I've been having trouble connecting to my Vanguard accounts over the past two days. Yesterday, after refreshing a couple times, it allowed me to connect. However it's not connecting today.
Using Quicken for Mac.
Error code: 16503
Server message: HTTP-404 Error from Vanguard
Anyone else having this message? We have two logins with Vanguard and both are throwing the same error.

I've been getting this since yesterday morning. There was a thread from Quicken Janean that indicated they were working with Vanguard on this issue which is a result of, you guessed it, a connection change introduced by Vanguard.

I just contacted Vanguard per the information regarding the connection error in the announcement today, "NEW! Errors connecting to Vanguard Accounts or enrolling with new Vanguard connection method".
Vanguard took my information and told me they would get back to me. They would not let me talk to anyone in digital banking or technical support.
Frankly, the Vanguard representative didn't have any information about this problem.
Hopefully, Quicken is actively working Vanguard and not just waiting for Vanguard to "fix" the problem.

I used to be able to download all the transactions from Vanguard … Now after both Quicken update and Vanguard update - the option is the simple just my balance type of connection - no details.
I'm done with quicken. It's been a long ride but lately for the fee, it's nothing but less and less and less and no resolution - quicken blames Barclays, Barclays blames quicken. And now Vanguard.
The whole point of these darn things is to be able to TRACK IN DETAIL - all transactions in each account with the downloads. Doing it manually AND paying for quicken - complete waste of money.
rant over … just had to put this out there.

PS The annoucement was for Quicken Mac users but it seems Quicken Windows users are also affected. Different error code than Quicken Mac bust same description, Quicken cannot connect to Vanguard.

Having the same problem (Error 16503 Server message: HTTP-404 Error from Vanguard) and have sent the report.

I ran into the same issue with error message. But it is possible to change the connection type that Vanguard has instituted without contacting their help desk. I'm using a 2024 iMac M4. The connection method change follows previous method for changes to security by Vanguard. I found the change method under settings for an individual Vanguard account. The only very weird change was the actual button to submit changes. It's hard to tell but maybe only the outline of the actual button is activated by the mouse pointer. At any rate, I did get the changes to take. Other irritant is the loss of previous data listing. There is a control for date range during the redo of the settings which one can set I believe but I didn't try it. One nice result is that updating is very fast in comparison to previous method.

What is the new connection type? Quicken Connect or Direct Connect?

I'm on the phone with Vanguard right now. There doesn't appear to be a "
digital banking department."
The only way I even got to speak to someone was by choosing the option for having issues on the website. The person knows nothing about Quicken, nor do they seem to know who to ask. Not their issue - there simply was no suitable option to pick in the stupid automated phone system.1 -
I first experienced this problem this morning. Let's see how long it takes to get resolved.

Yes, I saw the alert post from Quicken on Vanguard connection issue since 2/20/25 and it said to contact Vanguard which I did and it screwed everything up. First off, there are 2 entries listed for Vanguard, do not choose the 2nd one saying "Vanguard - Personal Investors" because that does not list direct connect as an option. When I used quicken connect instead, it disabled the transactions tab for all my Vanguard accounts.
I had to restore from backup and try again with the first option "Vanguard" and it list both quicken connect and direct connect. When I chose direct connect, it now gives me OFX error: 16503. Neither Vanguard nor Quicken support knows what to do, they just point the finger at each other.

I changed to Quicken Connect today, works fine. My Gain/Loss columns got reset to zero. Hopefully the daily update will solve that problem.
I don't believe Direct Connect is an option any longer.

started happening to me today (2/21/2025).

Unable to download transactions from Vanguard last couple of days. Vanguard is aware of issue and are working on it. They were unable to give a date for resolution.

Same issue Error Code 16503 Server Message: HTTP-404 Error from Vanguard. Intermittent since 2/18

I changed the connection type to Quicken Connect, and it's working "fine" now. The worst part of this change: all of my part transaction details are lost since this connection method doesn't support them. Talk about regression! I need the detail in Quicken. Too many times, I've had to troubleshoot discrepancies and account details have helped me out of a jam. IMO, this is a total failure on Vanguard's part.

Beware, ust changed to Quicken Connect method on my Mac and the connection worked but I lost all my transaction history!

The Cost Basis is missing, hence gains and losses are all zero. This is not good.

So, hopefully you are doing backups each time you use Quicken. I just restored my QData file from this morning and have everything back and of course it shows the Vanguard error. I will wait a few days to see if Quicken and Vanguard can fix this.

I did, and I restored my last backup (and all the attendant reconnections). However, something tells me that the end result is Vanguard is no longer going to support the details we've been used to.

I certainly hope that's not the case!

If worst comes to worst, we can still download our transactions to a qfx file and import them manually. Not as good as automatic, but you could keep the transactions that way.

The question will be how much historical data can we reacquire.
