicken to get my accounts updated.

I did follow up with Bremer today and got my online account access unlocked. They said that the website update did lock out some customers so they encourage people to contact them (specifically, their local branch) if they are experiencing this issue.
But the CC-502 issue is different. The person I talked with did not know about the issue and their tech support team is swamped trying to get their website issues resolved so I will try to contact their tech support, again, tomorrow.
After I got my online account access restored I tried to set up the EWC connection but got the CC-502 error, again. I got the same result in a test file so I know it is not a file corruption issue. However, generally when an account is deactivated it is then possible to remove all the financial institution information on the General tab of Account Details but in this case, all of that information could be removed except for the financial institution name. I found that to be odd.
I thought maybe it's a good time to use the Web Connect (WC) method so I logged into my online account and downloaded transactions in a QFX file. But the QFX file import process did not work as I was not prompted to link the imported data to any account in Quicken and none of the transactions were imported. I also tried to do this in a test file and got the same results. I checked the QFX file in Notepad and everything looked correct. I have seen a few others posting that WC does not seem to be working with their financial institutions so maybe the issues I experienced with WC with Bremer is more related to that issue that it is specific to Bremer.

I'm still only experiencing maddening frustration with the Bremer & FIS infrastructure "upgrade", but I'm finally sensing some progress to fix Quicken connectivity. During one click update I was prompted in Quicken (Mac) to select MFA method of contact (call/text/call) but still no OTA authenticator option like Authy after this "upgrade". Error 1 FDP-106 detail copy/paste below:
—
This connection failed, and will not update:
Bremer(myusername) - Error FDP-106 (ACCOUNT_MISMATCH - Account not found. No accounts returned - case 106)
To retry the failed connection, you'll need to start a new update.
Please try again later.
—
Then, the Connection Status update Summary window shows 6 errors related to all our Bremer accounts…
"This account has been marked as Closed or Hidden in Quicken, and is in an error state at the bank. If this account is no longer active, click Disconnect.
The accounts found at Bremer don’t match the accounts in Quicken. Let’s fix it by reconnecting your account. (FDP-106)
Care Code: FDP-106
Details:
ACCOUNT_MISMATCH
Account not found. No accounts returned - case 106—
So I attempted to reconnect from my main account, but I get the same error loop. I verified my accounts using the website and app but had to re-authenticate and re-establish biometrics - seemingly disabled by Bremer/FIS yesterday.
I'm posting this in both Windows and Mac threads for broader visibility…we obviously share the same connectivity issues with Bremer.
One step forward, two steps back. Two weeks later and we're still not able to connect via Quicken.

This evening I was able to establish an EWC connection with Bremer. I was excited…at first…because it said 2K+ transactions were downloaded and no duplicates. Unfortunately, there were no new transactions added to the register and there should have been 7 of those. Also, the Online Balance did not update.
There was no error code/message received. But the online services setup process was weird. I got a 2FA request which seemed to work OK and then I was able to Link the download to my account. But instead of completing then, I was prompted for another 2FA. Then the setup process completed.
So some progress, I suppose, but it is still broken.
EDIT: I should have mentioned that the connection process changed the Opening Balance transaction dollar amount. Good thing that I had previously entered and saved the correct dollar amount into the Memo field so it was very easy to correct.

Bremer and/or FIS appears incompetent, not mapping existing linked accounts correctly and/or not knowing proper debits & credits for their accounts.
I've had relative "success" getting my Bremer account connections re-established with MFA, but the initial downloads had completely reversed debits and credits. And had to re-link them a 2nd time. Payments from Debit/checking account showed up as "Deposits" to Personal Income. After manually fixing all the incorrect transactions and deleting duplicates by using the Bremer iPhone app as my reference guide to our transactions, I then individually re-synced each account and everything seems re-connected and functional. My Quicken account balances are the same as reported on the web & app, but not without significant manual reconciliation of all the transactions from the past month. We'll see if this "success" holds true when future transactions flow through in the coming days. It seems like there's a 50/50 chance the account types and debits & credits are mapped correctly. We'll see…
Despite now being seemingly being re-connected and reconciled (manually), I'm still intensely frustrated (furious?) at the basic lack of competence at Bremer or FIS. It's not clear whose fault this is, but I'll say Bremer since they're in charge of their own IT infrastructure. This has been an abysmal "upgrade" experience. And there's still no way to do MFA from anything but SMS, requiring me to activate my US SIM overseas ($$) because there's no alternative means to authenticate (or cheaped out and decided not to pay for it).
I think Bremer can soon consider me an ex-customer, after trusting them with my accounts for 33 years. Trust is earned, and they've just done a great job losing it.

