Quicken for Mac does not have an automatic balance notice of shares being off
I have run Q for Windows for over 30 years and converted to Q for Mac end of September. I did have some major issues on the transfer of data matching. One non-issue in Win I had set up one annuity from not updating in my Morgan Stanley account. Q for Mac was challenging. Q moderator did suggest a possible solution.
My questions
- Q for Win had a nice feature where if my share balance was off from Q compared to my brokerage account. I download manually my transactions from E Trade. One small stock I have direct with employer , added in Quicken account , thus every time there is a dividend on another stock , the error does show up which means Q looks at the brokerage statement . Does Q for Mac have a similar feature ?
- I am considering switching back to Q for Win and buying Parallels to run on Mac. Has anyone converted back to Q Win and did you encounter issues with data transfer?
Thank you

Hello @jjrichards,
Thank you for reaching out! To answer your questions:
- No, Quicken for Mac does not have an equivalent feature. If this is something you'd like to see added to Quicken for Mac in the future, you can create an Idea post to request this functionality be added. For more information on creating Idea posts, please click here.
- Depending on how long you've been using Quicken for Mac, it may be easier to use your old Quicken for Windows file (most financial institutions let you download approximately 90 days of history). If it's been long enough that you'd need to manually fill in a lot of missing data, then please see this article for information on converting back to Quicken for Windows: .
I hope this helps!

Hi Kristina:
Thank you for the response . I do find Q for Win feature that checks your current stock shares vs your brokerage a very valuable feature . The Mac Version of Quicken had errors compared to Quicken for Windows , and in my case significant .
On number two I will be installing Paraells on my Mac , then download Q for Windows . This will be a learning curve

It seems like Quicken Mac has to have some kind of compare after all it will generate placeholders.

Exactly. Quicken Mac does compare holdings to what the financial institution reports; when it finds a discrepancy, it creates a placeholder transaction to correct the balance automatically. Users have complained that Quicken Mac should provide a notice to users rather than silently adjusting with a placeholder. There is at least one Idea post for such notice, although it hasn't received many votes yet:
