    fixed for me.

I'm able to download now too. But I don't understand your suggestion about deleting these transactions. I do have a number of "Add Shares" and "Remove Shares" transactions, all of which have the orange "pencil" icon that applies to manually-entered transactions, rather than the blue dot for downloaded. I'm just hesitant to delete them since it just feels like they already net out, so deleting won't matter.

Some of my Vanguard accounts go back to 2019, so deleting the entire Quicken accounts and only being able to add back 18 months of history is a non-starter for me. But would it work to download that 18 months from Vanguard and import that QFX file into a NEW, empty Quicken brokerage account (with a different name), and then drag-and-drop all the older transactions in my existing brokerage account (i.e., everything dated earlier than the oldest transaction from the QFX file) into the new account. In theory this would leave me with just one of every transaction. I'm a little hesitant to try, but I guess that's what backups are for!

I, too, had my Quicken accounts successfully sync with Vanguard. Wahoo!

Still unable to connect this AM. Getting this error detail:

I was not able to set these accounts up for detailed transactions. I may try to Disconnect/Reconnect

UPDATE: Reconnecting with Vanguard (not Vanguard Personal Investors) worked

  • Quicken Windows Subscription Member ✭✭

I have 7 Vanguard accounts. 6 of them are downloading normally. The only one I'm having issues with, and I see a handful of others are having the same issue, is the one account where I deactivated the online connection and attempted to reactivate when we were originally having the download problem. Now that account, which happens to be my only non-IRA account, shows no transactions at all, and displays a "Simple Investing" label. I see no options to display my years of transactions or to change the status. It shows as Direct Connect, just like the rest of the accounts. I'm not sure whether this is a Quicken or a Vanguard issue. I do have an older Quicken backup file that still contains all the transactions, but I don't know if I copy them over that the update will do the same thing and make them disappear again. Any suggestions?

I'm having the same issues as JK AZ. I only have the "Simple Investing" option.

    Thanks,

Quicken Windows users might want to move their discussion over to the Windows thread about Vanguard - your posts here are mostly being seen by Mac users who can't really offer any advice about fixing Windows issues.

Same problem as JK AZ…. but only after I activated (today) one of 6 Vanguard accounts that I deactivated in Quicken when this fiasco occured two weeks ago. The accounts I did not deactivate (all IRA) show the historical transactions as they always have.

Note - the reactivated account, like JK AZs, with the problem is my only non-IRA account also.

Is it a non-IRA account? I only have this problem with the non-IRA

I few months ago, I had trouble with one particular Vanguard account not syncing. Naturally, it was the one with the most activity, so I had to manually enter the missing transactions. This kept on for a month or two, then one day, it started syncing like the other accounts. I am not sure if the fix was on Vanguard's or Quicken's end, but it did solve my problem. I know you want a fix now, but sometimes waiting it out is the easiest course of action.

Even though the heading says RESOLVED it isn't!

I tried the workaround and it does not work well:

Instead of adding a transaction to an existing security,it added the transaction with a duplicate security..

Also need to be careful it you have multiple Vanguard accounts split into separate QUICKEN files.

The QUICKEN program still has the TRANSACTIONS blocked (ie inactive) in the Vanguard account. (I click on it and nothing happens)

    Hello @VicenteC,

Thank you for letting us know you're still encountering an issue. If the transactions tab is greyed out, then you are likely using Simple tracking instead of Detailed tracking. I checked our internal tools, and it also looks like you're using the Vanguard - Personal Investors connection option, which does not give the option for Direct Connect.

To be able to see your transactions, you would need to switch to the Vanguard connection and select Detailed for the investment tracking option. To do this, please backup your Quicken file, deactivate the problem account(s), then reconnect by going to Accounts>Add Account…. Search for Vanguard.

Click the Advanced button and make sure that Direct Connect is selected.

Then, follow the prompts. When you get to the Add/Link screen, please make sure to carefully link your account(s) to the correct name in Quicken.

If the transactions tab is still greyed out after you have switched to Direct Connect, then click on the account to select it and navigate to Accounts>Settings…. On the Details tab, look for Investment Tracking Method and select Detailed.

    I hope this helps!