During OSU today: Received error code CC-506. No transactions were downloaded and the Online Balance was not updated. But the Account List and the Account Register showed that the account was updated today.
Tried Update Now: Same results as with OSU.
Tried Reset Account (Account Details > Online Services tab > Reset Account):
- Prompted for 2FA.
- Was able to Link the download to my account in Quicken.
- Prompted for 2FA, again, after which the Reset Account process completed.
- The Account Register showed the account is set up with EWC and the date and time of the last download are correct.
- The Opening Balance transaction dollar amount was changed, again. (Again, easily corrected because the correct amount was previously entered into the Memo field.)
- 10 transactions were downloaded: All of them showed in the Downloaded Transactions view as being deposits but only 1 of them really was a deposit and that 1 deposit was correctly matched to the deposit transaction I had previously manually entered. 6 transactions did not match with 6 previous manually entered debit transactions (because they had downloaded as credits instead of debits). The remaining 3 transactions were previously downloaded (prior to this website upgrade) but because they were downloaded as credits instead of debits they could not be matched, as well. I simply deleted all 9 of these incorrect deposit entries in Downloaded Transactions so they did not get wrongly entered into the Account Register and no register cleanup was then needed (other than #5).
- The Online Balance correctly updated.
- I was finally able to reconcile to the Online Balance.
The main Bremer issues, IMO:
- Error code CC-506.
- Requiring two 2FAs before the Reset process would complete.
- Downloading debits as credits.
Issues that, IMO, are likely Quicken issues, not Bremer issues:
- The Opening Balance transaction dollar amount being changed. This is a fairly common, long-time issue that sometimes happens when Resetting, changing or adding a download connection method.
- Downloading some transactions that had been previously downloaded and not filtering them out during the data import process. This is another fairly common, long-time issue that sometimes happens when Resettting, changing or adding a download connection method. (One caveat about this: It could be that the reason why Quicken did not filter out the 3 previously downloaded transactions was because they were downloaded as credits instead of debits. So maybe this one is not a Quicken issue.
One issue might be a Bremer issue or might be a Quicken issue or a combination of both:
- Downloading 3 transactions that had been previously downloaded and not filtering them out during the data import process. This is a fairly common, long-time issue which causes duplicate transactions in the account register that sometimes happens when Resettting, changing or adding a download connection method. But in this case, it might be that because Bremer downloaded these 3 transactions as credits instead of debits, then Quicken could not match them to the previously downloaded transactions so they were then treated by Quicken as new transactions.
So, some real but slow progress.

Update on Bremer OSU run this morning:
- OSU functioned normally.
- No error, no error code, no error message.
- There was one 2FA request, not two.
- There was one newly posted transaction downloaded. It was correctly downloaded as a debit, not a credit.
- No duplicate transactions were downloaded.
- The Online Balance was correct.
Hopefully Bremer OSU continues like this. (OK, I do hope that I am not prompted for 2FA every time I do OSU but if that happens it is a nuisance/convenience issue, not a download integrity issue.)

Results of OSU with Bremer today: The same good results as I reported yesterday. One newly posted transaction downloaded correctly as a debit. I was prompted for 2FA so nothing changed in that regard.

Results of OSU with Bremer today:
- 1 new debit transaction downloaded as a credit: So the issue still is not resolved. I manually corrected the downloaded transaction.
- Prompted for 2FA 1X, again.
- Online Balance is correct.
Sigh.

Continued frustration with Bremer. smh as the kids say
Bremer iOS app works, website works, Quicken (Mac) connection no longer working. 1st connect attempt in week (traveling opposite side of Earth, ATT wants $12/day to get my SMS OTP).
Appreciate the updates here from boatnmaniac. The debit/credit mix up and MFA certainly Bremer's issue. I think I did get duplicate transactions, part of the significant reconciliation, but not sure who's issue that is. Also, clearly not tested well (unit or integration, or at all?) and they "own" their infra, not FIS or Quicken.
Open Quicken, it updates (Version 7.10.0), and press the OSU button, proceeds to prompt for Bremer MFA, specify text, receive text and enter it, then get the great error below… "Invalid Answer". Do it 2 more times, same answer. MFA works when logging into the iOS Bremer App and the Bremer website, but not in Quicken connection. Wish they'd nix the MFA in the Quicken connection. It's the only FI account I have that does this, and not seemingly "fully baked".
Multifactor Authentication Failed
This connection failed, and will not update
Bremer(myAccount) - Invalid Answer
To retry the failed connection, you'll need to start a new update.
I'll try to paste this into the Quicken Mac thread here but the last time it wouldn't post, maybe because my comment had been "separated" from this thread.

Update 5 hours later, this time the One step update "worked", MFA worked (1x), BUT the debits & credits still flipped. Expenses show as Deposits. Had to manually flip the transactions, and hope I got family's accounts correct not knowing the exact nature of their transactions.
It's crazy how bad Bremer's "upgrade" has gone, especially for Quicken users. Clearly no testing involved, no alternative to SMS authentication for OTP, and no ability to manually download .csv or .qfx as a backup.

