Why can't quicken add a running balance to the transaction report in the report section. The only place they have is in more reports. Can't modify this report. It seems it would be easy to add this

Transaction Reports can be used to show transactions across multiple account registers. They can also be used to sort and/or subtotal by various options, sort by payee, sort by category, etc.
If a transaction in the report belongs to account A and is followed by another transaction from account B … printing a Running Balance would not be meaningful in that situation. Which running balance would you choose? Or are you asking about a top-to-bottom running balance across all listed transactions, similar to what's already available and is shown when you pull up the All Transaction View?

If you are listing all transactions of a single account register and want all transaction details, Splits, Memos and the Running Balance, try generating a Register Report. With the account register view open press CTRL-P or select File / Print {account name here} or select the Actions gear icon and click Print Transactions.

I would like to have a running balance for each account. I would like for it to versatile so I can remove columns I don't need

You can sort most reports by account. Then it will give you the total for each account. But then I don’t think you can get a running balance for each account.

Note that there are currently multiple ways to print transactions in banking and credit card accounts. One is to view an account and print its register by going to File > Print <account name> or hitting Ctrl-P. This will print a report with the running balance of the account but the format is inflexible. It does not print the same columns you select for display. There are two formats depending on whether you have selected one or two rows for the register display.

Another way is to go to Reports > Banking > Transaction. This lets you select the columns to display and shows the starting and ending balance, but does not include a running balance. You can subtotal by account and choose which accounts to include.

You can also view the account, click on the gear menu, and select More reports > Register report. This report is essentially the same as the Banking Transaction report with just the current account selected. Unfortunately it defaults to All dates, so if there are a lot of transactions in the account it takes a very long time to display.

There have been multiple requests over the years to add a running balance column to the Banking Transaction report and the related Register report, but they have all been closed. I think that is the essence of this Idea.

I have voted for this Idea in hopes that it will finally be implemented. I edited the discussion title to clarify the report in question.

I start with register report and modified the report by removing columns so it fits on a page, portrait. But can't add balance. The highlighted balance line on the screen doesn't highlight with my two HP printers (one is color). What is worse, is if you change the start date, the balance changes as it doesn't start with balance info before the date. Therefore to be accurate you either select all dates (long reports) or choose each report based on the last day the account balance was zero. And if you can select different accounts and have a page break for each account I could print reports for multiple accounts at one time instead of picking each one individually.

If you work with a report from the Reports Menu, you can't get a running register balance that matches your view of the transaction register.
Instead, you need to generate a report from the account transaction register view by pressing CTRL-P (or selecting File / Print [account register name here] or clicking the register's Actions gear icon and selecting "Print transactions")
The resulting report will fit on standard paper in either Portrait or Landscape mode.

Printing a report from the Reports Menu will print subtotals in bold face unless you choose to print in Draft Mode.
