New categories showing up in old report, and cannot be removed
I'm trying to update an old report that I rarely use. Since last time I've added three new categories, none of which are relevant for the old report. All show up in the report. When I "customize" I find that these categories are not selected. I tried selecting them, viewing the report, and then de-selecting, but they won't go away. This is in a transaction report subtotaled by category. I'm using Quicken Classic Premiere for Windows. Has anyone else seen this? Is there a known solution?

Hello @thompson87,
Thank you for reporting the issue you are running into.
I have some follow-up questions for you:
- How long has this been happening?
- Have you tried running a new report?
- If so, does the same thing happen there?
It sounds like you are familiar with running reports, but here is a Support Article with instructions, just in case.
Looking forward to your response!

I've been using Quicken since the 1980s, so yes I am very familiar with report creation.
I noticed it only recently, but that is not very relevant since this has only happened with old reports that I do not run often. So if the problem started some time ago I would not have noticed. I was able to create a new report without the problem. I have submitted a ticket via the help system.
However, I have noticed in recent months more and more troubles with the category selections in reports not making much sense. I've experienced subcategories appearing as categories or else appearing under the wrong category. And I've had trouble selecting subcategories without including the entire parent category at the same time. In general, report creation has become more problematical over time for these reasons. All of the categories appear correctly in the main category list, or when entering transactions, so I doubt if the problem is with the underlying data. The problems are all related to reports only.
In part because of the ongoing issues I switched back to the old report customization interface, but that does not seem to have helped.

Thank you for following up.
I am glad to hear that you did not run into the same problems with a new report. Sometimes old reports can become corrupted and exhibit strange behaviors. Anytime you see something like this, a good test is running a new report.
As for the other issues you have seen with reports recently, the next time one comes up, let us know. Screenshots of what you see on your end always help, too. If needed, please refer to this Community FAQ for instructions on attaching a screenshot. Alternatively, you can also drag and drop screenshots to your response if you are not given the option to add attachments.
Hope this helps!

The problem is .. if you are using these reports for decades you can't rely on the results: for instance when filing a tax return. You have to look at the results and think that looks about right, or just go back to basics and redo the report. It doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling. Perhaps going forward, internally, the reports should contain a HASH value based on the code. When the report is selected, the HASH should be recreated and compared to the original HASH. If they don't match, a warning should pop up. Then I can sleep at night after submitting my taxes.
Thank you,Fred J.

Hello @FredArthur,
Thank you for sharing your feedback!

Since Quicken does not currently have that functionality built into reports, I recommend creating an Idea Post to request that it be added. For information on creating Idea posts, please review the post linked below:
Thank you!