My OSU results today for Bremer: The same as yesterday….still broken.
- 1 new debit transaction downloaded as a credit: So this issue still is not resolved. I manually corrected the downloaded transaction.
- Prompted for 2FA 1X, again.
- Online Balance is correct.
In addition, I tried to export transactions in a QFX file (the "Quicken" file export option) from Bremer:
- As with a week ago, a file did manually download.
- The credits in it are correctly shown as credits and the debits are correctly shown as debits.
- I did not see anything in it that looked out of line but I might be missing something.
- Like last week, the file could not be imported into my TEST file and instead returned an error: Quicken is unable to complete your request.(OL-221-A).

11/5/2024 UPDATE:
- MAIN DATA FILE: There were several transactions downloaded today via EWC during OSU. All of the transactions correctly downloaded as debits (there were no credit transactions this time). Keeping my fingers crossed that this is not an intermittent improvement like has happened a couple of other times. I was still prompted for 2FA (one time).
- NEW TEST FILE: I set up my Bremer checking account for download via EWC. I was prompted for 2FA twice…once during the initial Add Account setup process and once at the conclusion of the setup process before the new account was actually added to Quicken. 3+ months of transactions were downloaded….all of them correctly entered as debits & credits. The Online Balance was correct. I was able to Reconcile the account to the Online Balance. Very promising!
I did not try using the Web Connect process so I cannot comment on whether or not the QFX file import issue still exists.

And no communication from Quicken or Bremer. Very frustating!

As noted in this thread, the Express Web Connect (EWC) download connection issue (what this thread is about) appears to have been resolved. And, for me, during OSU this morning there were multiple transactions and the online balance downloaded correctly.
Which connection method are you trying to download with? EWC? Generally, OL-221-A is not an error code that is associated with EWC.
Or are you manually downloading and importing a QFX file from Bremer via the Web Connect (WC) connection method? OL-221-A is sometimes associated with WC errors. If this is the case, you might want to review the following Support Article. There are things in there that you can do (specific to this error code) that you might want to try:
.Also, have you tried contacting Quicken Support (
) and/or Bremer technical support about this issue? What did they say? If not, you should report this issue to Quicken Support (via chat or call) or via Help > Report A Problem so they know this is an ongoing issue for you.Quicken Classic Premier (US) Subscription: R60.15 on Windows 11 Home

My connection issue was resolved with some issues but resolved. Only remaining issue is having to do text verification every time I try to download into quicken. Other financial institutions require an approval for third party programs on their customer's profile web page as opposed to requiring verification for every download as it is a bit of a hassle when all you are doing is downloading transaction detail.

It has now been 2 wks (since 11/5) that the EWC connection issue (with the CC-502 error code and inverted debits and credits) has, for me, been fully resolved. So, I think the posted Alert (ONGOING! 10/29/24 Bremer - Incorrect Transactions Type) should be reviewed to see it is should be marked as RESOLVED.
Being required to enter 2FA with every OSU is not resolved and but that is something that Bremer prompts for so I think that is something Bremer needs to address. In the past I used to get 2FA requests with every OSU from a couple of other banks and they said they needed to whitelist Quicken so their security protocols would stop requesting 2FA when Quicken would make their nightly download connections. Maybe that is something that Bremer needs to do, as well?
The other issue (not addressed in this referenced Alert) was that WC downloads stopped working. QFX files could be manually downloaded but they could not be imported. I just downloaded a QFX file from my online Bremer account and tried to import it but got the following error message. This is a new error message so it seems like something has changed from before but it still is broken.:

I'm so beyond frustrated!!! I'm leaving BREMER bank after several years, there is NO FIXING what is wrong with them when it comes to Quicken. My fiancee banks at USBANK and I NEVER have a problem with USBANK and Quicken. If you are having issues, it's on Bremer, not Quicken, I recommend using a different bank.

Would you care to describe what issue(s) you are having with Bremer? Things that would be helpful to know:
- What type(s) of account(s) are you trying to download?
- Which connection method are to try to download with? EWC or WC?
- Is your account(s) currently connected to Bremer?
- Are you receiving any error codes or messages? If so what are they?
- Are there any other specific issues or concerns you have with the downloading process or results?

I am frustrated also. I have been entering transactions manually for almost two months while waiting for this to be fixed. Bremer says Quicken has to fix the problem. That may be, but Quicken has a lot of institutions to service, so who knows how long that will take. Regardless, I hold Bremer responsible since they launched this update without enough testing!! Luckily, I don't have a lot of bank transactions and my Fidelity downloads still work.
I also get the error message that Quicken is unable to verify the financial institution. That is a recently new error message, so it suggests to me that someone is working on this. I am retired and don't understand the achronyms in this thread (EWC, WC, OSU, 2FA, etc) and am not about to learn. LOL 🤣 I appreciate the input offered, but don't understand most of it. So, I guess I will check in once a week or so to see if it is fixed. At some point, however, I may have to switch banks.

