Yes, the Spanish Rice is the main course. I start with Dad's recipe, then add in red lentils, tofu, and whatever vegetables don't run away fast enough.

Turkey is the meal for us.

We get plenty of beef, chicken and pork during the year, but we seldom get turkey so having turkey for Thanksgiving is a special treat.

But as others have said, as long as you can enjoy your meal, who cares WHAT is served.

We will be joining my dad for Thanksgiving this year. Apparently, nobody in our group is looking forward to turkey, but that's too bad because I already have one. LOL So now I will be going to buy a ham as well.

I don't have a lot of mouths to feed, so I portion out the leftover turkey and freeze it. It's very versatile and can be a substitute almost anywhere you would normally use chicken.

This year, I actually have two turkeys. I plan to smoke one and traditionally bake the other. I have never smoked my turkey before, so I am looking forward to that.

Side note, I have two turkeys because the local grocery store offers a free one with a purchase of $100 or more, and I couldn't turn down free meat!

This posting seems more appropriate for a platform like Facebook, vs this Quicken Community.

I do like Pecan Pie, and Cherry Pie.

I might go visit a nephew of mine Thanksgiving. In honor of his Dad (who passed on few years back) thinking about making a large bowl of 'Cow Pot' 😕 "Say what", you might wonder 🤔 His Dad was in Air Force in early-mid 1960's, stationed in Thailand. He was in SAC (Strategic Air Command). They were basically MP's (Military Police). In Thailand his unit primarily guarded ammo dumps, B-52 Bomber's, and or whatever need guarding, etc. Some of the Thailand soldier's he worked (when hunger hit between chow halls} would whip up a quick, LARGE bowl of Cow Pot. Easy to make. Just take Beef, Rice, Garlic, Salt, Peppers (Hot, Medium and Mild), Onions & any other spices you scrounge up, then add Olive Oil, Butter, etc. Slow cook all together in large pot. Serve with hot, slightly browned (or burnt) Garlic Bread 😋 Food do die for, and some did 🤕

Good point John, and written very nicely. More people need to use a similar type of tone in their responses. Thanks…

    Thanks for adding, @Palace

A good friend (who ended up living with me for 13 years) was in SAC. (He did in flight refueling (boomer) on KC-135/KC-10) I learned quickly about always having crisp, clean flags in front of the house! He passed in 2018, but he always reminds me of what I should be thankful for. People in good times tend to complain, but when times are truly rough, they focus on the good to get them through. At that is Thanksgiving.

I had never heard of "Cow Pot", but it appears to be Khao Pad, or Thai Fried Rice. Sounds great-and I am happy people are open to alternative dinner items. Enjoy!

Edit: (I would take Thai fried rice over stuffing.)

@John_in_NC Some could say I wandered too far astray from traditional Thanksgiving fare, with Cow Pot as a Turkey Day dish for the table; and they are correct. So, to make amends, anyone could modify the recipe simply by substituting turkey for beef. Then, VOILA', you have Turkey Pot; not that I expect many takers on that suggestions 😉🤣

Turkey Pot sounds a little too spicy for me, at least for Thanksgiving. Like @BK I'm having turkey tenderloin (without the rub; I didn't brine last year but might consider it this year); along with that also stuffing, green beans, a cranberry relish dish that my grandmother used to make, and pie.

My question has always been … how do you keep it lit?
