Portfolio X-Ray not recognizing ETF stock funds

It used to work correctly until a few days ago, maybe a week. Now it categorizes VTI, VOO and VIG as "Not Classified". Stock Intersection is now empty. Please fix this. See attached image.

Yes, there does appear to be a problem with X-Ray. Mine is worse than yours and I needed to Refresh X-Ray, then select all Securities and then select All Accounts (which afterward shows "Custom…" for both) and got the following picture. Then when I looked at Stock Intersection I noticed that most of the securities I hold are not listed.:

If you want Quicken to investigate and fix this please report it to Quicken via Help > Report a problem. That is the best way to make sure they are aware of this issue. They will need to determine if this is a Quicken cause or if it is a Morningstar cause.

I have already reported this issue. The more people who report it the higher the priority will become for the Quicken Team to address it so please do report it.

I see this same problem. This renders the basic asset allocation and stock intersection functions of the X-Ray basically useless.

In addition, none of the other recently introduced problems with the X-Ray that have been reported in the past several months have been addressed.

Confirming the problem as well. It was working in mid-Dec.

For me too. I tried playing with settings such as all and custom BUT can't get it to see the ETF holdings.

    Looking back at old versions:

It still works fine in old version B75.20 but broken in R65.29

Same issue for me that just began a few days ago. My Vanguard ETFs are not being classified by Portfolio X-Ray.

Same issue for me; occurring after a portfolio refresh. I also reported the problem and sent a screenshot. I hope this is fixed quickly…it is useless as it is.

Quicken, please disable this function completely until it's corrected. Portfolio X-Ray is not recognizing any Vanguard ETF's, which is a substantial part of my (any many people's) portfolio.

In its current state, the tool produces an inaccurate analysis, which is far worse than having no analysis at all.

I noticed the same problem with my S&P ETF's. By not recognizing these ETFs, the Stock Intersection is wrong and useless.

I spent hours on the phone with Quicken support on this issue (signing in and out, validating file, and lots and lots of waiting while the issue was supposedly "escalated").

On 1/14, I was told that Quicken was closing my ticket because Morningstar had removed this functionality. Not really sure what to believe at this point. Quicken website continues to say: "Like Premier, Classic Business & Personal lets you evaluate individual holdings in ETFs and mutual funds with Morningstar's® Portfolio X-ray® tool*…" [note refers to Windows only]

"On 1/14, I was told that Quicken was closing my ticket because Morningstar had removed this functionality."

Looking forward to Quicken reducing the annual subscription (strike one) if this is true.

It's embarrassing that Quicken's support is so poorly trained that they made you go through all that file TS [Edited - Language] before you found out that they dropped Morningstar functionality. If this proves accurate, it's strike two for this user that's been onboard since DOS.

If the comment by @Langston Holland that Morningstar has removed Portfolio X-Ray functionality to properly classify ETFs for asset allocation is indeed true then Quicken needs to disable that menu option as it’s worthless.

@Quicken Kristina can you verify and provide and update please on this ticket?

  • djslibra

Quicken confirmed to me, this morning (1/22), that Morningstar had removed this functionality and it would not be restored. I was told, quite absurdly, that no refund would be provided because I was not requesting the refund within 30 days of starting my subscription.

Interestingly, the Quicken FAQ page continues to falsely claim that "Classic Business & Personal lets you evaluate individual holdings in ETFs and mutual funds with Morningstar's® Portfolio X-ray® tool*."

It seems unlikely that Morningstar removed the functionality for ETF’s, but left it in for mutual funds. The Morningstar website still provides a full analysis for both ETF’s and mutual funds.

More likely, the Quicken interface is, for whatever reason, not picking up ETF data. Unless and until this is fixed, Quicken should disable the X-Ray function.

"It seems unlikely that Morningstar removed the functionality for ETF’s, but left it in for mutual funds."

I just added a mutual fund to test this. Fred is right, the X-Ray feature still works - it's just an ETF bug. Asset composition of ETF's still report properly in every other area of Quicken.

Interesting that Quicken's phone support is blaming Morningstar.
