Running Windows Q Classic Deluxe current version w all updates not enrolled in cloud backups. If I cancel my subscription will I still be able to open the program and manage the data for historical reference, ie to view register entries, find when something was purchased. I know I can't update/download data from banks or c-card cos. Can I export a data tile from a participating bank and import it to the Q file?. Will I still have access to the program and file as it was before subscription was cancelled?

Yes, if you cancel your Quicken subscription, you will still be able to access your existing data on your computer. However, you won’t be able to download new transactions from your bank or use online services like bill payments.

Your Quicken software will continue to function for manual entry and historical reference, so you can still view past transactions and reports. The caveat is that you will get banner ads and reminders to resubscribe that take up a portion of your screen.

@gregb4 - another thing to consider is if you ever need to reinstall the Quicken program, you might need to manually update it to the release right before your cancellation or expiration date.

You can get these manual update files here -

To clarify a couple of things:

Can I export a data tile from a participating bank and import it to the Q file?.

No, you will not be able to do this because this is an online service and all online services will cease to function. You will however be able to manually enter the transactions into the account in Quicken.

Regarding the Renew Subscription banners: Note that the only way to remove those banners is to resubscribe.

You can read more about what happens with Quicken Classic functionality if the subscription is allowed to expire at

The caveat is that you will get banner ads and reminders to resubscribe that take up a portion of your screen.

Be aware that this amounts to about 20-25% of your screen on a typical laptop size screen.

Eliminate the large Ad space should a subscription be cancelled! I know that my subscription has expired, and it expired at my choice. I do not need to be reminded! Quicken doesn't tell you they're going to take up about 25% of your screen with this nonsense before you buy. I know I can no longer download transactions online when expired. I knew that before I paid, but not the Ad on the screen. Who should I contact to complain? I feel ripped off.

@Tenacguy The point of that nag screen is to get you to resubscribe, you're not supposed to like it.

It's been there ever since they switched to the subscription model, don't expect it will ever go away. It was the tradeoff for letting people use the app manually without a subscription; originally it was planned to have the app go into read-only mode when your sub ran out, but so many people pushed back against that they came up with the current arrangement.

Note that if you had used the Starter edition it would have been worse, with that edition, if you let it expire the data file becomes read-only.

This is not entirely true anymore. Recently (within the last few months) the Data Access Guarantee Support Article has been updated. It now states that Starter will still be read-only but there will be limited manual functionality for existing accounts (adding/editing transactions), editing existing budgets and editing existing reminders but new accounts, new budgets and new reminders cannot be added.: https://www.quicken.com/support/what-quicken-data-access-guarantee/#section-windows-1

This Support Article does not address the reminder Banners which will remain unless and until the subscription is renewed.

With most subscription softwares the software entirely ceases to function when the subscription expires. Quicken Inc. decided not to be like most other subscription software companies in this regard in that they allow users to continue using the software manually after the subscription has expired.

I've come to think of it as there being 2 levels of subscription: One that we pay for with money that provides full online services functionality and another that we pay for by giving up some screen space for reminder ads that provides manual-only functionality.

It's much like our use of browsers and many commercial websites where our "cost" to be able to use them is that there will be ads taking up some of our screen that we cannot get rid of. The exception being with some sites that will remove the ads if we agree to pay an upgrade subscription fee.

As you stated: Which path we take regarding our use of the software is our choice. But the bottom line is that one way or another we will "pay" something for the right to use Quicken software.

@Tenacguy I understand your frustration if you didn't know what would happen if you let your subscription lapse. Whether we like it or not, this is the policy Quicken has adopted, and they will only change if they determine it is driving away more people than it is getting people to renew to avoid the ads. They put this policy in place 7+ years ago, people complained, but they haven't altered it at all in that time — so I'd say the battle to get Quicken to change this policy was waged and lost a long time ago.