After 5-6 weeks since the "upgrade", Quicken one step update (OSU) for Bremer downloads was again working for the last 2 weeks (Mac version). But that was after a LOT of manual fixing and reconciling transactions incorrectly imported. The debits & credits were all mixed up and MFA (multi-factor authentication) wasn't working. I'm traveling and I've had to enable my US SIM at $12/day just to get SMS codes on my phone to deal with this incompetence.
I hold Bremer responsible. They govern their infrastructure and this "upgrade" was crazy bad, and completely untested. And they want my trust to handle money? I read in the Star Tribune that Bremer Bank is now for sale to a larger bank. It looks like the greedy trustees finally got their wish to cash out of the bank after a long legal battle with the bank involving the Attorney General, after the 1 trustee was forced out in the settlement. I'm beyond fed up and preparing the family to move banks after 30+ years with Bremer. It's not hard to move your money to new accounts these days. So despite loving Otto Bremer's unique mission for the Trust, I've lost trust in Bremer's basic competence.

Regarding the acronyms:
- EWC = Express Web Connect. This is the type of connection method that is used when downloading transactions from Bremer using Quicken to do the downloading. EWC broke when Quicken updated their system and is the issue that most of this thread is about. It was resolved about 2 wks ago and is functioning well now.
- OSU = One Step Update. This is the process that Quicken uses when it downloads financial data into Quicken.
- WC = Web Connect. This is a type of connection method where one manually initiates the download and import of transactions in QFX formatted files (what Bremer calls "Quicken" files) from within the online bank account.
- There are a couple of other connection methods but Bremer does not support them at this time. You can read more about all of the download connection methods in this Support Article:
- 2FA = Two-Factor Authentication. It is also referred to as MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication). When downloading into Quicken via OSU, the financial institution will sometimes tell Quicken that 2FA is required of the Quicken user in order for the download process to proceed. The user then selects a method…usually a text number or an email address…for the financial institution to send a security code to. When the code is received by the user, the user then enters it into Quicken so the download process can proceed and be completed. 2FA normally is an exception process that only occurs once in a while, if at all. But since Bremer upgraded their website they have been requesting 2FA every time OSU for EWC is performed. It's a nuisance but it does not break Quicken.
From what you have posted, it seems that you are manually downloading via the WC method but that method is not working, yet. Have you reported this issue to Quicken (Help > Report a Problem)? They need to made aware of this issue (if they are not already aware of it) or it might never get fixed.
Your other option is to set up your Bremer account(s) for OSU downloading with EWC. That has been fixed and is working well. If you wish to do this you will first need to deactivate your current WC connection and then reactivate your account….be sure to first deactivate each of your Bremer accounts before trying to reactivate them. This Support Article says how to do this:

BOATMANIAC,
Thanks so much for the help.
When I say "manually download", I mean I literally enter each transaction myself. No download. Not too bad due to small number of transactions.
I used to manually download a QFX file, but that hasn't worked since Bremer's site update. I did ask Quicken if they are working on it, but never got a response. I may try the EWC option, but I'm not sure I want to de-activate anything. I may just wait a little longer. Thanks again for your help.

Thanks for the clarification. So you are now manually entering data into your Bremer account.
That makes sense because the downloading of QFX files (Web Connect) is still not working. But whatever work Bremer has been doing on this might be coming to a stop or greatly slowing down. It was announced in an email I received 2 days ago from Bremer's president that Bremer has been sold to Old National Bank. I'm thinking that Bremer will be deprioritizing many of their projects until they can better understand which of them will fit in with ONB's priorities.
I did check and there is a listing for ONB in Add Account so it would appear that whether Bremer will be a subsidiary of ONB or if it will be merged into ONB, we will still be able to download into Quicken. In reviewing the FIDIR.txt file, it shows that ONB supports Direct Connect, Express Web Connect and Web Connect.
BTW, if you do decide to set up your Bremer account(s) with Express Web Connect and if you have not already done so you might want to enter and save the Opening Balance transaction dollar amount into the Memo field of that transaction and then backup your data file. Sometimes (not always) when changing or setting up a new connection method or changing the connection method the Opening Balance transaction dollar will get changed. By doing this it becomes very easy to see if this has happened and what you need to do to correct it.
Also, if your account is still showing it is connected via Web Connect, then it should give you an option on the Online Services tab of Account Details and in Account List to click on a link to set up "an improved connection method." Click on that link and Quicken should take you through the process of upgrading the connection method to EWC without you needing to deactivate the account. And, yes, Bremer downloads via EWC continues to work quite well for me….going on 19 days now.
