    @churchid -

    1. set up a test file and download transactions from some of your accounts? how is the performance?
    2. what are the specs on your computer / laptop? how old is it?

    I've used Quicken since around 2002.

    I've always had problems with it being slow on almost everything; updating a register, switching from one register to another, etc.

    It is no slow only if I have very few entries in my register. So, January I create new "accounts" and start them with the ending balance of the previous year. But getting close to the end of this year, it is really slow again. I think it got slower in the last half of Sept 2024.

    I've looked for other softward that would let me track my accounts in the format of a checkbook register. I could never find one I liked the same. When Intuit first separated Quicken out of itself, Quicken seemed to have a lot more function problems. But, I decided to stay with them and give the sofrware engineers a chance to smooth things out. I was pleased for a long time.

    Recently, it is really slow again. :p

    I have had a similar issues as described in this thread for the past year or so. I have used Quicken since 1996 and my .QDF file is currently 216MB. I did some testing today and found the cause of the slowness, at least for me. On the Quicken Home screen there is a Dashboard. This seems to be the culprit. Launching Quicken on my Win10 PC to the Dashboard takes 54 seconds. However, if you click the gear icon in the upper right it gives you the option to select the Classic View Dashboard. The Classic View gives you the option to select other views such as Account Summary and your custom views (select any view other than Dashboard and you can customize it or add a new view). I used the Account Summary and my custom view for the tests and got similar results. These results vs using Dashboard are summarized below:

    Launch Quicken: using Dashboard 54 seconds, using Account Summary 11 seconds
    Run One Step Update: using Dashboard 4 minutes, using Account Summary 28 seconds
    Enter transaction into register: using Dashboard 38 seconds, using Account Summary <1 second

    As you can see, there is some sort of issue with Dashboard as it results in significant slowness. Try using the Account Summary Home view and see if this resolves the slowness you are experiencing with Quicken. Also, make sure your Edit|Preferences|Startup option is set to Home and NOT Dashboard.

    @Martin5502 I tried but I cannot duplicate any speed improvement by turning Dashboard off. I'm running Win 11 on MS Surface tablet with only 4G RAM. With Dashboard on, performance matches your Dashboard off values. I turned it off and there was no noticeable improvement.
