Why does the Real Time Quotes option in Preferences > Investments turn on randomly

Quicken Windows version R58.14 Build 27.1.58.14

I uncheck the Real Time Quotes option in Preferences > Investments and it will randomly turn itself back on again. Why does it do this?

I was given the response from Quicken Support that this happens after a program update. But I turned it off over the weekend and then this morning (Monday) it was enabled again - no software update occurred.

I never want Real Time Quotes enabled.

    Hello @rcstubbs,

    To assist with this issue, please provide more information. When did you first notice this issue? Which version of Quicken were you using when the issue started? After you turn Real Time Quotes off, about how long do they stay turned off before you notice the feature has become enabled again? Is this happening with any other options under Preferences?

    I look forward to your reply!

    @Quicken Kristina

    I have noticed this issue off and on for a while now but do not remember a specific version that it began occurring. I have not notice this with other Preference settings since I do not have to change those often - just this Real time quotes.

    This morning, after turning off the Preferences > Investments > Real time quotes yesterday (my initial question above), I checked before performing a One Step Update and the Real time quotes checkbox was NOT checked. I then performed the One Step Update and after that completed I accepted some transactions. Then thought to check the Real time quotes setting again before closing the program and it WAS checked automatically.

    This is frustrating because I have to make sure to check it every day before updating.

    This has to be a bug in the application.

    Thank you for your reply,

    I haven't been able to replicate the issue you're seeing. To help track down what is causing it, please see if you can find any pattern to when the setting is turning itself back on (for instance, if it is always turning on after running One Step Update).

    Thank you!

    @Quicken Kristina

    Today I opened Quicken and checked the Preferences > Investments > Real time quotes and it was turned on (by itself). I unchecked the option and clicked Save.

    Then I did the following:

    1. clicked on an individual account and the register opened.
    2. clicked the gear cog icon in the account register and selected Update now, received the confirmation dialog to download transactions and the only account in the dialog was the one I am viewing.
    3. Clicked the Update Not button on the dialog. The account update completed.
    4. Went to Preferences > Investments > Real time quotes and it was check again after the single account update.

    I tried the above on individual accounts for banking, credit cards, each time having to uncheck the Preferences > Investments > Real time quotes option and clicking save. And each update of transactions caused Real time quotes to turn back on.

    Does this have anything to do with the time of day that account updates are being performed. Maybe something in the application turns it on due to the current system time being when the markets would be pre-market/post-market or market open?

    I would suggest you leave the Real time quotes option turned off and randomly check it's setting again over a few days.
