We Want Your Feedback, Mac Users

One of our product designers is exploring ways to make it clearer when the account register isn’t sorted by date—and how that affects the transaction order. We specifically would like to discuss register sorting and are looking to talk to those who may have this issue, especially if you are newer to using Quicken.

Your feedback could really help us improve the experience for all our users. If you’re open to a short conversation, here’s a link to choose a time that works best for you:  https://calendly.com/quicken-mac-interviews/quicken-mac-userinterviews

Thanks!

The absence the 2 line register is unfathomable to me. I used Quicken for a period of time in the 90s. And then it stopped servicing Macs on the late 90s…. At which point I signed on to an Apple native outlyer from Toronto, that made my life heaven. Banktivity, from IGG in Toronto. I foundt it more robust.

My bank persuaded me to switch to Quicken. Prior to that I had business accounts as well as personal accounts and I could navigate them all beautifully.

Now I am going out of my mind trying to convert my files to something my CPA can work with.

it turns out that the expensive upgrade is a downgrade, and I am thinking of going back . I just have the Quicken Classic premier.. and am going out of my wits! Enlighten me please. SELL me on why I should keep Because your reports with categories and columns etc is not working for my purposes.

I'm curious why. The 2-line display was born out of necessity in the era of small computer screens, but today, most of us use Quicken on much larger monitors. I used the 2-line register in the old Quicken Mac for decades, and I found the 1-line modern look quite jarring when the new Quicken Mac came out in 2014. But after using it for a while, I changed my view, and I now find the 1-line register much better than the old 2-line display. It's easier for the eye to skim up and down a screenful of data with only one field per column. The 1-line display also allows users to hide/show which fields they want to display, change the order, and adjust the width of each column — and this is configurable on each account individually. Now, when I look at my old Quicken Mac or a Quicken Windows register, I find the 2-line display jarring! I understand this can be a personal preference, but I would just say it takes working with the 1-line display for a bit of time to really get used to it if you've been using the 2-line display for many years. So again, I'm curious why you find the different interface to be such a problem.

You haven't really explained why you are at your wit's end. What about categories in reports isn't working for your needs?

… I would just say it takes working with the 1-line display for a bit of time to really get used to it…

    and

… [Quicken] allows users to hide/show which fields they want to display, change the order, and adjust the width of each column — and this is configurable on each account individually.

I agree that these may be true, but… it is a pure falsehood to say,

The 1-line display also allows users to…

And though you may have found that for you,

… after using it for a while, I changed my view, and I now find the 1-line register much better than the old 2-line display. It's easier for the eye to skim up and down a screenful of data with only one field per column.

a 2-line display is not the reason that allows the above-mentioned functionality. Emphasizing the potential benefits of a 1-line display is fine but stop promoting the idea that it is because there is a 1-line display, that this is all possible. This is a blatantly false "causality", and an oversimplification of the issue.

There still has some very practical uses for a 2-line display, as I have outlined multiple times, in spite of possibly having larger monitors, which many people STILL do not have.

I do appreciate some of the practical reasons why a 1-line display has been favoured by Quicken but it is unfortunate that they have not decided to accommodate a 2-line display, but a vote for one is still possible here:

and there are still lots of good and practical reasons for it, as pointed out here:

@smayer97 I was asking @alohadiva their reasons for feeling the lack of a 2-line display was problematic. (I know your views about the register, as you post your dissent to my comments any time the topic comes up. I shared my experiences and opinions and was clear in saying “I understand this can be a personal preference”.)

I do not know if you are being deliberately obtuse, but in your opining, you keep missing the point that you keep claiming a false causality. I'll leave it at that for you to ponder.
