Something I often have to remind myself of—and that might be helpful to others too—especially when things aren’t moving as quickly as we’d like:

    • “You don’t have to have everything figured out today. Small steps are still steps forward.”

    Happy New Year, everyone! ✨

An old timer once told me he wakes up every morning and says "If it is to be, it's up to me". I now say that when I need to do something that I don't feel like doing, but needs to be done.

While there are some things which are beyond one's control, a lot of what determines whether a day is good or bad comes down to attitude. Every morning, I tell myself it's going to be a good day and most of the time, it's a self-fulfilling prophesy.

Though not directly related related to the topic, this quote always lifts my spirits:

"Nothing is ever lost by courtesy. It is the cheapest of pleasures, costs nothing, and conveys much."

Yes, attitude is everything. And there is no single word I could offer other than to think positively, and be good natured (and genuine) about it.

The things we worry about the most rarely impact us-it is the unexpected stuff that blindsides us randomly that changes us the most. You can't change those events, so you deal with the future as best you can.

Bad day at work? Problematic coworker? Don't sweat it-tomorrow will be different and the issue bothering you likely will shortly be forgotten about. Go to work with the intent to have fun!

I try to find joy in all my daily chores, be it cleaning the house, grocery shopping, cooking, mowing grass, etc. All this stuff has to be done anyway, so why not enjoy it?

I lost my first wife of 13 years to cancer many years ago. My second wife and I now have 47 years together. When I wake up, I reach out to her and thank God she is still here. About 15 years ago she had a major medical issue that was mis-handled causing her to become a BBKA (bilateral below-knee amputee). But she is not a quitter. She still, at 83 years old, does the laundry, most of the cooking and cleanup, and is a highly-skilled seamstress with a very successful Etsy business using her skills to fill custom orders for which she can barely keep up.

You and your wife are truly blessed. You both are able to look beyond the pains and and harsh realities of the past and see the present and future in helpful and promising ways. Kudos to the both of you!

Every morning when I open my eyes I tell myself, "It's going to be a great day…I woke up!"

And then when my wife gets up I tell her, "It's going to be a wonderful day…I get to spend another one with you!"

Kind of morbid in a way but she's got cancer issues (both unrelated cancers are currently dormant but they can "wake up" at anytime) and I'm old enough with my own health issues where we simply cannot and will not take life for granted anymore. Saying these things, for me, reminds me of that so we don't waste the opportunities that every new day presents to us.