I'm able to connect to Vanguard Direct Connect via Quicken for Mac for first time in two weeks today. However, Vanguard isn't showing me all five of my Vanguard accounts. I get a list of seven accounts, but only two (Cash Plus and an inherited IRA account) are account numbers that match mine. The other five shown don't match to my three other accounts. I'm calling Vanguard support, but I'm not hopeful. Anyone else seeing this issue?

Now that you mention it, when I connected a new file to Vanguard as a test I ended up with an extra brokerage account that I don't recognize. It was empty so I didn't give it much thought since I have a couple empty accounts there already that I never got around to closing.

Thank you very much Kristina. This worked with an adjustment:

When I added the new account the program added transactions which I had to remove to make it correspond with actual balances but ,with care, I made it work.

Thank you for the follow-up @VicenteC,

I'm glad to hear you were able to get back on Direct Connect so you can view transactions again. Thank you also for including the additional step you needed to take to get everything in balance.

If you need further assistance, please feel free to reach out!

@Quicken Kristina Did you see my comment at 11:43 am today? I'm able to Direct Connect to Vanguard. However, only two of the seven accounts displayed on the Add/Link page are mine. My three other accounts (two personal IRAs and a taxable Brokerage Account) are missing. The five other accounts on the Add/Link page all have account numbers I don't recognize. The Vanguard website works fine, with all five of my accounts displayed with their correct account numbers.

    Hello @Bob@63,

I did see your comment from earlier today. You said you were going to contact Vanguard Support, which is why I did not respond. Were you able to contact them? Are these accounts ones that you don't recognize at all, or is it just unfamiliar account numbers?

    Thank you!

Since the connection issue with Vanguard first started back on February 20th I've been unable to view transactions (greyed out), or use Direct Connect to download detailed transactions.

It appears the new Simplifi connection shifted my download platform such that I am no longer authorized for detailed tracking of investments.

I spoke with Vanguard support yesterday as a follow up to my repair ticket and told the problem is still not resolved.

It would appear that most of my missing transactions have been restored by Vanguard's programming fix. This unfortunate issue is about the 3rd instance over the last few years that seems to crop up when Vanguard does a goof. After some mis-placed grumbling about Quicken things eventually resolve. I did appreciate the pop-up describing what had happened and what was happening to fix the problem. If there's a complaint it's the lack of communication. This time communication was improved but less than perfect. I have taken the tack that some other users tried: chill out, monitor the explanations (eventually) and expect all to be well in a few weeks.

First, there is no Simplifi connection for Quicken Classic. Simplifi is a 100% online Quicken product that is an alternative product to Quicken Classic. The 2 are not compatible with each other at all and you will never see Simplifi in your Quicken Classic installation since it is viewable only in an Internet browser.

Second, I'm assuming you are instead referring to Simple Tracking. Simple Tracking is not a connection method. It is one of two options (the other is Complete Tracking) for how to view investment accounts in Quicken Classic. Simple has a dashboard with no transaction details while Complete has a register with transaction details.

The fact that you are still seeing Simple Tracking (a dashboard view with no transaction details in a register view) tells me you need to review posts by others in this thread saying what needs to be done to get rid of Simple Tracking and restore Complete Tracking.

Problem resolved. Transactions view restored yesterday when I closed and reopened Quicken.

Regarding the doubling of accounts due to duplicate transactions. I know why this is, and it's very irritating. I noticed when I downloaded my transactions to import to Quicken manually, it did the same thing. So I deleted those transactions and created a new csv download so I could look at the file. In the file, the investments had a different description - very short hand, and there were NO symbols. For instance the csv file showed "Inst Index Fund Inst Plus" instead of "Vanguard Institutional Index Fund Institutional Plus Shares", and the symbol VIIIX wasn't in the file at all. So Quicken had no way of linking the transaction to the security in the system. Why they do this, I have no idea. It's stupid. But it does explain why this happened to so many people.

Today, my Quicken account couldn't connect to Vanguard. Hopefully this is a short outage and not a recurrence of the problem that was recently resolved.

  • Member ✭✭✭✭

It must have been a short term problem. Things seem to be working again. Phew!

UPDATE RE VANGUARD INTERFACE WITH QUICKEN MAC: I have a Vanguard account online message dated today (3/20) stating that their interface issue with Quicken is now resolved. I believe my Direct Connect download worked this morning since I have not yet detected any issues with it.
