Need option to disable the new percent column [Edited]

The column may be useful for someone who can use it. But for me, it is useless. Since you have to tab out of it when you enter an amount and hit Enter or Tab, it wrecks my data entry pattern that I have built since the early 1990s in Quicken. Please fix this. [Removed-Disruptive]

There should be a preference option to turn on or off "show % in register"

In a split transaction, there's a checkbox for "show %". I'm suggesting that option should be controlled in the Preferences/Register Preferences. I have to check the box every time I want to see the %'s. It should be on always or off always. If it's off always, then you should be able to check the box for maybe one transaction.

I agree that inclusion of the percentage column in split category transactions should be optional, especially since IMO I think the majority of users (myself included) will not ever use it.

I also think that the Tag column in splits should be optional for the same reason.

Perhaps this could be accomplished via a drop-down menu with check boxes, similar to the columns selection drop-down menu in the account registers?

I totally agree. I keep screwing up my transactions, then have to backup and retype to fix it. I don't know about anyone else but I am so sick of programmers. They keep changing the looks, the way we have to do things in their software, etc. Then they go and remove useful features. I just wish I could be on Quicken's debugging team because their team (if they even have debuggers) sucks. Sorry for the venting - I've been holding these thoughts in for a long time. There should be a better way to give feedback to Quicken.

The Tag column in Split Transaction dialogs is directly tied to the presence or absence of the Tag column in the account register.

So, if you're not using Tags in this particular account register, remove the Tag column from the register and it will also be gone from the Split dialog.

Being able to totally turn off the new percent column in the Split Transaction dialog would be helpful.
The "Show %" box should always show when starting a new Split dialog. Only when activated, the percent column should appear.

As a workaround, when working with an existing Split dialog from, e.g., a memorized transaction or a reminder, use the ↓ down arrow key to navigate from amount field to amount field. You can also use the Enter key when done entering an updated amount (but do not Tab then Enter)

What's irritating to me is the behavior of the "show %" checkbox. When checked it shows the percentage AND includes the column in the tab workflow. However, when unchecked, the percentage is NOT displayed but is still included in the tab workflow, moving to a spot almost invisible offscreen until the tab key is pressed again.

This update is also completely wrecking my normal usage. I have been a Quicken user since the very first version and have rolled with many program updates and changes over the years. Ones like this that don't give options to turn off are so frustrating. I agree that a "remove column" much like in the register preferences is needed here. Not everyone wants or needs this percentage feature so why force it on everyone? Please Quicken, review and fix!

@julz614 I agree this is an important idea.

Do you use the Tab key when entering split transactions? I think you will find that hitting Tab after entering the amount causes problems if you are creating a zero-dollar transaction. As a workaround until that problem is fixed, try hitting Enter after the amount to move to the next line.

I agree completely. Since there is already a control to "display" the percent column, I'm not sure why it would be so difficult to disable the column why the display option is turned off.

For people who have used Quicken like me from the beginning, coupled with my "muscle memory" of splitting a transaction (which I do for most transactions to capture sales taxes etc.) makes this an added 2-3 navigation steps that I always get wrong very frustrating.

I've been using Quicken since DOS version 2 and while I agree that the % column should not show in split transactions when the "Show %" option is NOT checked, to me it's just a minor niggle. I never even noticed that extra column to the right in the split window, only that I had to hit Enter twice after the Quicken update when at the end of a split line (I selected to use the Enter key to jump to the next field during data entry)—somewhat annoying but no biggie.

An additional problem is that if one of the split amounts is much larger than the others and you hit Tab after the large number, the amount gets changed slightly. See this discussion

Maybe the bug fixes for the Percent Column will resolve many of these issues. I have yet to use the Percent Column, but I can image myself using it on occasion for sure. (Assuming it works correctly). So far, I have just been trapped by the bugs in the Percent Column noted here and elsewhere. I do use a LOT of split transactions.
