@Chris_QPW , @Rocket J Squirrel - happy to pass the information along. I know the Edge "experimental" setting isn't perfect for everything, but I use it almost exclusively in Edge. When I encounter something in Edge that doesn't display as it should, I copy/paste the URL in Chrome or Duck-Duck-Go and check it out there. Or turn it off in Edge, but that requires an Edge restart and I'm usually too impatient to do that :-).
I'm an old dude, so way back in the way-back we only had comparatively small monitors, so white space wasn't a big deal on the old eyeballs. I've been using a 27" monitor for years now and all that glaring white space is blinding anymore, so any help I can get is a good thing, particularly in the early morning hours when my eyes are more sensitive to light.
Looking forward to Quicken's address of whitespace. I know it isn't easy with legacy code (I'm a retired programmer and worked on products that offered different color schemes. It's not as easy as many think with a codebase that's ~30 years old.
Anyway, I digress. Cheers!

@Dave508 I go back far enough to remember terminals with white text (actually even punch cards for a bit), and the big studies that proved that was a bad combination and switching to amber (the best color) or green. And then "Windows" came out and all of that good research went out of the window. Well sort of, as a programmer myself I like all other programmers had editors meant for us and they always had "dark mode". So, while programming I never was looking at a pure white screen like everything was until all of a sudden, the world woke up to the fact that "dark mode" was a good thing. Only took them a 25 or 30 years!

+1 on Dark theme ASAP.
Im a dev, ALL my uis are dark mode by default. Here is a hint @ Quicken management:
If your devs say they cant make a dark theme, too complicated, too expensive, too long, they are not good devs, get new devs.
Lack of dark theme reeks of incompetence.Dark mode shouldn't take more then a couple sprints including testing.
This should have been done years ago.
PS: I can already see Mods, arrogant 5 star forum trolls or angry devs going on the offensive on my post.
Don't care, I am right.-1 -
@MattBB do you have any idea how many different GUI APIs are being used in Quicken Windows?
The "Web" ones for the tax planner, Lifetime planner, and most of the business form for instance, are pre-2000. From back when Bill Gates was declaring "Desktop is the web".
If you don't deal with 30+ year old code bases, then you have no idea what you are talking about.

I agree. I'm 66 and working with the white background is difficult!

Coming from most of my online services in dark mode into Quicken desktop is soooo hard on the eye, especially since I only have time to work there in the evening, during quiet time…

Please do make sure that you're working in a well lit environment, not in a dark room. Screen glare is reduced when your eyes are adapted to a room which is well lit.

Yes, Dark Mode is not rocket science. Please get your development team on this!!

These threads go back four years, and still nothing, but futile as it seems, I'm shouting for DARK MODE!!!!!

Mods/Admins - if we could at least get some update on the dark mode enhancement - like if it's never going to happen or will happen 3rd Q 2024 or whatever the status is, that would be something anyway. I just got a 12.5% increase in the annual subscription for Quicken and I'm willing to pay it, but at the same time, some of these other enhancements that are being introduced throughout the year are of no use to me, such as downloading unsettled transactions or auto-memorizing transactions. Dark mode would be helpful if it is implemented properly.
That said, it is understandable that there could be a significant challenge in implementing something like Dark Mode in a legacy code base that's over 30 years old, so while Dark Mode would be nice on my old eyes, it's not worth it at the sacrifice of introducing any bugs or integrity issues (in my opinion).

Here are some instructions from Gemeni AI. I tried them for windows, and the invert command worked on quicken, but also inverted all my dark web pages. When you are done working on quicken, invert back.Quicken offers a Dark Mode for a more comfortable viewing experience. Here’s how you can enable it:
Quicken for Mac:
Open Quicken Preferences.
Go to the General tab.
Check the “Early Access” box to enable Quicken support for Dark Mode1.
Quicken Simplifi (Mobile App):
Hover over the panel on the left-hand side and select Settings.
In the General tab, navigate to the Appearance section.
Choose either Light or Dark, depending on your preference2.
Quicken for Windows (Workaround):
Start in normal (not dark) mode.
Press the Windows logo key and the = key to open Magnifier.
Press Ctrl+Alt+I to invert colors.
Press the Windows logo key and the - key several times to reduce the magnification to normal size.
If Quicken is not already open, launch it using its now-inverted icon3.
Feel free to explore the Dark Mode option that suits your needs1 -
When are you going to add a dark mode in Quicken. I have Glaucoma and early stage AMD, and the bright white screen hurts my eyes! I may have to switch to another program.

Quicken for Mac:
Open Quicken Preferences.
Go to the General tab.
Check the “Early Access” box to enable Quicken support for Dark Mode1.This information for Quicken Mac is completely incorrect. Quicken Mac has had full support for Dark Mode for two years now. Appearance — which can be set to "Light", "Dark", or "Use System Appearance" — is the very first preference in Settings > General.
(I know this is a Quicken Windows thread, but I wanted to correct the misinformation about Quicken Mac from some AI bot.)

I've been a Quicken user for almost 20 years, and a dark mode is becoming a necessity for me to comfortably use the program. This is another vote for implementation of a dark mode for Quicken Deluxe.

@Thomas Hyzy Those instructions posted earlier by @Alibu and @jacobs do provide a workaround in a pinch. Like you I've been using Quicken over 20 years and, particularly with larger screens today, I find the whitespace blinding.
For Windows, (I don' t have access to a mac book), I was considering creating a script of some type (Powershell, DOS Batch File, VBA script) that would execute the instructions to start the magnifier app, send the key sequence to invert the colors, then start Quicken. After exiting Quicken, the script would reset the colors back to normal (I typically start Quicken, do what I need to do, then exit it, as opposed to leaving it started and doing other stuff on the PC).
Anyway, just a thought to make it easier to simulate the dark screen attributes until the folks at Quicken address it.
Cheers!

To the Quicken admins/reps - could you provide an update on Quicken dark mode please? Is it in the enhancement queue or is it off the table altogether?

Dark Mode is a Windows 11 option both for Windows itself and all the apps. All my apps have dark mode — except Quicken. This is most unfortunate. You don’t want to lag behind everybody else in giving you customers the Dark Mode option. Many of us prefer Dark Mode because it is easier on our eyes and makes using our computers more fun.

I would like to have dark mode for quicken in windows 11. This is the only app on my computer that doesn't have it.

Another Quicken user since the DOS days in the 80s. However, it may be coming to an end soon if no dark mode is introduced.

Dark Mode for Quicken for Windows. Yes. Please.

Ditto all the dark mode for Windows Quicken votes. The work around provided by @Alibu makes Quicken much easier to look at. However, I work back and forth between Quicken and other apps entering data, so my eyes are getting stabbed by the brightness either way.
